Showed the character and integrity to value ,looked the part and displayed professionalism throughout his stay . A good left foot , quite good vision and an eye for an attacking opening .
IF PL and Co. need a balance to the l/ h side of any future squad he could well be the answer – seemed pretty fit too !
We shall see ,but he'd be a good man on our books .

He is unlikely to join any of our Division 1 rivals, so if PL & the club want him we are in with a chance of getting him by offering terms early, before the Championship finishes & those clubs look to sort out their squads for next season. If Coventry or Rotherham are interested, they can offer him Championship football of course & are looking to next season already.
I like him & would definitely be in favour of signing him if possible; he offers quality at left back, left wing back & left wing, although his main strengths are in going forward & delivery rather than straight defensive work.
With the uncertainty of next season & teams definitely going to be wary of having big squads on big contracts, he may be wise to consider an offer on the table rather than waiting weeks or months with no wages for better options which may not come.

As much as I'd like him we won't get him or pay the wage. This guy was on 20,000 a week now he'll probably have to take a pay cut to go somewhere new yeah but he's be on not even half that or even a quarter if he came back and Evans WONT pay the wage simples we wouldn't have paid the wage in the championship so defo won't!

He scored 3x as many goals in his part season than Skuse has in 6 years. Rather than waste wages on the later why not use this to sign Garbutt

At the moment i think it is unrealistic to get him on a wage we can afford and that he would accept. I would imagine the gap is too large. That said he is no youngster so may be prepared to take a sizeable cut if he could get a lengthy contract.
Good proven player at our level but we will be heavily reliant on our youngsters for the foreseeable future.

Can't imagine he will be playing for us next season which is a real shame. If I was the manager of Rotherham, Coventry or any of the lower table Championship teams, I'd be going in for him.

How do you think Garbutts wages ( assuming he took a colossal pay cut) would shoe horn into the new salary cap of £2.5m for the whole squad ? Evans is restricted by these rules .

We needed to have kept out (Salary Cap) matches dry and not signed one of the higher earners who are well past their best...even in L1. If the £2.5m salary cap does come into operation then we have no where to manoeuvre as most of our allocation has been used.

Would like to see him stay but agree that money will be a problem. However that said who knows whether or not he will get a much better offer. Having been on such good wages for a lengthy period he has presumably got a decent amount salted away and could decide that he can accept a cut to be playing regularly. I think his best position for us is left midfield and with K V-Y on the right it would give us a very nice balance. Like an earlier poster I think that Evans should make an early offer to show that he is wanted and will have a starting place rather than just assuming he will go for more money elsewhere ...... time will tell.......

I believe the salary cap doesn't come into effect till next season so if Evans for once wants to show a statement of intent and demonstrate he wants to get out of this division then sign him and show he has some ambition. How we have fallen under Evans......

this past season we were a ''championship'' side in Lge 1 and werent good enough, next season we are a Lge 1 side , and just a bang average one at that. We can no longer expect to attract players of his calibre or pay their wages so dont set hopes too high. Evans has overseen the decline to this level , this is his level , the challenge now is not to drop further. I have absolutely no faith in Evans, and fear for the future.

Right so this guy is now effectively out of work and I guess for his and his familys sake would like to take sort things sooner rather than later.

I guess we must be in driving seat as we know him and he knows us and if town move in early with a creative offer (therein lies the problem) we must have a chance.

Obviously we can not pay him what we paid him last season but a range of bonuses for appearances,goals,play offs and promotion may wrap up an attractive deal.

Should have done that with Kevin Phillips many years ago and we messed up then and although this is on a smaller scale I have no faith or trust that the current regime will do any better.

You've got to sign him up ITFC he was a great player for us, can't see us signing anyone else better. I know we have Kenlock but is he really the answer?!!

Everyone knows how this will play out and it won't be with garbutt coming back to town, not in a million years! Good luck where ever you end up luke. Unfortunately we will have to use Kenlock as our regular left back who not bad at going forward, but is absolutely awful at defending. There will be no signings but there will be sales (wolf and downes)

Offer 10k a week as hes a free agent release chambers and skuse and use there wages for garbett.we must have youngsters ready to fill these 2 gaps.

The salary cap is unlikely to come in before 2021/22 season so there is some room to manoeuvre.

I don't though think Garbutt is a realistic signing other than for 12 months with an option that we can extend if we were to get promoted. As much as I like him and would love to see him a town player, pragmatically I don't see him being a realistic option.

ME's business ventures are going to take a huge hit from COVID19 and at least a £3 million hole in ITFC finances.

This too me points to the knockdown sale of Downes and Woolfie, don't expect any more than £2 Million each in the current climate. Depressing as that may seem, and for me who can often be critical of ME, I actually feel slightly encouraged by ME's continued support for the academy and signing young players on longer term contracts like Dobra.

The problem is whilst our academy is providing some real talent, e.g. El Mizouni, Dobra, Lankester, we have too many underperforming senior players squashing progression.

Yes we need to continue to keep the conveyor belt moving in turning out young talent, but we need to start giving game time to some of these youngsters otherwise they will just congest the opportunities of the next batch.

Under Sir Bob the 78 cup winning side on the day only had 3 players that didn't come through the ranks (Cooper, Hunter and Mariner), the boys of 81 had 4 (Cooper, Mariner, Muhren and Thijjsen).

In recent years I have enjoyed watching the U23's more than the first team and believe you me there is some talent there.

The likes of Bishop, Nydam, Dozzell are at the point that when the salary cap comes in they will be over 21 and not exempt, in fact Teddy is no longer a young player.

This coming season is a big year for a large number of the squad as there are a large number of contracts up at the end of next season.

As much as I recognise the abilities of the likes of Huws, Nolan and Judge (and others without naming more), players like these owe ITFC a big season next year failure to get off the mark within the first few games should see them jettisoned in favour of the likes of El Mizouni, Lankester and Dobra. These experienced players MUST find consistency and by that I mean at least 7 out of 10 each week with a fair smattering of 8's and some 9''s. We should at least be getting 3 players in the Division 1 team of the week.

Contrary to many's opinions I did see enough from Andre Dozzell to suggest he could be a very good play maker at this level. Nydam (hoping he recovers from his horrific injury) has the ability too make the left back position his own converting from his more preferred midfield position. Young Tommy Smith will not be far behind.

Teddy, one of my favourite players is in the last chance saloon I am afraid, not enough games due to lack of fitness and not converting enough of his play into real chances or assists.

I fear Ben Morris and Ben Folami have lost their opportunity, the likes of young Simpson probably leap frogging them in the pecking order.

Neverthe less it's time to standup and be counted not only for the senior players but those on the fringe for so long without fully taking their chances.

The conveyer belt has to keep moving and a bit more ruthlessness is needed both on and off the pitch.

Can anyone please give me any reason to be optimistic for next season. Evans is bound to tighten the purse strings once more selling our better players and not replacing them. There's very little to get excited about in the youth team apart from Dobra. Questions have to be raised about our scouting network. Peterborough United seem to constantly find good strikers latest being Ivan Toney.

I think that we have enough talent to get out of this division if everyone plays to their potential. I would give the following line-up a good run.

Holy
Wilson - Woolfie - T Smith (preferably the older one....)
K V-Y - Lankester - Downes - Huws - Garbutt
Norwood - Jackson

Bench - Wright, Nydam, Bishop, Dozzel, Simpson, Morris/Folami and a new Centre Back.
Out: Chambers, Skuse, Nolan, Judge to free up some wages hopefully if we can find someone to buy them.
