Former Blues midfielder Luke Hyam has been released by Southend United.

The 28-year-old joined the Shrimpers, who were relegated having finished second bottom of League One on points per game, in the summer of 2018 having left Town, his hometown club, at the end of the previous season.

The former Northgate High School pupil made only three starts and three sub appearances during an injury-hit 2019/20 and just 18 starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring once, in his two years at Roots Hall.

Player-coach and ex-Australia international Mark Milligan, Sam Mantom, Theo Robinson and Henry Burnett have also been released by the Essex side.

Nearly all these can be achieved , unless there's a deep seated problem of which we no nought : so it's down to Luke to prove himself to himself ,or come to terms with lesser expectations : but I wish him the very best of good fortune as once again he tries to find the way forward . cat added 16:24 - Jun 24 Sad to hear, specially at the age of 28 when you should be in your prime. Luke's standout performance for me was his ‘barnet' often wondered how he could concentrate on the game when he spent so much time preening it. Message to player, get the clippers out and focus on the game.

Cakeman added 18:23 - Jun 24 Disappointing for him. I thought he was going to go on to better things when he first played for us. He was making his mark when we had a decent team and he had good players with him. He was also holding his own playing against some strong Chsmpionship players. Sadly as others have mentioned there are serious doubts over his ability to stay fit. Hope he finds another club if not he may need a change of career.

Linkboy13 added 19:58 - Jun 24 Sorry got no time for players who go out to deliberately kick players. Alan Judge was a top player at Brentford till his leg got badly broken by Hyam it's plainly obvious Judge still shows the signs he carries that leg in games.

woodster added 12:52 - Jun 25 28!!??? I still think of him as being 21 or 22! Wish him the best - proper 100% player who was proud to wear the shirt - wouldn't cost much to have him back..? Maybe a pay as you play oriented with hi injury record...
