Jackson Contract Talks Reportedly Stall
Friday, 22nd May 2020 09:55

Talks between the Blues and striker Kayden Jackson regarding a new deal are reported to have stalled.

According to the EADT, discussions regarding new terms for the 26-year-old broke down prior to the coronavirus crisis.

Claims that contract talks were taking place emerged in January but were played down by manager Paul Lambert.

“I don’t think that will happen until we know where we are [division-wise],” he said. “I think they’ll probably be talking, but I don’t think anything will be concrete until we actually know where we are.”

Bradford-born Jackson, who has scored 11 times during 2019/20, is said to have been watched by unnamed Championship clubs.

We understand Tony Mowbray's Blackburn Rovers showed interest in January.

However, there’s little need for the Blues to hurry into agreeing a new deal with the frontman, who effectively has two years left on his existing contract. As things stand his terms are up in the summer of 2021 but with the club having an option for a further year.

And given the present financial uncertainty in football Town are currently unlikely to be offering extended deals to players whose contracts still have significant time to run.

Panic not ! Common sense will prevail and much about the current status quo will remain unchanged for a while yet .
Players and agents will come to realise an entirely new set of ground rules is about to come into force .

Seems strange we'd be offering a new contract in the first place with a couple of years left.

He's not good enough for the championship

not strange to be offering a contract to a player with 18 months of his deal left , when higher division clubs are sniffing around him, very sensible.

however in the current situation with uncertainty over
a) whether we'll be even playing next season
b) a potential crippling wage cap
then there's no rush.

it does put us at heightened risk of losing players like jackson, downes, wolf for a pittance though

Hope he is not expecting a pay rise.
Seems to have improved his runs this year, some decent crosses and of course pace.
He is paid to score goals and you feel his finishing is not good enough but if it was he would not be at ITFC.. Frustrating first touch, lack of awareness
Could Playing with more of a target man or in a settled side help?

What part of this is can't hold on to him Fergal ffs!? He has 2 years left of contract. Like for everyone else the football landscape is changing and Salaries in football are likely to be effected. If we are sensibly not going to commit to what will likely be an inflated salary in the context of what is happening why would this be a surprise. Contract talks will be stalling on certain players across the country right now!

Good luck to Kayden Jackson where ever he goes. Simpson will give him a run for his money

the stats say that he is best in a settled side, with a regular partner.

look at his figures with norwood at the start of the season, compared with the "rotation" period (obviously it was not just him who was affected!)

In light of the present situation and the uncertain future for footballers he may regret not agreeing to the terms offered earlier, if, indeed, discussions advanced to that stage.

He isn't in the failed bracket yet...so no extension required.

Jackson is 26, could be a late bloomer (was improving), but will be very aware the clock is ticking. If there is even a sniff of an offer from The Championship then he may well be desperate to grab it given no material connection to the Town and no obvious reason to expect us to be at that level any time soon. Would not blame him or want to stand in his way, PROVIDING we can invest the funds back in to a player who can support Norwood. In fact I would go to Norwood and ask him what type (or actual) player suits his style and make him feel super important which is always good for a confidence player who could single-handedly fire us to promotion if he hits his straps properly.

It isn't just about how players are performing but also about their potential. We've missed on so many that did better a couple of seasons after a move. We need a settled squad and work with development of potential rather than chopping around every closed season with a squad padded with journeyman.

He had a pretty good season in league 1 with 11 goals. Himself & Norwood did find a decent partnership just a shame Norwood had his groin injuries in between their form.
See how well Jackson does for another season & take it from there.

Not good enough for the championship Bergholt Blue, who is in our squad Wolfenden might be Downes possibly KVY best prospect. I know fans have got their little favourites and players they dont like but give credit when it's due he's had a fairly good season 11 goals and 6 assists in a pretty poor team. We've got to get out of league 1 first and the facts state Jackson proved he's well capable in this league.

11 goals, 7 assists and pace to burn. Would have hit 15/20 goals given a whole season which is decent.

Not saying that it WILL happen, but sell our top goal contributors and what happens? Look no further than the aftermath of losing Waghorn, McGoldrick, Garner etc...

Not good enough for the championship, if we are going to play 3 up front would rather have Norwood down the middle. The wide players will then need to be good on the ball. Jackson's not in my opinion, his delivery from wide areas is poor

Not that bothered. Decent pace but not a great first touch. You want a footballer up front, not a sprinter! His goals to game ratio for us isn't great. I think Morris or Folami could of done better given a run in the team. My only doubt is Posh have previously been interested in Jackson and we know they have a good record of signing promising strikers so maybe they know something I don't. If he could get his first touch sorted and we found a better system to suit him (as pinging long balls to Jackson is a total waste of time) then he could be decent but based on what's he produced for us so far, then I'm not particularly worried. I think we paid too much for him in the first place. I honestly think a fit Ben Morris could of got us at least 11 goals as well this season.

If we got some decent money for him I'd bite their hand off, I really like him but he's just pace and not a lot else

Good enough for Championship? Pace always counts for something while you try and figure out the rest of it. He's 26 and while I've been watching him this season with Town it seems it took him awhile to figure out how effective those angled runs could be. A Championship or Prem League player gets up that learning curve quicker. If he steps up now he'll be on the bench.
