New Kits Launched in Next Couple of Weeks Despite Challenges
Tuesday, 23rd Jun 2020 20:00

Town are hoping to launch their new home and away kits for the 2020/21 season in the next couple of weeks, despite the challenges presented by the coronavirus crisis.

The lockdown has impacted the availability of players to model the strips and has also led to production issues with kit supplier adidas.

“This kit launch is unlike any other the club would have had to contend with. It’s certainly been the most challenging,” Lee Hyde, Town’s director of retail operations, told the club site.

“We’re as keen as possible to bring all kits to the supporters as soon as we can with the launches that they deserve.

“The hope is the club can still reveal the home kit for the new season before the end of June.

“This does rely on a number of things falling into place but if it’s not then, it will certainly be within the first week of July.

“The away kit is likely to be revealed shortly after the home kit and we will be in a position to be able to take pre-orders immediately upon revealing the new look to the fans.

“The full pre-order process will be carried out online only due to the challenges around social distancing and managing crowds in the superstore.”

With 2020/21 the 40th anniversary of the 1981 UEFA Cup triumph it's believed the new kits will reference the adidas strips worn in that season, widely viewed as the greatest in the club's history.

Looking forward to it. Must be better than the last couple.

What are the chances of the club messing the kits up to? They probably spent half the time on the socks and shorts so they are fantastic. The top however was a last minute bulk order from A*azon for Fruit of the Loom shirts. Wrong shade of blue, with Ipswich Town in white iron-on letters and a "My Little Pony" for the badge.

Sadly the shirt will be the only thing that resembles the ‘81 team.

Does this mean the away kit will be White and Black? I hope so, after the last couple of monstrocities.

Does it have a small sad face on it?

Linkboy, As the club want us to buy the kit and be seen about in it, its only fair to expect a nice looking kit. Nothing embarrassing about that. If it looks good, I may invest in one, on the other hand I didn't purchase the last 2 seasons shirts as, quite frankly, I'd be embarrassed to be seen in them, I bought a replica 1978 kit from the club shop instead.

BTW Linkboy. Knew begins with a 'K' . Rather embarrassing spelling there. ;)

It is a strange fact, that more often than not a club with a good kit does perform better on the pitch. Whether it's just coincidence? The fans are more buoyed by wearing it? The players feel better wearing it (loosely using the 'if you look good, you feel good' adage)? Opposition players feel (subconsciously) in awe of it? It does ultimately often transpire into positive results.

If so our bunch of under achievers, and footballers in general are weaker than they should be

I really liked our last kit, 19/20

Pinstripes on the new blue/white and white/black kits I would imagine surely
