Warnock Linked Again But No Contact With Town
Wednesday, 4th Mar 2020 15:03

Neil Warnock is again being linked with the Town manager's job with the Blues claimed to be close to ending current boss Paul Lambert’s time in charge, however, we understand that as yet there has been no contact between the club and the veteran boss.

According to various reports, owner Marcus Evans’s patience is running out following last night’s 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood with Warnock said to be the man being lined up to take over, as was also speculated at the weekend.

However, TWTD understands there have so far been no talks between Town and Warnock despite the former Cardiff City and Sheffield United boss knowing Evans well.

Rumours that Warnock, who has previously said he plans to retire this summer, would be a target should the Blues look for a new boss previously circulated just after Christmas prior to Lambert signing a four-year extension to his contract, which runs to 2025, on New Year’s Day.

Warnock has been spoken to about taking over at Town in the past, most notably after Roy Keane’s departure in 2012, and we understand is interested in the role should it become available.

Quizzed on the links with Town job in December, he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT: “I think I get linked to everything, all managers do, don’t they? I think that’s how it is at the minute, they’re all talk and everything and you just don’t know.

“But, like I say, if the right thing comes up, I’m not really bothered what it is, I just want to enjoy myself to the end of the season really.”

While Lambert's contract, signed only two months ago, has five years left to run, break clauses were included in the deal, one of which states that the Blues boss would receive a greatly reduced settlement if he were to be fired at the end of the season with Town having failed to make the top six.

Last summer Lambo had to go sulking to the press for Evans to come up with 500k for KVY.
Yes Saxon we could have had 4 KVY,s in January.
Poor Lambo has had the least backing, of any Town manager, probably ever.
The current ITFC issue is, the owner failed to back the manager in January with funds, now going to cost the same amount of funds to sack Lambo.
Has someone been making a film of ITFC goings on over past 10 plus years??

Oh well....another chunk of money down the swanny. If Lambos sacked.
All money that could have improved the squad, it's all what was needed.
Our owner has seriously lost the plot.

If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. Lambo has/had a squad half full of peanut eaters.
He inherited a toxic club, with toxic players.
And was doomed from the start with Evans as owner.
Evans giving Lambo false promises, just like he does to his customers.
A sad day weather Lambo goes or not.
It's fast turning into a circus at ITFC.

I know we want to put loads of blame on Marcus Evans and his dubious oppo. a little pointless as a lot of you thought it would work with Paul Lambert. We are the most embarrassing professional football club in Europe

We have been that for about 4 yrs Runningout.
I certainly thought Lambo was the one.
But as season progresses, you begin to see the impossible can be done ie getting the club back together. But miracles take a little longer.
What manager would want our job, and he won't have owner backing in any situation.
It's a guaranteed sacking on your cv, if you manage ITFC.

Reading the posts on here and you wonder if we are from the same planet, let alone supporters of the same football club?

Hurst was set up to fail, no investment unless we sold.

So we let go a proven Goalscorer in the Championship in Waghorn and a defender who thought Bristol City were a more ambitious club than Ipswich. In fairness McGoldrick also probably needed to move on and whilst he has done well at Sheffield, he has found the Priemership a little above his talents. And even though Garner used to frustrate me so much with his antics and cheating he was more than capable of clocking up double figures.

Callum Connolly who did a good job in a holding midfield job scored half a dozen goals, more than Cole Skuse scored from that position in over ten years. Incidentally if we lost Downes I would go and try and get Connolly.

Celina went to Swansea for £3 million after loan finished here.

To let 40 odd goals from Championship quality players go and replace with a Div 1 & Div 2 striker and a Div 1 winger, diluted the quality of the squad. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to see what an enormous gamble that was.

PL was left with these contracts to run off or in Harrison's case do a deal to get rid of.

Lawrence, Fraser, Williams, Celina were all players of good quality at Championship level who could run at the opposition and carry the ball forward. Even then this only kept us just competitive at Champonship level.

Doig tried to sort a few out and failed.

Warnock has retired before so will have no interest in a very short term contract and would probably want next season as well. A very pragmatic manager who plays economical football but in a sense we need a team that has more physicality to get out of this league. Just the attitude of young Simpson last night in terms of letting the defenders know he wasn't having any of it from them and prepared to make his presence well known.

Having said all that I would have serious reservations in bringing in Warnock, not that I don't admire his record I just think it is too much of a step back into the Mick McCarthy direction and our young talent will go on hold for a season.

We need to trim the squad and get some more experienced signings in, we can't just buy off players and need to let some contracts naturally expire and in some cases not take up extensions.

To be fair to Lambert he has signed KVY, recruited Garbutt, given a short contract to Wilson who has done a very simple job for the team and performed adequately.

In theory Judge was a good signing, in practice he has been an absolute failure. I wouldn't blame Lambert.

The jury is out for me on Holy and Keane.

Norris is not as good as Gherkin, so I would have kept him on the books.

I think PL will learn from his mistakes in trying to keep a large squad happy.

He needs another couple of transfer windows to sort out the playing staff:-

Skuse, Edwards, Keane, Rowe would not have their contracts renewed in my book this summer.

I am not a Skuse critic but I just think it's time he moved on.

I would try and move on Nsiala and possibly Donacien, Nolan, Judge,

I think we may get another season out of Woolfie but certain that a West Ham will make a move for Downes with an offer we couldn't refuse.

Chambers is a good club captain but would be on the bench at the expense of signing a new Centre back.

A new experienced spine of the team needs to be recruited without a poor sickness record. E.g another goalkeeper to replace Norris, a new Centre Half, a New holding midfielder and a new physical centre forward.

If PL can see the mistakes in where he got it wrong this year and is committed to trimming the squad but adding some more experienced and effective players then I would be prepared to stay with him for another season, despite the spin he has worked extraordinarily hard at trying to bring the heart of the club back together and for that alone I would be prepared to give him another bash for one more campaign.

Dirtydingus ...., if you think I'm a Lambert fan I suggest you actually read my posts before commenting - I'm not an Evans fan either because of his record here over the past decade. However, I have enough sense to know that in the absence of any other potential buyer, without Evans we have NO Club.
Shame a few more haven't (obviously) got enough sense to see that too - and understand the reasons why that would be the case.
Evans ownership has to be better than not having a Club - just look at what other Managers do and achieve with far, far less than what Lambert has had at his disposal this season - you should have noticed such Managers, they've been invariably beating us each week. Home and Away. Evans has paid people well, and trusted them to deliver - but not been anywhere near tough enough with abject failures - we have one in Lambert right now. An abject failure for all and anyone to see - and paid well for what ?? - a bit of spin, bullsh#t, and constantly telling us about the big Clubs he has been with. Big Deal - hey ?

Don't keep calling for the Owners head, unless you're a Canary in disguise .... !!! - I wonder ? - or until you have a logical, sensible, and workable alternative.
Plenty of gas - but still waiting for the above suggestions as alternatives.
I expect a long, long wait - but plenty more gas in the meantime no doubt.

I do wonder if some of the regular posters on here ever stop to think that their opinion is not necessarily the right one. Calling people fools for having a different view based on a fair assessment is bullying tactics and something which is increasingly getting personal. I think that Evans quitting the club could lead us into Administration or worse but if he is to remain our owner then he needs to invest appropriately beyond servicing the debt. I'm not talking lots of millions but enough to make us competitive. That's my opinion. Others may differ but please do so without recourse to offence.

literally no point in short term fixes, barring a major miracle this season is over so whatever we do we need to make plans for next season and beyond, therefore Warnock isn't the answer as he plans to retire this summer.

I'll admit to thinking Lambert was a decent appointment for us. I'm not sure why given his record, maybe I was just relieved to see Hurst and Doig gone. Unfortunately, since day 1 I've found it more and more difficult to support him. I'd never understood what a spin doctor he was prior to him arriving at Portman rd. It then quickly became apparent that we had appointed a massive ego, who point blank refused to listen to anyone. That's all fine if you can back it up with results on the pitch. The start to the season was an entirely false dawn, somehow grinding out results with good fortune far out weighing performance levels....the wheels were bound to fall off and very quickly did. Then along came squad rotation. His bizarre policy of "playing at Klopp". Players who were performing well for a game or two dropped and replaced training ground style, unsurprisingly resulting in disjointed and unfamiliar performances, and ultimately losing ones. So, we've started to slip but are hanging around the top of the table thanks to faltering from those around us. Cue the "you don't win anything in Nov/Dec/Jan" interviews. Oh, I nearly forgot the international break postponements even when only losing 1 or 2 players, in the middle of winning runs. Totally contradicted his squad rotation, basically announcing we need our strongest line up to compete! And now? Abject failure. Nobody, not 1 person other than the manager would have made that team selection for the Fleetwood game. Bizarre. Some may defend him by saying he needed more financial support. We'd all like to see that I'm sure but it just isn't going to happen in the current circumstances and financial situation. He knew what he was dealing with when he signed up. The best managers get the very best out of their resources, Lambert has proved he cannot. Sir Alex Ferguson had, in my opinion, probably the greatest ability ever as a manager turning above average players into world class internationals. In the short term Lambert did well at pulling our club together, that doesn't last long in the memory when performance on the pitch hits such a low. Thanks Lambo (I think!), time to go.

I don`t think Warnock is the answer in the long term. I would be happy with him assisting PL for the remainder of the season for a play off push, and I think that could work.
As for next season? Do we give PL a chance in the transfer window to sort out this diabolical squad? Especially as, yet again, he will not be given the funding to sort it.
I am not convinced he could make the team any better. I am not convinced that Warnock could do too much better seeing as he is adamant on retirement. I am also struggling to see any decent available managers that would be interested in coming here.

blueboy1981 , Evans will kill the club off anyway, so its just a slow death. I know we need a buyer , in order to sell, but is there any genuine effort to find a buyer , i think not as it is no big deal with Evans, to just amble along and sink he must realise more investment is needed but cant or wont do it .If you are happy with dropping down to non league football thats up to you. Personally i would like to see better things. Each to their own ..

Its either Evans making poor choices with managerial appointments or/and his failure to invest thats seeing the club in decline,Its not global warming ,

we dont have a player of the year this year, perhaps the tea lady or a cleaner should be awarded, as the rest of the club are so incompetent they deserve only a hefty boot up the behind....
