Morris Suffers Second ACL Injury
Monday, 10th Aug 2020 14:25

TWTD understands Town striker Ben Morris has suffered an ACL injury in training, only eight months after returning to action following a similar injury.

The 21-year-old had been one of the young players tipped to make an impression on the first team in the season ahead but now potentially faces missing the entire 2020/21 campaign.

The news is a huge blow to the Colchester-born academy product, who was sidelined with his previous ACL injury, also sustained in training in January 2019.

Morris, who along with fellow young strikers Aaron Drinan and Ben Folami has been training with the first team, eventually returned to action with the U23s in December last year but wasn’t involved with the first team before the season was curtailed due to the coronavirus.

Confirming the injury, physio Matt Byard told the club site: “Ben has sadly re-torn his cruciate ligament.

“He is seeing a specialist next week and we will take it from there but obviously it will mean an extensive recovery period.”"

Prior to his injury, Morris, who is contracted to the Blues until next summer with the club having an option for a further season, had made one senior start and four sub appearances without scoring.

The England U17, U18 and U19 international has also spent spells on loan at Woking and Forest Green Rovers.

Poor lad! What kind of training do we do that these injuries occur? Is this very bad luck or bad management? I don't know the answer.

Let's hope Town can ensure he gets only the very best advice and treatment to effect a certain and full recovery this time around .

Terrible news for the lad. Tough to recover fully the first time, so this will be a real test, which I'm pure he will pass.

At his age this is not uncommon but it is so sad for the lad. His head will be all over the place so the club and fans must support him.

Stay strong Ben Morris you have the makings of a great footballer!! Not going to call him a lad or a kid, although he's 35 ish years younger than myself. Hope it works out well when he gets over it.

Sorry guys but he's another one like Bishop and Dozzell loads of promise and a cracking player when he actually gets on the pitch which is about twice a season.

How many more sicknotes are we going to keep who contribute nothing ???

I'm gutted for the lad but like i said - made of glass, get rid

Seriously can't believe how many people are marking me down for saying i'd get rid of a player who, by the time he gets back will have been injured for 2 and a half years !!!

even if by some miracle the likes of Bishop, Dozzell and Morris could spend more than 5 minutes out of the treatment room between them they'd only sit on the bench and watch Cole Skuse pass it backwards anyway

Really feel for him. With the salary cap for league 1 & 2 now in place this season was going to be vital for players of his age but now that could have been taken away from him. I just hope he manages to recover fully enough to still have a good career in the game

Oh no, just seen this. So sorry for Ben. Everything crossed that Lancaster and Nydam will have better luck.

Such bad luck to have 3 promising talents out at the same time, then double bubble for one.

Terrible luck for him and the club. Please not another difficult season of underperformance on the pitch or on the treatment table off it! We desperately need to have the likes of KVY, Lankester, Nydam, Bishop and Norwood fit and firing on all cylinders if we are to mount a promotion push this season.

Not seen any news on Alan Judge - is he staying or going?
