Town Launch Sustainable Away Kit
Thursday, 9th Jul 2020 14:15

Town have launched a new pale blue away kit for the 2020/21 season, which they say is their most sustainable ever with recycled waste having gone into the manufacturing process.

The kit is made using adidas’s Primeblue technology, featuring Parley Ocean plastic®, which is made from recycled waste intercepted from beaches and coastal communities reaching the oceans.

“With our fine county of Suffolk having such an expansive coastline, it’s key that we look to endorse and support the outstanding work which adidas and Parley For The Oceans are carrying out,” Town’s director of retail Lee Hyde, told the official club website.

“The global impact that this sustainable manufacturing process could have on the environment is monumental.

“Keeping our areas of outstanding beauty clean and waste-free is something we should all strive to achieve.”

He added: “Choosing a Primeblue playing kit which is made with Parley Ocean plastic® enables the club to play a very small part in assisting the efforts to clean up our oceans and promote a core focus on sustainability and recycling.”

In September 2018, Town partnered with Grange Community Primary School on a beach clean alongside Sky Ocean Rescue.

The new away shirt has a pale blue base colour, covering the shoulders, sleeves and deep ribbed v-neck and sleeve cuffs, and features an all-over graphic, which began life as a hand-painted design.

The adidas logo, three stripes, Town badge - the current one rather than the old one used on the home shirt - and Carers Trust logo are in a sharp blue.

The shorts and socks, also manufactured from Parley Ocean Plastic®, match the pale blue base colour of the shirt, with sharp blue adidas and club branding, and a white back of short sponsor logo of sponsor, Mortgagemove.co.uk.

Town say they have worked with the EFL’s partner to develop a bespoke colour of player name and number licensed font matched to the sharp blue colour of the contrast detailing.

Player worn shirts will also feature the ‘Thank You NHS’ back of shirt charity sponsor, also in sharp blue.

Town will have two alternative away goalkeeper kits. An all black strip with sharp blue contrast detailing to the v-neck and side panels of the shirt. As with the away shirt, the adidas branding, badge, sponsor logo and player name and numbers will be in the sharp blue contrast colour.

The third keeper kit option is an all coral-coloured outfit, with black branding as per the home goalkeeper kit. This option will be available to fans too and is likely to be launched with the away kit on general sale.

Fans can pre-order the brand new away kits now at www.itfcshop.com, for immediate delivery as soon as they are received by the club, which is likely to be late August.

Due to the current guidelines around social distancing and the advice given to retail stores, the full pre-order process is online only. Fans are not able to pre-order the new kit from the Planet Blue store which re-opened on Friday 3rd July.

Not what I was expecting but really like the look of it - don't see it being a massive issue with regards to clashing, its practically white and assume we'll use the Barca Mk2 kit as a third if needed.

Goalkeepers kit is naughty

What happens when you wash it - does plastic go back into the ocean

Other than that I like it -I suspect that my son who will be getting one, when its on sale after Christmas.

Decent. Not sure how many of our squad deserve to wear it YET

Have to agree with Stringer, the black goalkeepers should have been our away shirt choice.

Skipper must have been unavailable not being in the photo shoot perhaps he was busy consoling his mate who was not in either(home and away) what a refreshing change.

OMG the shirt's awful - like Marseille but with a horrible camouflage style print on it. Shorts and socks are ok, but I doubt they're big sellers in the club shop. GK kit is ok but looks like it's been branded by Ed Sheeran with the blue camouflage print down the side like his Divide album cover.

Maybe it's because I'm getting old now but it's not for me, I hate patterned shirts like that. I will say however that I love the idea of the recycled thread, I don't really care that much what any of the kit looks like, it's how we play football that is important to me.
Lets hope we hit the ground running and manage to keep running until the end of the season, with or without crowds. COYB.

I don't dislike it to look at and has some style. In one sense it is nice to have something different and new to remember rather then regurgitate a former shirt with a slightly different neck line.

But now the big however and question of practicality. On the tonal spectrum this is close to grey.

I think it was Manchester United who many years ago introduced an all grey kit, but scrapped it after a few games as the shirt got lost against the background of crowd and it was difficult to pick out team mates when passing etc.

Now I know we are not the biggest of sides but some kits which are quite vivid do give the impression of a more imposing side.

As I said I don't dislike it at all on the eye but will have to await what it looks like on a full field of play with a crowd in the stadium to judge if it is effective.

I qualify for GOM status and love it. Record shirt sales would certainly support the club at this difficult time, home & away for me!

Love it, I don't swear online...but I fooking love it. Ok sure Adidas make profit (?) From recycled waste but the education of damage that plastic waste creates by far out weighs that....think before you buy a ppastic bottle, food "kept fresh"(it isnt) wrapped in plastic...

Prefer the current “Barcelona” away kit to be honest although I do like the environmental/sustainability aspects of the new kit design. Maybe we should have gone for an all “pitch” green kit so opponents can't see our players on the field - might give us more chance of beating them!

This is a really good looking kit imo and the different colours of the badge is adventurous but works superbly. Hope we do get to wear it in most away games, but if the oppo are blue + white we might struggle. And yes, what is the 3rd kit if that happens, maybe as some have said, the black keeper shirt would work for that, it's a nice shirt too?!

The idea is good the final product is anemic like our football...

This kit is rubbish...literally. Looks like a BTEC Coventry kit. The only positive being that there is no cringeworthy launch video from the goons in ITFC's marketing department to accompany it.

Looks like a piece of tie-die sh*t you would buy from Camden Market.

Grim.

Awful looks like it came from primark and someone spilt bleach over it . Worst shirt since the blue shirt that faded down to white at the bottom (Steve Sedgley erea) but i expect the sprogs will like it.

This is obviously not going to clash with any team's blue kit..... why are people saying we'll need a third kit as "both of them are blue"? Get real

You will of course hsve the usual cynics and moaners but this kit is right on so many levels and I love it.

We need lots of positive energy to get us up this season so can we all please focus on this.

Thank you.
