Dobra Signs New Deal
Wednesday, 20th May 2020 12:09

Town have confirmed that youngster Armando Dobra has put paper to his new contract, as TWTD previously reported, a three-year deal with an option for a further season.

The Albanian U21 call-up had turned down earlier contract offers with the forward’s current terms up this summer, although the Blues had taken up the option to keep him for a further season while negotiations continued.

However, following discussions last month an agreement was reached and Dobra was at Portman Road this morning to put finally pen to paper.

TWTD revealed in January that Brighton and Hove Albion had made a £350,000 offer for Dobra, who broke into the Blues first team earlier this season and quickly became a fans’ favourite. A number of other Premier League clubs had also shown interesting in the Londoner.

The 19-year-old, who also qualifies to play international football for England and Kosovo, has made three League One sub appearances in addition to four cup starts and one game from the bench, scoring his only goal in his senior debut at Luton in the Carabao Cup in August.

Excellent news ..... let's keep where possible our core of youngsters together and build the team around them with 3-4 experienced seniors ... Norwood, Skuse, Edwards, Chambo, Sears, etc 👍

Whilst other clubs are getting rid of players and even managers in some cases, we're dishing out new 3 year contracts to our most promising youngsters... Seems odd considering Marcus, according to some, is a "tight arse" who has lost interest in the club

Good news, I hope El Miz is also up for consideration, I know he is injured at the moment but we should give him a chance

Very encouraging. The youngsters need to be given their chance, the more experienced pros have had their opportunity.

Dobra, El Miz, Dwones (if he stays), Lankester playing behind Norwood and Jackson next season could be pretty tasty...

Like most younger footballers, will be brilliant when he handles being wound up most games

Puts the selling price up if the player is on a long contract and you can be sure there will be a release clause in there as well.

I wouldn't be expecting Evans to act any differently than he always does, sell our better players and replace them with cheaper, useless ones!

Vital. Essential Dobra is in place to step into Downes shoes when we sell him for half a mars bar.

With so much uncertainty at present and money issues dominating the return of football, I am heartened that we continue to offer new contracts. Few clubs in leagues one and two are doing so and so sad that Burton have lost their manager because they cannot afford to pay him. Evans may attract criticism for not investing when he should have done but with transactions taking place it is a good sign that unlike many clubs we will still exist. Those in the north west take note.

Pleasantly shocked by this news. Dobra and Lankester fit and firing would give us a new dimension going forward in the way Woolfy and Downes have towards the back of the team.

Funny thing with Dobra last/this(?) season was that the opposition seemed to know how good he was, but we were not prepared to put him on the pitch. When we did they double up on him!

Regency - A typical view of someone who loves to spin Evans/Lambert negativity onto a genuinely good story for the club. Marcus Evans has shown numerous times in the past that he will turn down good offers to keep players here and those are only the ones we know about, sure there's plenty of examples that we're not privy to. However, clearly football is a business and like any business, if a good deal is on the table for all parties it will get done. Nothing wrong with that, that's how it works.

Given the current climate especially, think we all need to take stock and have a little rationality. Plenty of clubs will be very worried at the prospect of their club going under at the moment. Bet it's not even crossed any of our minds that we'll lose our club. I wonder why...

Going to need many like him with a proposed salary cap next year in Div 1 of £2.5m I would guess about a third of our current !

Pleasing and encouraging news. We just have to play the youngsters who will no doubt be paid considerably less than the more experienced players. Squad potentially to be trimmed to free up money as well.
