Town Launch New Home Kit
Tuesday, 30th Jun 2020 14:26

Town have revealed their new home kit for the 2020/21 season which, as TWTD previously reported, is a tribute to the strip the Blues wore 40 years ago in 1980/81, the campaign widely regarded as the club’s greatest in which they won the UEFA Cup.

The shirts, produced by adidas as was the case in 1980/81, feature a one-year return of the badge worn in that era - which was replaced in 1995 - with the legend ‘UEFA Cup 40 years’ below it.

The inner back-neck of all home shirts feature Sir Bobby Robson's quote about that side, “This was my greatest Ipswich team, They were the perfect jigsaw.”

The traditional blue shirt is augmented by what the club is describing as a “seasonal change” to blue shorts, which were worn in the away leg of the final against AZ 67 Alkmaar in Amsterdam in which Town confirmed a 5-4 on-aggregate victory, as well as in the memorable away victories at St Etienne and Cologne in the semi-finals.

The socks are blue with a white trim, however, with the adidas three stripes blue rather than white as in recent seasons and in 1980/81.

The front of the shirt bears the Carers Trust logo, something gifted to the charity by sponsors Magical Vegas.

Carers Trust CEO, Gareth Howells told the club site: “We are thrilled to see unpaid carers recognised with the Carers Trust logo featured on such a special commemorative shirt. On behalf of all the unpaid carers we work with, I’d like to wish Ipswich Town every success for the new season.”

John O’Reilly, chief executive of Rank who own Magical Vegas, added: “We’re proud of our partnership with Carers Trust and we’re continually looking at ways in which we can further support the charity.

“We’re delighted that this sponsorship will shine a much needed spotlight on the fantastic work Carers Trust do in supporting unpaid carers across the UK.”

The new shirt will also feature the updated EFL name and number font as well as the logo of the EFL’s charity partner, Mind.

Fans can also have ‘Thank you NHS” added to the back of their shirts with all profits going to the Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity.

The back of the shorts bear the Mortgagemove.co.uk brand. Company principle Nick Golding said: “We are delighted that the Mortgagemove.co.uk logo adorns the new kit which is a tribute to such a successful period in ITFC’s history.”

The kit can be preordered now from www.itfcshop.com with delivery as soon as they arrive at the club, late July at the latest, although the club say that is still to be confirmed due to the ongoing uncertainties caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Fans who preorder will also receive a set of six luxury postcards (worth £15) designed by illustrator George Ripton. Each postcard will depict a scene from the 80/81 UEFA Cup campaign.

Given the guidelines around social distancing and the advice given to retail stores, the pre-ordering is only available online.

I joked a week or two ago that ITFC would get the socks and shorts bang on and the shirt would be botched. It's the other way around. Should be white shorts! We are not Leicester or Chelsea (in oh so many ways!).

Agree with Packwood Blue. It's a nice kit, but I'd have preferred white shorts for the contrast.

Its nice to be on the video. Remember it as if it were yesterday. Best day of my life except for the FA Cup Final agin Arsenal. In two years we could be playing noddy Narrich again. In the mean time support our team through thin and thin. If it wasn't for Marcus we would be playing Hednesford and Barrow. Moaning never won a battle or war. I think the singing with the Fortuna Düsseldorf fans is my season highlight and they, poor devils, have just been unluckily relegated from the Bundesliga. Dont see them moaning all the time like canaries?

I'm so ashamed of my lack of knowledge of kit details :-(

Gets the thumbs up from me - nice to see a non betting site on the front. A smart looking kit.

Fair enough Pete, but the club can't win - they've been getting grief on social media for weeks from people complaining the kit hadn't been announced yet.

I imagine kit sales are a very important source of revenue right now, given we will have lost money on attendances as the season ended early. It's not something they can avoid doing.

Fair enough Pete, but the club can't win - they've been getting grief on social media for weeks for not releasing the new kit design already.

I imagine the kit is a strong source of revenue particularly given we have just lost out on a lot of money from attendances with the season ending early. It's not something the club can avoid doing.

Im pleased to see the all blue kit as this was worn many years before 1981. Personally i would be happier to see a new captain & vice captain appointed. Club badly needs new leadership on the pitch & to move on

Well said Debs! Pete yes the club is in a mess and so is the country but celebrating Anniversaries should still take place, no matter what the present plight! And as for Norwich, it is tough living around Norfolk and has been for a while. But they will never have an anniversary of winning a European trophy, I enjoyed watching them get beat by Man Utd. Do you know they actually thought they were going to win the FA cup. They celebrate reaching the semi-final in 1950 something when ever it was!
We are all sick of our position in league football but celebrating our successes is a no brainer!
I love the kit!!!

I'm sure i'll like the kit when i have a proper look at it whilst not having the ar$e about Garbutt not signing !

Just wish wish everyone at the club could see what we see and make some decisive changes on and off the pitch but it seems they are all happy to keep plodding along doing the same old, same old which means we get the same old results.

Im a fan of that!!

Lets hope lessons have been learnt and we kick on next season because as a play with the phrase (uefa cup winners) on your shirt youd feel a right t!t losing to fleetwood at home

Imagine getting angry about us designing a nice kit to play in. Imagine finding the negatives in that and being angry about it. Peoples attitudes amaze me.

It's nice. It's a good kit. Well done to all involved. Lets hopemthe season can match it!

Love it.
Yes its frustrating where we are now.
But as a fan who remembers the good days I am going to enjoy the Nostalgia. Living in the North East I don't get to PR often these days so will chuck some money at this.

Apologies, having been up in my loft and found my 1985 home and away shirts the badge didn't change (43 season dementia has set in I am afraid). LOVE the new shirt and will buy it. Perhaps we can go back to pinstrips the year after next.

I've just watched that video. I do believe they put Chambers in the same sentence/category as Mills and Butcher! FCUK OFF.

New kit same sh-t . I was in Amsterdam that night it was a fantastic effort considering the squad was carrying so many injuries . Probably Bobby's only regret he didn't sign two or three more players the season before then we would have won the league. Remember we beat Aston Villa three times that season. It's a pleasure to know that Norwich will never achieve this they can't even win the FA cup sorry i missed the league title as well. Yes but they are a yo yo club.

Love it - would also love to see us return to the old badge permanently.

...shame we haven't got that many players worthy of wearing it.

Just heard thieves have broken into Norwich city's trophy room. Police are looking for a Green and Yellow carpet.

The yellow badge epitomises everything that is ITFC for me, so glad to see it back, feeling so PROUD and teary eyed, lets keep it on the shirts from now on!

For our away kit I'd love to see us return to the famous yellow shirts , with blue trim and blue shorts. ( like the Arsenal kit vs us at Wembley 78 ). It was our original away kit for many years And we have never used it since kit Rene weals came in.

I like kit. Love the badge, I will break a long held habit and buy it.

As we're in the 40th Anniversary year ArnieM I would have to go with the white and black trim away shirt this year, or if it has to be something other than white (because we can't afford a third kit), then the tangerine and black that season. I know we've had yellow away kits in the past but for me its just too Budgie now.

I'm luke warm on this one. It merely highlights the fact that we have won nothing since apart from promotions from the second tier. Should have retained the newest badge and kept the three stars. Also much prefer white shorts.
