Sears: You’ll Know By the End of This Week Where We’re Going to Be
Monday, 2nd Mar 2020 10:13

Striker Freddie Sears believes the Blues are going into their biggest week of the campaign as they face season-defining home games against Fleetwood Town and leaders Coventry City.

Town are ninth, five points off the play-offs and 10 from the top two, having lost five of their last seven with a season which once held so much promise looking increasingly likely to end in major disappointment.

Sears believes the next two matches will be crucial as the Blues look to revive their promotion push.

“Massive, I think this week’s the biggest week. You’ll know by the end of this week where we’re going to be," he said.

“I know there are a lot of games left and a lot of points left but we’ve got to start winning games.”

The striker, who scored his first goal of the season on his first league start of the season at Blackpool on Saturday following his lengthy absence due to cruciate ligament injury, says Tuesday’s game against Fleetwood, who are eighth, three points ahead of the Blues with two games in hand, is a very significant fixture as both clubs chase a play-off place.

“Yes, a really big game,” Sears added. “One we believe we can win, obviously it’s at home. But enough talking now, we’ve got to start doing it on the pitch.

“Everyone can say what we want to do and what we’re not going to do but if you don’t deliver on the pitch then it’s a waste of time.”

Does the former West Ham and Colchester man believe the squad can handle the pressure? “Hopefully. We’re playing for Ipswich Town, if you can’t cope with that then you shouldn’t be playing here.”

Reflecting on his own fitness, Sears is confident he’ll be fine to make two starts in four days.

“Hopefully, we’ll see how the body is tomorrow and Tuesday,” he said. “I’ll leave that to the manager, I’m ready to play every game now, whether that’s Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Tuesday we’ll go from there.”

..... where are the likes of :- Phillips,Jefferson,Baxter,Mowbray,Holland,Hunter,Butcher, Beattie .... ??? to name but a few of a totally different breed. All these players would, and many have, sweat blood for this Club in the past.
Do we have ANY of this calibre these days ? - the only one who comes anywhere near these guys is Chambers, and I wouldn't place him in the same category as the aforementioned - maybe somewhat unkindly in some eyes.
Is this a part legacy of always seemingly having too many ‘loan players' and not enough of our own ? - personally I think that is part of the problem.

I like Freddie and feel sorry for him that its his turn to be put forward to try and defend the indefensible. Having said that, and reading between the lines, he doesn't seem overly impressed with what is going on either!.

We need a huge turnaround in form to even get a sniff at the play-offs now and I just don't see it.

It will be really interesting to see what Evans does if there is not a step change in the performances in the next two games...two draws might temporarily keep Lambert employed...anything less then surely he has to be accountable ....but the players simply cannot be excused either...this is a good, big squad that is woefully under achieving. Lambert cannot have any hiding places .....the only thing that may stay Evans hand is the lack of a suitable replacement....one that is sustainable and has a blueprint that can take Town up and survive in the championship..be that this this season or next.

We,re playing for Ipswich Town, if you can,t cope with that you shouldn't,t be playing here! Exactly Freddie, maybe the rest of the squad should realise that. How about having that quote on a very big sign in the changing room. Seems to me from that article that Freddie is as p!$$ed off as us fans are. How about making him captain, he would certainly lead by example unlike the over-rated tw@t we have as capt. at present.

Sorry even if we pick up 4 points over the next two games we have been so inconsistent since October that it stretches credibility to believe we will see a run of performances that leave us finishing in the top 6.

Time to prepare for another season in Div 1 with a new manager.

We keep getting these sound bites from the Manager and Players but no delivery.

I'm sorry but Freddie could have started on saturday when he failed to finish a one on one with the Keeper and they broke away and scored.
3 points lost.

These guys need to deliver for the rest of the season, but sadly I'm not sure they are good enough....time will tell?

I like Freddy and cant fault his efforts. But its pretty much all has been said. I have always taken one game at a time. But when you are barely ticking over the points tally.....you start to look further down the line. We need a minimum of 6/7 wins from 10 games as 70+ points is the requirement for the playoffs. I will always hope we can magically turn it around.....but realistically its not going to happen.

When will the fans take a stand? Its not acceptable the way the owner has overseen our demise. The way he refused to invest in a couple of transfers in January that could have given us that extra cover/nudge over the line. Giving a manager a 5 year deal when he is in the midst of a winless streak.....who on earth does that.......?!?! The way he is using this club.....and yes, the fans can do something about it. Without fans, without their goodwill , the money spent on tickets, paraphernalia, food and beverages etc the deficit will leave the owner with a sizeable weekly headache. He hasnt shaped up so he needs to ship out. Any owner outside of the top 4/5 premiership teams who believes they are going to make a fast buck from a football club....is an idiot. So, either Evans is an idiot or he is using it for nefarious activities.

Mccarthy did brilliantly with his limited budget and was astute in the market....but the football was dreadful and the relationship with fans toxic. The new manager has brought the fans back with rapport. Brought in legendary faces. Helped to smarten the club up. But is tactically inept, his squad rotation, our slide down the leagues under his leadership.....his win ratio! You see, ultimately, its about winning games......i wanted Mccarthy out......but at least he won games in the championship.

Get rid of the dead wood. There are certain players in the team who have been with us for a number of years. During this time, we have failed to beat Norwich, been humiliated on several occasions, dropped down the leagues and seen some woeful football.

We as fans turn up in our thousands. But the number of season ticket holders will decrease next season. If Lambert is still here what will change? Woolfy, Garbutt, Downes will all be gone, SKuse and Chambers should retire. Evans will have less income and so will provide even less transfers......so what do we do......pray that the inexperienced kids(as gifted as a few may be) can dig us out of this hole

Does anyone truly believe we can beat Fleetwood, Coventry and then win a further 5 games?

Apologies, Im just ranting and waffling now. But somehow, the rot has got to stop

Let's say 67 points to make playoffs, thats 15 pts in 10 games, mathematically very possible but footballing wise seems unlikely, unless someone can start scoring and people stop letting balls bounce in front of them around the box
