Simpson Signs First Pro Deal
Monday, 2nd Mar 2020 17:30

Striker Tyreece Simpson has signed his first professional deal with the club, a contract which runs to the summer of 2022 with the club having an option for a further year.

The 18-year-old made his first league appearance as a sub at Blackpool on Saturday, having made his senior bow from the bench in the Leasing.com Trophy game against Tottenham’s U21s in September.

"I'm delighted for me and my family,” Simpson told iFollow Ipswich. “I’ve got to keep pushing forward from here.

"I want to stick around the first-team and get as many minutes as possible before the end of the season.”

Stowmarket-based Simpson joined the Town academy as a scholar in the summer of 2018 after a trial having also spent time with Manchester City.

The striker was also a talented schoolboy rugby player - he was part of the Norfolk-based Langley School side that won the U18 Schools Vase at Twickenham in 2018 - and came close to signing for the Leicester Tigers academy prior to his recruitment by the Blues’ youth set-up.

I'd be playing him and Dobra from the start tomorrow night. We need a “ no fear” approach.

That's good.

He had a very impressive few minutes at Blackpool.

Nice to read something positive about the future, hopefully more youngsters being given longer contracts to come. Can't keep getting mugged off by the big boys for compensation that never comes!

Play him from start. Can't do any worse.

This is promising. No fear and an opportunity tomorrow Paul for him to start with at least 45 minutes. There is no point in bringing him on with five minutes to go. The likes of Terry Butcher and many others were blooded in their late teens. No fear. Whats the problem?

At last a young prospect with physical presence .Seen him play regularly for u23s he's been a bit inconsistent but he's got what the first team desperately need a big unit upfront . Like with all young players it's important not to rush their career .People will say what about Terry Butcher, Keiron Dyer etc but these were exceptional players .

With Jackson and Norwood out I would start with Sears and Simpson as the front pairing with Keane in behind them in place of Judge and make changes shortly after half-time if necessary. If we do not win this one then we have major problems ........ coyb.....

Such an athletic build for such a young player, well worth a start? He has been used to achieving as a young rugby player, now for him to it with the round ball. Simpson and Sears up top, Keane in the number 10 position?

Looked a handful on Saturday i wouldn't want him running full tilt at me so i hope he can unsettle a few defences, have a successful career young man

Yes Harling. I think Keane is best suited to that as he is good at holding the ball up and finding a pass and if he is the best placed taking a shot himself.... I just hope tonight that Mr Sideways-Backwards is under strict instructions to play it forward ......... if we cannot beat Fleetwood (who also have 2 games in hand over us) then forget the play-offs ..... coyb

I hope mr sideways-backwards is nowhere near the x1 he plays(like his mate we're to good for this) in his own dream world

Be great if he's as effective as Dalian Atkinson was when he broke through

Who are these better higher scoring youngsters probably under tens.Every body raves about Morris but he's hardly setting the world alight in the u23s and couldn't get in the Forrest Green side when on loan. The one thing Simpson has got that our other strikers haven't is physical presence. Nearly all of our youngsters are just too small or not good enough and like the first team get out muscled. Keiron Dyer was very small but was light years ahead of our current youngsters his pace could get him out of trouble, and if it hadn't been for injuries would have played many times for England.

He could be our Akinfenwa next season: proven to be a highly effective type of player. He was an absolute menace at Blackpool for the time he featured. Bright futures for him, Dobra and El Miz (if he returns from injury unscathed).

Strong and quick at Blackpool. Gives us a different option up front. Well worth 20-30 minutes to batter a tiring defence.

Titus Bramble reincarnated! Great to see a player like Simpson with serious potential coming through. Next season he could be a real unknown quantity in L1 and rip it up. He certainly needs to be given at least 30 minutes tonight but Lambert always appears paralysed when it comes to making substitutions aka plan b.
