Town Linked With Irish Youngster McNally Friday, 12th Jun 2020 13:28
Town are reported to be considering a move for St Patrick’s Athletic central defender Luke McNally.
According to the Irish Independent, the Blues view the 20-year-old as a potential recruit over the summer.
Having spent the 2019 Irish season - which runs through the summer - on loan at Drogheda United, McNally was expected to be a regular in the St Pat’s side during 2020, which was halted in mid-March due to the coronavirus crisis.
McNally, who is said to be “technically assured”, joined Saints in 2017, having previously been with Drogheda’s youth set-up.
In usual circumstances, St Pat’s would be able to negotiate a fee for McNally, who signed a new two-year contract in January and based on his time at the club and training compensation, however, the Dublin side laid their squad off temporarily in April which is said to have complicated his situation.
The Blues are reported to have stepped up their interest over the last week with the 2019/20 season having been curtailed.

How many Irish youngsters have we signed recently and have subsequently made it at the club? I can only think of Shane Supple and that was a while ago. Cheap and cheerful springs to mind.
Always happy to have players linked - especially promising youngsters. But we need some tall centre backs and a target man - so I hope this kid is tall! And maybe we give Drinan a go in pre season
We need more arrogance with genuine skill. A manager that can cope with it too. One name rumoured a while ago would wake our sleepy club up “You know who, but that may have past us” Wish Paul Lambert would fill me with confidence. His pre and post match words are too Burley like and very Droll. Come on Paul, if your staying please show us what you can really do. I know you can!! I'm going to stop moaning from now on. I promise to be encouraging. Maybe we all should try it. See if this helps our very sad club do the good stuff on a regular basis :-)
ITFCsince73 - Holy can't go up for corners. We have no height in the team apart from him and Woolfenden (who doesn't look tall but the internet says he is!). In this division, I'd say we're lacking height. As dull as times were under Mick, we were a threat at set pieces in no small part thanks to the height of Berra and Smith and Murphy.
Almost all clubs in this league and below will be looking for ‘cheap deals'. Outside of the club we are still likely to be seen as an attractive move unless they look at TWTD of course !
Bert last year we had a very good player we spoke to, but he ended up going to a L2 club. Players don't have to worry themselves with TWTD. They only have to look at the club, and team performances over many years. That's tells them ITFC don't look like a club going anywhere fast. Of course he can look at this platform, and in general it will only say the same things that is widely known throughout the media and in the football world. ITFC was once a very attractive club.....not anymore. Although we are an attractive club it seems if your after a good wage, but don't have to bust a gut for it.
Rugbytomc. Last season we had Jackson, Norwood, both pushing 6ft. Will Keane 6 foot plus. Do we need Peter crouches? Berra and Murphy wasn't tall, they just knew how to attack the ball.
ITFCsince73, I think Rugbytomc is just being polite by saying we need height in the defence instead of stating the bleeding obvious as to who needs removing from it.
He was being polite. I was also being polite in my response. We have Holy and the Wolf back there. Any other centre back, big or small. Who can play. Would slot nicely in with them. I made no mention of removing anyone. Especially the unmovable. As we know, that's not an option.
Keane literally has cinderblocks for feet. Murphy was quite tall, berra definitely was tall. Norwood isn't. But yes specifically we need a couple more players who can win the ball in the air as we have no one at present who does that-whatever their height. I love the fist pump but last year chambers form was erratic and this year it's not been great but who have we got that's better than him or challenges him to fight for his place? Nsiala? No
Murphy is 2 inches taller, than Norwood. Berra 3 inches taller than Norwood. The only real difference from the 3 players is 2 know how to attack a ball. The other not so well. Some of the best players in the world, in the air, are under 6 foot. Unless you are over tall such as Holy or Crouch, there's no benefits. Man City have few players even approaching 6 foot, as do many other teams. Playing hoof ball style has benefits, if you have tall players up top. But again you need ball winning skills as well as height.
I'm not a hoofball fan but I think it's a case of horses for courses. In league one I think having some Aerial threat is good at the top of the premier league because of the style of play, not so much. Look at naaarich. Won the championship last year, playing their same style, bottom Of the prem. their style isn't suited to the prem as well as it was the championship. We have no style hence we're suited to no division at the moment ðŸ˜
We need experience next to woolfenden to help him learn the trade but not someone over the hill, a 30 year old with bags of experience to settle down the defence and be a leader
No disrespect to the lad or his team, but if we want to get back into the Championship we need to entice players from that level, not the local pub team. Hurst has already proved what happens when you get players from lower leagues. On the other hand if we reach League Two next year then prices should come down.
Therein61, couldn,t agree more, who would want the totally ineffective, non-leading fist pumped. To move forward we need a Captain in the Tony Mowbray mould, a winner, organiser, leader, someone who hates losing. I,d love to know what our current scouting set-up is like as there must be players out there who fit the criteria.
Don't understand the reluctance from Paul regarding Tommy Smith; he would probably sign for us, an experienced international, scores goals, can operate at CB or LB. It seems likely Wolfsden will leave sooner than later and Chambers must get dropped.
