Jackson Contract Talks Reportedly Stall
Friday, 22nd May 2020 09:55

Talks between the Blues and striker Kayden Jackson regarding a new deal are reported to have stalled.

According to the EADT, discussions regarding new terms for the 26-year-old broke down prior to the coronavirus crisis.

Claims that contract talks were taking place emerged in January but were played down by manager Paul Lambert.

“I don’t think that will happen until we know where we are [division-wise],” he said. “I think they’ll probably be talking, but I don’t think anything will be concrete until we actually know where we are.”

Bradford-born Jackson, who has scored 11 times during 2019/20, is said to have been watched by unnamed Championship clubs.

We understand Tony Mowbray's Blackburn Rovers showed interest in January.

However, there’s little need for the Blues to hurry into agreeing a new deal with the frontman, who effectively has two years left on his existing contract. As things stand his terms are up in the summer of 2021 but with the club having an option for a further year.

And given the present financial uncertainty in football Town are currently unlikely to be offering extended deals to players whose contracts still have significant time to run.

All these - not good enough for the Championship comments are amusing.
In case you haven't noticed we are in the division below the Championship. We are not operating on a Championship budget. We have a Div 1 budget and Div 1 players. Perhaps a few could step up and play in the Championship, perhaps not.
If we manage to get out of this division and into the Championship then our budget would change as would many of the players. Even then with the artificial financing that many of the Championship sides currently have it would be very difficult to compete. Unless the rules on financing clubs are tightened and applied consistently this situation is unlikely to change any time soon.
That's the reality.

The longer the contract the more we can ask for him,( mr 10% is probably in his ear higher clubs are in for you etc so don't sign a thing) so we are playing a waiting game and as in the past the club will come second.

No championship club will be chasing his signature. Don't really care for players that show little commitment.

Big money earner who had a decent season in league 1. If the price is right I would say thanks and good luck for the future. We have some excellent young players will more football ability who could replace him. Personally I think the Championship would be a step too far but if he wants money then it's his call. Could allow us to keep Woolfenden or Downes but I doubt it

We will need him next season. Thought he was one of our best players.

Seen u23s regularly only decent young player anywhere near the first team is Dobra .Morris went on loan to Forrest Green and couldn't get in their team and hasn't done much in the u23s. Folami and Morris both need to go out on loan and prove they are good enough and not just be picked on reputation it didn't do Downes and Wolfenden any harm .

I kind of getting where you're coming from Fergalsharkey

Just read a whole list of comments debating whether one of our players is good enough for the 2nd division.

Back in the days there would have been a debate about whether or not one of our players were good enough to play for England.

But remember, when you laugh people laugh with you, when you cry, you cry alone.

Not good enough. He's a runner not a footballer.

If he was even half as good as the Accrington Stanley chairman claimed he was then we would of been promoted by now. Jackson is not even in the top ten for goals scored this season. There are better value options elsewhere if he doesn't want to extend with us.

Can't afford to let our better players go 11 goals is a good return in a team with a poor midfield. There's no guarantee if we got another striker he would be a success. I say get rid of the old crocks Bishop Huws etc who have been kicking around for too long and will never be fully fit. We need to get another attacking midfield player in.

Interest from Tony Mowbray ! Thought he was a decent judge of a player I'm suprised.

If a striker is scoring over 10 goals in a season teams are going to take note ,they won't care how he runs the colour of his eyes if you like his hair style etc. Hope he does leave and finds a club where he'll get decent service and fans who will back him instead of winging all the time. I would rather they got rid of Norwood who's obviously not interested in playing for the club and is more interested in things off the field.

not overly impressed with him ,but lets be honest who has been really impressive for us ,just a mediocre player in a mediocre lg 1 team with a manager that has an extended contract despite being a failure. This season has been a shambles ,then came the virus. !
