Coach Gill Completes 200km Running Challenge
Monday, 1st Jun 2020 12:58

Town first-team coach Matt Gill successfully completed his fundraising challenge to run 200km during May.

Gill, 39, joined keeper-coach Jimmy Walker’s Football DNA coaching school’s campaign to raise £10,000 for NHS Charities Together and the UN Foundation.

“I’m about to embark on a 200km running challenge for the month of May,” Gill said ahead of the challenge. “I’m trying to help the guys over at Football DNA raise as much money as they possibly can for the NHS.”

Football DNA hosts videos on training drills, sports science, well being and nutrition.

As reported last month, owner and founder Walker, 46, is offering 30 days of free membership during the coronavirus lockdown, followed by an offer of £5 a month with all proceeds going to NHS Charities Together and the UN Foundation. Donations to the two charities can be made via a Just Giving page.

Don't mean to sound harsh, but is just over 4m a day for a guy involved in professional sport really a challenge?! I have friends who completed a half marathon a day for charity in May, both furloughed, so have the time, but thats more of a challenge. Not a run around the park a day!! These sorts of things raise a lot more interest and importantly money, if they are actually a challenge!

@Wallingford_Boy how can you possibly make a negative comment about this? Matt could hate running, he could have minor health problems, long term injuries etc. Even if he's super fit with a clean bill of health, to run 200km across 31 days is a great effort, and as it's for charity every little helps. Congratulations to your friends who ran 13 miles per day for 31 days straight - that is remarkable!👏

Yeah, does come across as harsh, fair play to him. Just saying, none of us probably knew much about this, because its not a huge deal, had he gone for it, then it's have got more media attention.

But yeah, I can't judge him, so apologise for that.

Have just walked 165 miles in May, wouldn't have fancied running it
