Dobra: I Want to Help the Club Get Back to Where it Should Be
Thursday, 21st May 2020 09:44

Forward Armando Dobra says his aim is to break into the first team and help the Blues to get back to where they should be once football restarts having signed a new contract yesterday.

The 19-year-old put pen to paper on a new three-year deal with the club having an option to keep him for a further season.

"It’s good to see that the fans are happy that I’ve signed a new deal," he told the club site.

"They’re a big part of why a signed a new deal. They’re amazing with me and hopefully in the future I can repay them.

"I want to try and break into the first team, play as many games as I possibly can and try and help get the club back to where it should be.

"I can see a pathway to play in the first team at Ipswich. There is the chance for youngsters to play here.”

The Albanina U21 call-up added: "I need to keep working hard. This is only the beginning, this is just another step to where I want to be when I’m older.

"Our health is the most important thing at the moment, though. When we get back I’ve just got to try and get back to the level that I was at and kick on.”

Dobra joined the academy aged 14 having been spotted by volunteer scout Paul Meekcoms while playing for Wingate and Finchley in the Eastern Junior Alliance Youth Football League.

Already a fans' favourite with that remark. Hope him and a few more of our younger players get a fair crack of the whip next season. Time to start gradually moving out the old guard and bring in the new.

He had a fantastic game in the under 23 cup v Spurs at home and I really got a little excited and hoped he would push on, not quite sure why he didnt.

Now he is ours and a long contract hopefully this will help and he may just be our jack in the box .

Good! that is what we like to hear but words do come easy and it's action we liked to see...but Dobra has potential but so have a few in our squad that aren't exactly showing it.

Now needs to be given a run in the side.
Can be a real match winner on his day.
Out with the old and in with the new

No doubt Brighton have kept track. 1 good performance and goodbye.
As lower leagues know, contracts mean nothing.

Good positive attitude from the young man. We've been starved of excitement for far too long now. If we could get KVY and Dobra starting then that would be a big step in the right direction. KVY and Dobra would be the first two names down on the team sheet for me. Even though we've only seen a little of Dobra it's apparent that technically he's streets ahead of most of the squad players. There is a question mark over his temperament (following his red card against Accrington) but that's something he should get better at with experience.
I'd be happy to write off a season by playing lots of youngsters to give them vital first-team experience. With what's happening in the world now surely this would be the time to try it. We've had 20 years written off so what would one more season matter! Sometimes you need to take a step back before you can take two forwards. Belgium invested in their youth set up and look at them on the international stage. We haven't fully reaped the rewards of our academy set up and it's time to go all in on it. Yes we've had some good players come through from the academy, however, I still think there is scope for it to be utilised much further. It's our only realistic chance of closing the growing gap on those in the leagues above.

If we keep Wooldenden and Downes, next season could see a very young team with Dobra, KVY, Nydam, Lankester, El Miz. Need some leaders though, every emerging good ITFC side had at least one: Mowbray 2000, Wark 1992, Hunter 1975...

Not bothered by his temprement. Fire in the belly is not a bad thing. Super Jim was the same and look at the playing career he had!

We need players with fire in their belly. It is just a matter of channeling the aggression in a positive way to make sure they stay on the field. How many times last season did we see toothless and passionless performances?
I am looking forward to the return of Lankester and Vincent-Young and hopefully a fit Bishop, Norwood, and Nydam and some of our other young players, especially Dozzel, showing greater consistency......

Of the very little I've seen of this kid he looks absolutely class, a cut above. Time to let him loose when football returns...with Downes, Wolf and hopefully Dozzell maybe, just maybe, the future might be a brighter place.
