Warnock Linked Again But No Contact With Town
Wednesday, 4th Mar 2020 15:03

Neil Warnock is again being linked with the Town manager's job with the Blues claimed to be close to ending current boss Paul Lambert’s time in charge, however, we understand that as yet there has been no contact between the club and the veteran boss.

According to various reports, owner Marcus Evans’s patience is running out following last night’s 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood with Warnock said to be the man being lined up to take over, as was also speculated at the weekend.

However, TWTD understands there have so far been no talks between Town and Warnock despite the former Cardiff City and Sheffield United boss knowing Evans well.

Rumours that Warnock, who has previously said he plans to retire this summer, would be a target should the Blues look for a new boss previously circulated just after Christmas prior to Lambert signing a four-year extension to his contract, which runs to 2025, on New Year’s Day.

Warnock has been spoken to about taking over at Town in the past, most notably after Roy Keane’s departure in 2012, and we understand is interested in the role should it become available.

Quizzed on the links with Town job in December, he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT: “I think I get linked to everything, all managers do, don’t they? I think that’s how it is at the minute, they’re all talk and everything and you just don’t know.

“But, like I say, if the right thing comes up, I’m not really bothered what it is, I just want to enjoy myself to the end of the season really.”

While Lambert's contract, signed only two months ago, has five years left to run, break clauses were included in the deal, one of which states that the Blues boss would receive a greatly reduced settlement if he were to be fired at the end of the season with Town having failed to make the top six.

Forget Lamberts contract. Whatever your opinion of Evan's he is an incredibly astute and successful business man. IF he had his fingers burned with Hurst he would not allow a second such situation in such a short space of time. My money says Lambert himself suggested rolling out a 5 year contract simply as more of his PR. Performance related clauses are written into contracts in so many businesses, football is certainly no exception. ITFCsince73, £3m would have guaranteed promotion? That buys 2 Kayden Jacksons in today's market.

Wychyblue ....... absolutely spot on post. Totally agree with you.
What is embarrassing is our supporters who continuously winge, and winge again, about lack of investment by Evans, when all the Clubs you mention are all capable of, and DO, pick up gems of players for peanuts from lower levels as you rightly say - and are all beating us on all fronts, with much less gates too. Such players ARE out there - FACT.
Stop the wingeing - and expect more from an extremely well paid Manager, instead of demanding an open cheque book from Evans.

Given results against lower league teams in the Cups for the past 15 years, I was pleasantly surprised by our good start. Teams have now sussed us out and play a basic game knowing we will make a mistake and be punished for it. The more it has happened the more the losing mentality from last season and acceptance of it has become the norm. Lambert has tried to do a good job in re-engaging the fans and getting them behind the team but lack of investment apart from signing Norwood and our right back in the summer and January hasn't really addressed our frailties at the back. We needed a good solid Centre back to go with Woolf and a proper left back. Watching town regularly since 81 we have always played a better brand of football when we had attacking full backs. Injuries and suspensions have robbed us of some of our creative players and then Andre is thrown in and expected to hit the ground running. Poor lad!
My gut feel is that something happened in the dressing room around the time of the Norwood car window incident as things are definitely not right and that is being reflected on the pitch in both performances and results.

A lot of us were drawn in under the new dawn by Evans and Lambert of "Get behind Us" during the summer, season ticket discounts, incentives and the odd free beer to get everyone on board. Sadly our blip was at the start of the season and we have now returned to factory settings. Lambert a man know as a "man motivator" from ex-players seems completely at a loss on how to get us out of the rut. If the atmosphere was toxic on Tuesday it will get worse game by game until the end of the season unless changes are made. I am no fan of Warnock but wasn't a fan of Royle until years later and now appreciate the quality of football played on a real shoestring. If Joe had been given money like Keane, Jewell and Magilton we might be more stable now. We wait and we wonder, I think a change of manager is imminent just hope the new appointment gets the right backing from ME rather than false promises due to "instalment structuring" which we have been plagued with in the last 2 years.

it's too late for this season, we need 8 wins in 9 games to have a realistic shout of the playoffs.

with the current squad/injuries/suspensions, that's not going to happen, even if we got klopp in!

save the money and get a proper manager in the summer

If this is to be taken seriously,it would be an indication that Evans realises he has to act but it will not solve the problem of a lack of investment. Evans must know that languishing in this league will be a financial disaster. If Lambert is to go, and I'm not convinced that Warnock would do any better, Evans must get out his cheque book beyond paying the debt. Warnock may ruffle a few feathers but my gut feeling is that Lambert is liked so who goes and who stays is far from certain. It's mess but changing the deck chairs around in this crisis is not a solution. Warnock with Butcher or Burley or Mills may be. If I were Evans, I would certainly consider that as it would answer some of the critics but not all. Chris Houghton perhaps ? So sad we are in this mess that nobody truly understands why. We think we do but it really is a bit of everything.

If I was Evans I'd walk away from this Club, due to the inheritant wingeing fraternity - who know no better than to be experts at spending Evans money.
At this moment in time - NO Evans = NO Club you fools.

Eventually you'll get what you deserve - when Evans decides he's had enough....... !!!
And that may NOT be time to Party ... !!!

Get it done, persuade him to do this and next season, get us up and then actually have a succession plan in place for a handover in the Championship. It would be a shock though if Evans actually pays off Lambert and hires who I consider a proper manager. He's not hired many of them in 11 years!

Terry Butcher is a club legend. But for those advocating him as a Temporary Manager you might want to consider his managerial record.

Dirtydingusmcgee. If he was trying to kill the club, all hed have to do is simply get up and walk away from the club, then recall the loan, and thatd be it for itfc. Instead hes putting in£7m every year. Does he need to sell. Absolutely, but to say hes trying to kill the club is ridiculous.

Portmanterrorist. Why not read the whole story before commenting? It clearly states there are break clauses in his contract which mean we wouldnt have to pay up the 5years. As for butcher/burley? Uve got to be joking. Both been failures wherever theyve been, other than here for burley( until 2nd season in pl), and inverness for Butcher. And as a pairing took scotland from the top 10 in the world down to 42nd in little more than a year. Why these 2 names keep coming up I'll never know.

I say let's roll the dice and bring Warnock in -

9 games left - 6 at home

Sadly, Lambert has run out of ideas -

So, Lambert will be given until the end of the season then as it will cost Evans less to get rid. Then with Warnock retiring he won't be joining for next season, so there seems little point.

This season is over, so Warnock joining for eight or nine games is fairly pointless.

Evans will hopefully be seeking Lamberts replacement now for the late Spring. Assuming Evans can get rid for less when it's mathematically impossible to reach the play offs it would be advantageous for the new man to oversee the final couple of games.

No no no..never Warnock.Keep going with Lambert as the season is a busted flush. If our great president really must get thru another manager, then bring back Burley with Butcher but I would go with Lambert till season's end.

Warnock for me, no brainer.

Anyone tell me why Warnock is not managing a club at the minute? Maybe not such a great idea

Oldozblue - I'm up for Butcher coming in and his managerial record is irrelevant. It's highly unlikely we'll go up or down so the important matter is keeping the fans happy. PR has a good place to be this season despite results. If Lambert stays it's gonna go tits again.
I'd imagine Lamberts contract (like Mick's) can only be activated when there's nothing to play for.

Lambert out.....and someone who has tactical knowledge and can recognise when the game plan has gone to pot or can counter the oppositions change of tactics.

Blues 1. Oh yes if the story says that, it must be fact then.
Saxon. Not sure your talking about the same Evans as the ITFC owner?
You make him sound he does no wrong. Always takes the correct route....
And yes Saxon a bit of investment in the squad in January would have made all the difference.
But we've been there before with our owner who does no wrong.
Along comes January, the squad needs tweaking, but our amazing owner spends the month with his fingers in his ears humming. Yes he's great that Evans....when's the season tickets out for renewal??
LOL.

Blues1 , if not trying to kill the club he is doing so by taking on more than he could handle,he has no idea when it comes to football today, we have only been going in one direction since he took over .You have your view i have mine .

Blueboy1981, you are obviously happy with Lambert and Evans, feel free to follow them down. People moan about the fans being toxic ,! they have every right to be ,they bought into all the spiel at the end of a disastrous season , have actually INCREASED the numbers in attendance, been vocal in support ,travelled and made themselves heard no matter what, The fans have done more than their share, FOR WHAT, A CLUELESS OWNER,A MANAGER THAT CANT MOTIVATE OR PICK A TEAM ,and continuing decline of the club. .
