Palace and Leeds Eyeing Woolfenden
Saturday, 14th Mar 2020 17:00

TWTD understands Crystal Palace and Leeds United are the latest clubs to have run the rule over Blues central defender Luke Woolfenden.

The 21-year-old has been one of Town’s top performers this season and has caught the eye of a number of sides from higher divisions, most notably Premier League high-flyers Sheffield United as well as Championship QPR.

Palace, currently 12th in the top flight, had Woolfenden watched as the Blues were beaten 2-1 at Blackpool a fortnight ago, while the Whites, top of the Championship as things stand, have also been keeping tabs on the former East Bergholt High School pupil.

Woolfenden is contracted to Town until the summer of 2022 with the club having an option for a further season.

It gets sadder with every passing week.
We are where we are for a reason, any assets we have created ,either through the youth programme or polishing up underrated players, ie Waghorn, Webster, are sold.
No doubt if KVY gets back to fitness and performance he will be gone in a season.
He who pays the piper calls the tune so hard not to feel Evans needs to take responsibility.

We need to invest in the youngsters like Downes and Woolfenden and rid ourselves of the under-performing experienced deadwood.
Convince these guys they are the future of this once great club and we want them to lead us back up the leagues.Give Downes the Captains armband and Woolfy the v/c.
Invest in these guys...and not just financially...stop dropping them for no reason but keep playing a mistake ridden alternatives

If we do sell him it's need to be at least 5m and then use it to pay Lambert off and get a decent manager in !!

This is my point about this 5 point plan bo!!ock$ how can it be implemented when most the silver is being sold before it reaches the first team then those that do reach are sold off for paltry sums anyway it's and impossible plan to promise or follow through!? But people still want to stick up for Evans and what he's doing!? As for any player in our team why would anyone want to stay that's any good our club is only going to get worse when the budget comes down again next year as well so why wouldn't they want to move 🤷‍♂️

If we manage to win promotion this season then we have a chance of keeping the squad together. If we don't, the better players will leave, our squad will be cherry-picked by clubs in leagues above us. Assuming that we fail to be promoted, I would expect Downes, Dozzell and Woolfenden to leave, Chambers and Skuse to stay.

Was very impressed for the first few months of the season, but he's been poor since. Has all the attributes to go up a level, but only if his passing/distribution improves dramatically. Similarly with Downes, they're nowhere near the standard required to be associated with the clubs who are 'allegedly' showing interest. I've seen plenty of central defenders/midfielders in league 1 who are a cut above our prized assets.

IMHO, we only stand a chance of prospering again if we retain the likes of Downes and Woolfie, bring in other academy players and a few well-chosen loans to play alongside them and bin off all the has-beens and never-beens. This drastically reduces the wage bill which should keep Evans happy. Then we need a manager who can motivate and get the most out of these young players which Lambo obviously can't.

Sold for £1.5m plus a few distant add-ons? I wouldn't bank against it.

I think we can all be quite sure, that any offers that come in for him, Downes or Dobra, then Evans will inevitably sell them all. Meaning that next season leaves us even less options.

Its official: The new club anthem will be Status Quo's "Down Down" in honour of our aspirations by the owner, manager and team over the past 13 years.

Get down, deeper and down
Down down, deeper and down
Down down, deeper and down
Get down, deeper and down
I want all the world to see
To see you're laughing
And you're laughing at me
I can take it all from you
Again, again, again, again, again, again, again

You have to wonder why any of these players would be wanted by other clubs.
We got good results early in the season because the opposition showed us too much respect, before the penny dropped that are forwards would do well to hit a barn door, that our defenders didn't bother with marking and that our midfield usually passed the ball sideways or backwards.
None of our players have played well enough consistently to tempt another club to pay decent money.
As for our Captain......!

Yes agree adeblueboy most of our squad is overrated apart from Wolfenden, Downes and KVY . Even our young players flatter to deceive Dobra being the best of a very ordinary bunch.
