Out-of-Contract Players to Learn Whether Club is Taking Up Options
Friday, 15th May 2020 19:42

Town’s soon-to-be out-of-contract players will learn this weekend whether the Blues will be taking up the one-year options of their deals.

Vice-captain Cole Skuse, Gwion Edwards, Danny Rowe, Will Keane and Jordan Roberts are the five players whose terms are up at the end of June.

The Blues have until the third weekend in May to take up their one-year options with news on those decisions expected from the club next week.

However, even if players don’t have their options taken up that won’t necessarily mean they will be leaving the club.

With so much uncertainty surrounding football and its finances at present, Town could offer new reduced terms later on in the summer once the situation becomes clearer.

Forward Jordan Roberts, 26, seems certain to be released having recently returned from a loan spell at Gillingham having made just a single one-minute League One appearance for the Blues during 2019/20 prior to his temporary departure to the Gills.

In January, Skuse, 34, revealed he was in talks with owner Marcus Evans regarding a new deal which would lead to a future unspecified role at Portman Road once he hangs up his boots, however, much has changed since those discussions took place.

As previously reported, the Blues have taken up the one-year options on Andre Dozzell, Armando Dobra, Brett McGavin and Harry Wright’s contracts. Dobra has all but agreed a new three-year deal with the option for a further season, while talks with Dozzell regarding a new longer term contract have been ongoing since last summer. We understand discussions with McGavin regarding new terms are also under way.

EFL chairman Rick Parry revealed earlier this week that there will be 1,400 players out of contract at the end of June, most of them in Leagues One and Two.

Can only hope the club does the right thing....

None of these 5 players have shown enough last season to warrant another year and Skuse is now too old. I would hope there are better players out there who we can pick up for free's or low wages. I think the tide has turned on big wages for very mediocre players.

Good to see the younger lads extending their stay, they need more game time and a run in the team when things kick off again.
Out of the 5 out of contract lads I'd keep Edwards and let the other 4 leave.

Personally I'd keep Edwards, Keane, Rowe and Skuse if we don't have a like for like replacement

Keep Skuse. I'd like to see him and Chambers in charge very soon Get rid of that waste of space Lambert, probably the worst manager in the history of ITFC. These two have an affinity to the club and surely can do better than any of Evans's other appointments. Difficult to do worse tbh. Player wise get rid of the rest. No loss.

Fair paint Muhrens Chambers and Skuse could be the leaders needed.
Respected by so many ex players despite many of us nothing realising what they offered.
Be glad for Lambert to leave but I'd be surprised to see him gone.

Skuse, Edwards and Keane to keep. Rowe 50/50. Just has never really happened. Roberts absolutely not.

I'd rather Burley and Butcher than Chambers and Skuse.

Not much longer to wait! The dynamic duo, Chambers and Skuse to ‘sleepwalk' the club to oblivion !

think Chambers and Skuse need gone, Dont think those two in charge would be wise, as soon as things go wrong can you imagine the sh#t they would get . Need to freshen and liven up now, move on from the shambles it has been. New manager ,new team ,new hope , i 'll leave Bluearmy81 to add his bit to that lol. come on Blue ,you know you want to . lol.

The ones we have taken up and the words that Lambert gave on this for the guardian last week, suggest that Town will be going With a tight budget and a younger squad for the next season. It's a great excuse for yet more budget cuts, While the other clubs will keep spending more than us!

Roberts and Rowe haven't been regulars and would expect both to go.

Edwards is often injury prone but decent at league one level.

Keane didn't look fit all season - there must be better.

Skuse has been a great player for the club but passed his best. Suspect the club will retain his services.

We need to be mindful of the fact that other clubs financially weaker than town will be forced to release players. Could be a good opportunity for us to make some changes and I would hesitate before throwing more money at Edwards and Keane, who for all their ability, haven't consistently done the business for us.

Everybody out! We need fighters not players who roll over. Get young hungry players.

Skuze is past his use/sell by date. Chambers too.

Need a new squad who will play with pride and fight.

Think Roberts days are numbered but would give an extra year to the other 4 players. Still think Rowe has potential but injuries haven't helped him

.....Harry Redknapp is looking to buy a club with potential, taxi for Evans, Chambers and Skuse!

Hard to say who to keep and who to let go without knowing how much these players are earning ,myself i think as Souper Jim has said there might be players in the market for new clubs as things must get tight financially for all EFL clubs .

Dirtyding it is unlikely that Bluearmy_81 will be able to make comment on this section, lets face it to make comment on this you really need to go to matches and as we all know going to matches is not his thing!!

I would keep Skuse as he's important around the club and an experienced back up player. Rowe is still one of our more productive wide players who works hard for the team so I would keep him. Keane May get another year and the others including Edwards should be allowed to leave.

Chambers & Skuse have too much power within the building set up by their mate Mick re contracts leading to coaching we can either be stuck with them or show them the door i know my view(the latter) regarding their future as a management duo they couldn't handle the flack when it goes tits up as they haven't as players with continued error ridden performances.

Think all 5 will go plus all the loan players.can't afford to keep them now times are hard and I don't think it will get better for a few years.
Not just itfc but all elf club's.
