Blues target Richard Keogh is reportedly set to turn down offers from Town and other clubs to join the MK Dons.

On Monday, TWTD revealed that the Blues were targeting the former Derby County skipper but with a number of other sides also keen on the 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who is a free agent following his sacking by the Rams last October.

According to The Guardian, centre-half Keogh, who was an academy player with Town before being released at 16, has opted to join the MK Dons, who were 19th in League One in 2019/20, rather than the Blues and other clubs who made offers having been impressed by the Buckinghamshire club and manager Russell Martin.

Keogh is currently still sidelined with the knee injury he sustained when a passenger ex-Town loanee Tom Lawrence’s car in the drink-drive crash which led to his sacking and two-year driving bans for both the Wales international and team-mate Mason Bennett. He expects to be back in action in October.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Jonny Williams, 26, has taken up an option to extend his Charlton Athletic contract by a further 12 months.

Cakeman added 19:58 - Aug 6 What I find astonishing is how most clubs in league one are recruiting including Blackpool who not long ago were on the bones of their backsides not even being able to have enough players to fill the subs bench. Either we are putting our faith in who we have or potential new players do not see us as an attractive proposition anymore.

Its a gamble. Going off subject a bit, what is REALLY ANNOYING is that why oh why are we so slow and crap in the transfer market? Only 3 teams in league 1 haven't signed a player......and one of them is us! Of course it would be! Dont give me the crap about covid either as all the other teams have managed it. Who the hell sorts recruitment/transfers out? Do we employ a tortoise or sloth to handle transfers?

Remember Lee O'Neil saying it will be difficult to sign players as we have taken a financial hit etc.......... oh hang on? How comes 20 odd other teams in league 1 have managed it then? Its just starting to wear thin now, would love someone like O'Neil to explain in detail why we are so ponderous in the transfer market? Groundhog!

Just because MK have beaten us to the signing doesn't mean our club is inferior... - Keogh may have chosen MK for geographical reasons. - Maybe they offered more money (not sure we'd be throwing bags of cash at a 33 year old fringe player. MK may need him more and have offered a better package.) - Maybe he knows Russell Martin (not a huge age gap) and wants to play for him. - Maybe MK have guaranteed him first team football when fit, we probably couldn't do that. Maybe they've offered him a captaincy role? There are so many reasons a player may choose one club over another. There's no evidence we even made an offer. Let's open our minds a little before finding any stick to beat the club with.

Perhaps they are all getting players signed on nice contracts so that when they vote on Friday to impose a wage cap these contracts won't count as they were done before the decision was made. One way to shackle the clubs with bigger support and resources

Dissboyitfc added 07:21 - Aug 7 I for one don't want us signing any old player for the sake of it! This guy would have been a gamble no doubt about that. I am not sure of the quality that's being signed by other clubs. We do have a capable squad in this division but require 3 quality additions! So let's not panic just yet, one position we definitely need is a left LB, are the powers that be waiting to see how the Garbutt situation pans out? But again I don't want us to rush out and sign any old crap! KVY was a quality signing more like him please.

martin587 added 08:13 - Aug 7 Patience is a virtue 🤔but HOW long is a virtue.We don't want players over thirty that are injury prone so no big lose there.I don't have a great deal of faith in PL but I feel sure he will get in the quality we need in time for KO.Only time will tell if I'm right or wrong.🤫

rabbit added 08:15 - Aug 7 It is always very suspect to jump to conclusions and try and compare, what is a reality is that ITFC have released very few players whilst all other teams that were in the league last season have all released several more. A lot of thought has to go into the size of the squad, do people want the rotation policy again in an attempt to keep players happy or a smaller more compact and together squad? I don't pretend to have the answers but I'm certainly not depressed by the current lack of transfer activity at the moment.

gosblue added 11:17 - Aug 7 Agreed Linkboy13. We'd be stupid to offer anything more than a six month contract with options. We need to have 3 or 4 decent, fit CBs at the start of the season with our own yoof pushing for squad places. A similar strategy for every position is a must; ie 2 RBs, 2 LBs, 4 strikers etc.
