Town Launch New Home Kit
Tuesday, 30th Jun 2020 14:26

Town have revealed their new home kit for the 2020/21 season which, as TWTD previously reported, is a tribute to the strip the Blues wore 40 years ago in 1980/81, the campaign widely regarded as the club’s greatest in which they won the UEFA Cup.

The shirts, produced by adidas as was the case in 1980/81, feature a one-year return of the badge worn in that era - which was replaced in 1995 - with the legend ‘UEFA Cup 40 years’ below it.

The inner back-neck of all home shirts feature Sir Bobby Robson's quote about that side, “This was my greatest Ipswich team, They were the perfect jigsaw.”

The traditional blue shirt is augmented by what the club is describing as a “seasonal change” to blue shorts, which were worn in the away leg of the final against AZ 67 Alkmaar in Amsterdam in which Town confirmed a 5-4 on-aggregate victory, as well as in the memorable away victories at St Etienne and Cologne in the semi-finals.

The socks are blue with a white trim, however, with the adidas three stripes blue rather than white as in recent seasons and in 1980/81.

The front of the shirt bears the Carers Trust logo, something gifted to the charity by sponsors Magical Vegas.

Carers Trust CEO, Gareth Howells told the club site: “We are thrilled to see unpaid carers recognised with the Carers Trust logo featured on such a special commemorative shirt. On behalf of all the unpaid carers we work with, I’d like to wish Ipswich Town every success for the new season.”

John O’Reilly, chief executive of Rank who own Magical Vegas, added: “We’re proud of our partnership with Carers Trust and we’re continually looking at ways in which we can further support the charity.

“We’re delighted that this sponsorship will shine a much needed spotlight on the fantastic work Carers Trust do in supporting unpaid carers across the UK.”

The new shirt will also feature the updated EFL name and number font as well as the logo of the EFL’s charity partner, Mind.

Fans can also have ‘Thank you NHS” added to the back of their shirts with all profits going to the Colchester and Ipswich Hospitals Charity.

The back of the shorts bear the Mortgagemove.co.uk brand. Company principle Nick Golding said: “We are delighted that the Mortgagemove.co.uk logo adorns the new kit which is a tribute to such a successful period in ITFC’s history.”

The kit can be preordered now from www.itfcshop.com with delivery as soon as they arrive at the club, late July at the latest, although the club say that is still to be confirmed due to the ongoing uncertainties caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Fans who preorder will also receive a set of six luxury postcards (worth £15) designed by illustrator George Ripton. Each postcard will depict a scene from the 80/81 UEFA Cup campaign.

Given the guidelines around social distancing and the advice given to retail stores, the pre-ordering is only available online.

Aren't gambling companies so community focused by putting a charity on the front? It shows they do care about the common man and makes me think twice about my misconceived thoughts that they are only interested in taking money from the most deprived communities and only having an interest in being profit driven. Well you live and learn and I'm going to log on and lose £500 quid right now and make sure I haven't got the money at the end of the month to pay the mortgage.

Really nice shirt and I'm glad we've got the old badge back too even if only for one season.
I much prefer the Yellow in our badge as opposed to Red.

Yeah like the kit and it's great to be honouring our history. Life's all about creating legacies and history, so to put it out there and bang on about it, specially in these more ‘sad' times gives you that wee bit of a feel good factor.

I love the shirt, especially the badge - great move. I can see a shirt being part of the 'refund' offers for Season Ticket holders.
I do wonder if we've seen the last of the 3 stars ***

Good kit, especially with that obnoxious Magical Vegas logo no where to be seen. Would have been even better if Adidas had used the old-school trefoil rather than the three stripes but oh well.

I wear a Town shirt virtually every day, I wear them to death so when a new one comes out I have to have it whether I like it or not.
I love this one.

Why not white shorts?

Like the shirt, don't like the reference to '81. Hope we can celebrate the 50th anniversary back in the Premier League.

Pete, some so called town 'fanatics' find it a lot easier to accept town being a joke, an irrelevant laughing stock, than others. I'm totally with you. The aforementioned never cease to amaze me, they blow my mind... 🤯🤯🤯

An awful lot of opinion on where we're at right now. It's a new strip, question is do we like it or not?! I think it's the best for years and anyone who thinks otherwise clearly need to blame Evans!😂

Sorry if I've missed it, but is there a new away kit this year?

Love the shirt but hate the way fans moan about Skuse, Chambers, Evans and Lambert. We should be lucky that we are in position to get promotion next season with whoever is selected and get behind the team rather than all the negative posts we get on this board at the moment.

Carlisle, its monty python stuff!! Criticised for negativity when we are at our lowest in 65 years! 😂 I show fans of others clubs these sort of messages and they just can't believe them. They say if their fans were in our boats there would be blue murder every day. Where's the passion and pride gone?!! Why so passive, apathetic and resigned? Try putting the fan back in fanatic...

Love this shirt best one for years , great to see the old badge back ( please keep it ) and the shade of blue is spot on . buuuuuut why the awful blue shorts got to be white , and I say it every year I would love us to wear white socks ,as we used to do many many years ago

And what on earth makes you think we are in a position to get promoted next season?!! We are more than likely to lose Woolfy or Downes after season tickets have been sold. I'd settle for safety personally, given our form this year.

Norwich have been using fake crowd noise for years there's no other way twenty six thousand card board cut outs could be responsible.

Behave Bluearmy. Most people just see this for what it is. A new kit. Not a chance to have yet another moan. Its simple when a new kit is released. Like it or not. That's it.

If your hobby is moaning about our demise then not an issue. At all. Just seriously, on a new kit thread. Have a rest.

You won't find one fan who is happy about where are. But just because everyone doesn't find the need to criticise the club on every news item doesn't mean they don't care. negativity breeds negativity.

So many people going on about how crap we are and how far we have fallen. It is embarrassing and we have totally under achieved this past couple of seasons and players, manager and owner should hang their heads in shame. Why are we going on about that rabble up north, they are about to get relegated. Let's start by getting behind this team and get us back to where we belong !! The new kit is fantastic and putting the carers trust on the front is a great idea by our sponsors. COME ON YOU BLUES

Pity they haven't gone for proper shorts instead of those baggy pantaloons that flap around the knees, if they want to pay homage. And quite why did they change the badge? The old one looks much better.

No Terry, strong feelings and passion brings action. Chronic apathy has contributed to us being where we are.

Like the shirt and the old badge . Not keen on all blue though. Don't understand that logic at all.

To me, the kit is just another way to generate revenue for the club so it is what it is. As long as its blue, I don't care.

What worries me is the lack of pride that most of the current wearers of this kit have for our wonderful club compared to those 40 years ago. I know football has changed so much in that time but I'd still expect 100% every game from those who pull on a Town shirt.

Love the shirt. Old badge is a nice touch and the embarrasing stars have gone. Shorts should be WHITE. They tried changing to blue a few years back but swiftly went back to white after much negativity from the fans saying we looked like chelsea.(I could be wrong, but I think it was when ME first took over).
