Warnock Linked Again But No Contact With Town
Wednesday, 4th Mar 2020 15:03

Neil Warnock is again being linked with the Town manager's job with the Blues claimed to be close to ending current boss Paul Lambert’s time in charge, however, we understand that as yet there has been no contact between the club and the veteran boss.

According to various reports, owner Marcus Evans’s patience is running out following last night’s 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood with Warnock said to be the man being lined up to take over, as was also speculated at the weekend.

However, TWTD understands there have so far been no talks between Town and Warnock despite the former Cardiff City and Sheffield United boss knowing Evans well.

Rumours that Warnock, who has previously said he plans to retire this summer, would be a target should the Blues look for a new boss previously circulated just after Christmas prior to Lambert signing a four-year extension to his contract, which runs to 2025, on New Year’s Day.

Warnock has been spoken to about taking over at Town in the past, most notably after Roy Keane’s departure in 2012, and we understand is interested in the role should it become available.

Quizzed on the links with Town job in December, he told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT: “I think I get linked to everything, all managers do, don’t they? I think that’s how it is at the minute, they’re all talk and everything and you just don’t know.

“But, like I say, if the right thing comes up, I’m not really bothered what it is, I just want to enjoy myself to the end of the season really.”

While Lambert's contract, signed only two months ago, has five years left to run, break clauses were included in the deal, one of which states that the Blues boss would receive a greatly reduced settlement if he were to be fired at the end of the season with Town having failed to make the top six.

Why is it that so many ITFC supporters believe that spending money on players is the oootruanswer to success ..... ???
Just ask Joey Barton how he is doing it, or Peterborough, or Rotherham, or Wycombe, or Coventry, etc; etc;
Reality check people - evidence that it is not necessary, just look above and around us in the low level of Football we now operate within, for every ounce of proof you SHOULD need.

blueboy Absolutely agree, who is scouting for Barton perhaps we could hire him, because our scouts are useless, those clubs you mentioned have all put teams together on peanuts and getting results,
We are the only club who have played more games than anyone now, so we have got to depend on other clubs to drop points, which is Logical or in other words it is out of our hands 7pts.needed just to get into the play off zone, so dream on Lambert and keep running up and down in your area for what good it ever does ?

Blue boy love reading your posts.
But surely you realise you can have the best scouts available.
But if the owner refuses to enter the market there's little point. Even Barton is backed to a degree. Players on frees loans or just cheap players cost money throughout there contract.

This is indeed a tricky one guys such is the mess the club is in.

Toxicity is sadly returning and crowds dropping, not nice to see.

Colins age is not a problem, if you are good enough and healthy you can still do a good job (Roy Hodgson and Fergie to name 2).

I would be tempted to give Colin an 18 month contract just cos things are so bad at moment and I think he genuinely likes us and knows the owner.

Or we could wait until summer and then appoint Nigel Clough who I would have had in the first place anyway.

So if there has been no contact, who is doing the linking? The rumour mill, presumably. According to the article, the "Blues boss would receive a greatly reduced settlement if he were to be fired at the end of the season with Town having failed to make the top six." Since we won't know the answer to that question until it is mathematically impossible, it seems the likelihood of Colin joining us in the very near future is slim to say the least.

Sad to say forget the snide remarks to each other for mistakes if PL has a limited contract ME is unlikely to do anything until the end of the season otherwise he's going to lose more money. ME is between a rock and a hard place, but that's down to his poor judgement. Our only hope is that PL does the honorable thing and resigns and takes the hit. I doubt that. Whatever happens in the boardroom we won't have any influence. Management have dug themselves a hole and unless something radical happens the fans are the losers again. Listening and watching breaks all our hearts both from the performances, listening to the rhetoric from the manager and players as well as the long suffering fan base.
Sorry, can't see anything happening at least until after the Coventry game on Saturday. Problem is I don't know what to hope for.

Money, money, money - that's all some of you harp on about - spending, spending, spending, lack of investment, lack of investment, lack of investment.

How about expecting currently well paid ITFC so called professionals to do what they are paid for - starting with the Manager, who's done nothing but talk - but no do.

And get the Scouts off their ass - that's if we have any.

we have bought decent players in the past without serious money, trouble is we then sell them and dont replace [regardless as to wether it is the players wish to leave.] Some of the players brought in by McCarthy [and they werent all good] are the one good thing he did and i do give him credit for that. Hurst f####d up and Lambert has not been able to stop the rot .

Colin W****r is an anagram of Neil Warnock. That's why he is 'affectionately' known as Colin.

That contract clause is a bit iffy. Looks like if we go for cheaper pay off we are relegation material this season

Warnock is not for me...over-rated, flatulent and idiotic. Stick with Lambert who can turn the season around on a winning run from now on. We are beleaguered and when you're down, the only way is up.If we can get that winning run together we can still pip one of the two promotion places.Have faith in Paul

Whether its Lambert that stays or someone new coming in, the management needs to look at the motivation and self-belief of the Lads and get them in that resilient, winning mindset as permanently as possible. Maybe a proper sports psychologist if we dont already have one, a la Glen Hoddle when he was England gaffer

So you are a canary if you call for the owners head ( blueboy 🙄) I'd suggest it's the other way around ! Backing a Trojan Horse, who's slowly but surely pushing the club into the abyss!
