Dozzell Slams Racist Tweets
Sunday, 7th Jun 2020 14:37

Town midfielder Andre Dozzell has expressed his disgust at racist responses to an Ipswich Borough Council tweet showing support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

Yesterday morning, IBC tweeted that the Town Hall would be lit up that evening in purple “in memory of George Floyd whose death in the USA has prompted global outrage”.

They added: “Ipswich joins councils across the UK in expressing solidarity with black, asian and minority ethnic communities around the world.”

While most replies backed the move, a number of tweeters were less supportive of the initiative and the Black Lives Matter campaign.

Ipswich-born Dozzell was among those to respond with dismay to some of those tweets: “Look at all these racists in the comments. Disgusting people from my hometown smh [shaking my head].”

A number of fans replied to the 21-year-old’s tweet backing his view and expressing their own disgust.

Meanwhile, full-back Kane Vincent-Young posted a selfie on Instagram from yesterday's Black Lives Matter demonstration in London which received likes from a large number of his current and former Blues team-mates and fans.

The club themselves issued a tweet in support of Black Lives Matter on Tuesday.

Good to see a stand being taken on the cancer of racism. It needs to be made abundantly clear that it is completely unacceptable. Great to see the players and posters on here standing together in the condemnation of it and the ignorant and small minded people who seek to perpetuate it.......

Well done Andre.
All racists are ignorant. All racists are a threat to civilisation.
Racism must be eradicated.

Great that oppressed footballers have the courage to speak out.

Thats good to see. These people should understand though that destroying property and defacing Churchills statue will alleanate many decent people.
Keep it civilised please.

I see that one of TWTD's regular contributors felt it necessary to remove one of his posts due to the down arrows he received.

I'd just like to point out that as a youngster I suffered racial abuse, yes, other ethnicities can have racists among them too you know?!

No one could disagree that the behaviour of American police disgusts us but to see the treatment of our police, of many ethnicities, having missiles thrown at them was does not help with the problem with racism that I do agree, still infests our society.

Fortunately, these so called ' anarchists ' will go back to mummy and daddies middle class lifestyle and have a good laugh with their chums.

Of course there is no place for racism. I recall monkey chants from our own north stand in the 80's, which have fortunately been eradicated.

My comments are of course from a white perspective so perhaps I am not in a position to post on this thread. And although it's not necessarily I should mention the strong relationships I've had and still do with black friends before being deemed a racist.
And it's a shame that I have to do that!

On a slightly different note, having now entered my 14th week of quarantine with my 2 children, due to having received a solid organ transplant, I was due to be released in some small way on the 30th of June.

So a special thanks to the tens of thousands of protesters who chose to ignore the government's advice and those who feel it necessary to cram the beaches of which was the safest region of the country for increasing my family's sentence for another three weeks.

Indeed 73.

You stole my headline.

ALL lives matter.

Since73, Lee Rugby's own mother has said she doesn't want her son's name used to further hate and division, its a lovely statement if you care to read it.

Thanks for that 81. See it's not true what other posters say about you. No mention of Evans in 2 posts.

Tiresome that we still have to put up with this persistent minority. Let's hope they never come to PR (when the rest of us finally do). I don't need to go through all the great black players ITFC have had down the years. Full support to all our current black players who have to put up with this nonsense.

I am pleased to say that I've never heard any kind of abuse at a town game.

Its mad that it still happens in this day an age. I'd have no issue with our lads walking off if they were to ever subjected to such abuse.

As for America, its a nutty county and Trump brings them all out.... hopefully they'll kick him out in Oct and the World will be a better place.

ITFCsince73 do you realise you're parroting devisive and ignorant rubbish plastered all over social media by the EDL and BBP designed to stir up racial tensions? That Lee Rigbys family have specifically asked people not to do in his name? Not a great look and pretty tone deaf given the story above.

All lives matter Jim....that's my message. Don't really care what messages other have.
You do it would appear.

SouperJim added 18:14 - Jun 8
Which again is completely tone deaf. Black Lives Matter is a statement on inequality, not all people are being murdered in broad daylight by the people supposed to keep them safe. Black Lives Matter isn't saying black lives matter more than other lives, it's saying black lives are valued less by society than other lives. Why you would want to detract from that message is beyond me.

ITFCsince73 added 18:18 - Jun 8
Not trying to do anything about anything Jim. I have my message, and happy to stick to that.
My advice to you is move on.

SouperJim added 18:32 - Jun 8
Happy to stick to your message which is serving to perpetuate the problem. Gotcha, well done.

ITFCsince73 added 18:40 - Jun 8
Jim....what is your problem? Black, white, orange or silver. They all matter, that's my message.
You come on here reporting what the EDL and BBP are saying. I've no interest in what those groups think or are saying....you clearly do.
I'll say again leave me alone and move on.
OR I'll report to the TWDT admin.

My problem is ignorant people posting racially devisive twaddle that is completely ignorant of the issue. If the EDL and the BNP were saying the same stuff as me, I'd be very interested. Or concerned I should say, as I'm not a fascist. Are you?

I'm trying to help you understand the issue here, as I feel this is very important and clearly you don't grasp the message. Leave you alone? You're choosing to read and reply, I'm not forcing you to engage with me. If you can't handle criticism of what you post, I'd suggest the internet is not for you my friend.
