Town Spend £325,262 on Agents' Fees
Wednesday, 24th Jun 2020 18:53

Town spent £325,262 on agents’ fees between February 1st 2019 and January 31st this year, well down on the £790,210 paid out during the previous season.

However, of the other clubs in League One, only Sunderland (£1,346,373) and Coventry (£353,632) spent more on what are now officially known as intermediaries. In total clubs in the third tier paid out £3,921,805.

The £325,262 covers 15 transactions, permanent signings and new contracts for players already at the club. No loan fees are listed for loan additions Luke Garbutt, Will Norris and Josh Earl.

During the period covered the Blues spent money on only one player, right-back Kane Vincent-Young who signed from Colchester United for £500,000.

This year's figure is significantly down on the Blues' spending in 2018/19 when £790,210 was paid out to intermediaries. A year prior to that Town spent £241,969.

The FA has been required to publish clubs' spending on intermediaries by FIFA regulations since April 2015.

Sooner agents are kicked out of football and a clean ethical system brought in, the better

If players feel they need representation then they should pay for it themselves. That would help clubs both financially and in the transfer market where these parasites do everything in their power to over inflate transfer fees and wages just to up their cut.

What a ridiculous amount charged for average players.

To be fair I don't think this is much different to most businesses paying money to recruitment agencies. They would argue that they select and vet candidates for jobs but in reality most of the time they do neither.

TJS, clubs have scouts to track down suitable candidates.

If the players had to pay for it themselves, they'd all be approaching all the glamour clubs all the time, and most of them would get rejected, just as in a normal jobs market. The clubs would have to employ at least one if not more people to sort out the applications, and there would be no evidence on how good the player was until the club started watching him.
Just as with normal recruitment agencies, the intermediary role can save you a lot of time, and time is money.
