Nydam Nearing Return to Action
Monday, 27th Jul 2020 18:52

Midfielder or full-back Tristan Nydam is targeting a return to action in October or November having been sidelined since July last year when he broke his right ankle and suffered ligament damage in a pre-season friendly at Notts County.

The 20-year-old underwent surgery the following month and then again in February as he missed the whole of the 2019/20 campaign.

“My ankle feels so much better than what it did before lockdown,” the former England U18 and U19 international told the club site.

“Due to the restrictions in place, I haven’t been able to use the gym so I’ve been working in the dome with the physios.

"It’s been a tough time but I've tried to stay positive. I think lockdown was actually a blessing in disguise as I haven’t missed out on any football and it has given me an extra three or four months to get my ankle right.

“With the league starting a month later than usual, it gives me more time to get back in the swing of things.

“I hope to be back on the grass by then though I’m not sure if that will be full training as it might be a bit too soon.

“I’ll be hoping to play some sort of games, whether that is 23s or first team by October/November time.”

Nydam is primarily considered a central midfielder, however, prior to his injury the Zimbabwe-born, Colchester-raised academy product had played most of last pre-season at left-back.

I thought he was a very good left tbh. Such a shame he got injured , but such was our luck last season.

Hopefully his injury worries are behind him now & he can go on to be the footballer we thought he was going to be when he broke into the first team squad. It's only 2 years since we saw a teenage midfield trio of Tristan, Flynn Downes & Andre Dozzell play a confident, passing game against West Ham in pre-season, and look like they were nearly ready to be regulars in the side. An unsuccessful loan spell & a bad injury really set the lad back, so he deserves some luck for the season ahead.

This chap deserves some good fortune for sure. He's been very unlucky and he could just be the answer for our left back slot. He certainly showed a lot of promise when he first burst on to the scene and looked comfortable at Championship level so could be a real asset in league One.
Good luck Tristan.

All our youngsters seem cursed. Dozzel, Lankester, Nydam all had really long nasty injuries.

Hope we see a fit TN back soon. Deserves it after a rough couple of seasons

Nasty injury! Be good to have Nydam back. Hopefully he can push on and stay injury free, good luck Tristan.

The club are going have to be very patient with Tristan because he is very slightly built and needs time to develop physically. Needs a long spell in the u23s followed by a loan spell when he is ready, but can't see the club risking that for quite a while yet.

A tidy & promising central midfield player. Us trying to turn him into a left back again shows the lack of real ability in that position. When he does return to first team action, bet it's as a wide midfield player or full back as we have way too many central midfield players.

That's excellent news. Our season depends upon the fitness of the squad that we have far more than new recruits in my opinion.

Good to have him on the way back will be like a new signing after being out so long.

Agree therein61. Add Lankester and a fit Dozzel and Bishop and we have some serious ball playing options....... just need a new cb preferably left footed and a new striker known for finding the back of the net and we are ready to go.....
