The EFL, Premier League, PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) and LMA (League Managers Association) have released a joint statement following today’s meeting.

The statement reads: “Senior representatives from the PFA, Premier League, EFL and LMA met today and shared a constructive meeting regarding the challenges facing the game as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The meeting reiterated that the overriding priority is the health and well-being of the nation - including that of players, coaches, managers, club staff and supporters — and everyone agreed football must only return when it is safe and appropriate to do so.

“No decisions were taken today with discussions set to continue in the next 48 hours with a focus on several high-profile matters, including player wages and the resumption of the 2019/20 season.”

Football in the EFL and Premier League is currently suspended until April 30th but with the expectation the hiatus will be extended further.

Earlier today, UEFA confirmed that June’s international fixtures have been postponed, as have the remaining rounds of the Champions League and Europa League with no new proposed dates yet set.

Next season will be disrupted too so once this has settled down, however long that takes, the current season should be completed. I don't think any decision has to be made soon as nothing will change for a while. Stay safe!

Edmundo added 20:37 - Apr 2 PFA needs to get its head out of the trough and urge its higher paid members to give up 3 months pay to keep the little guys in their clubs, like the catering staff, solvent. It's not a difficult decision in this crisis. DO THE RIGHT THING

richardpaul added 21:58 - Apr 2 I think that most of us with any sense have woken smelled the coffee and realised that sport in general is on a back burner while we collectively address the new order of things There is no definite end for the virus and it could go on well into the autumn and then re emerge when the colder weather returns Not pessimism but realism. Money is driving all the talks of the various bodies involved in all sports to determine where the next step is but this virus doesn't care is indiscriminate and will continue for a long time to come All we can do is try and abide by the current rules and try to stay safe and hopefully most of us will see the end of this current pandemic but I can see a sea change in society and the leagues as we know them will be a lot different come 2021 with many lower league clubs priced out of the game
