Stoke and Birmingham Linked With Jackson
Monday, 10th Aug 2020 15:17

Stoke City and Birmingham City are the latest two clubs reported to be keen on Blues striker Kayden Jackson.

Last month, it emerged that the 26-year-old had rebuffed Town’s offer of improved terms with Championship clubs said to be eyeing him.

As previously reported, Blackburn Rovers showed interest in January, while newly-reported Coventry City had been linked along with League One Peterborough United, who came close to signing him prior to his move to Portman Road.

Now Football Insider claim Birmingham and Stoke are both showing interest in the Bradford-born frontman, who joined the Blues from Accrington Stanley for £1.6 million in the summer of 2018.

Jackson, Town’s joint-top scorer on 11 in 2019/20 alongside James Norwood, is currently contracted until the summer of 2021 with the club having an option for a further season so there is currently no urgent need to tie him down to extended terms, while there seems little scope to do so at present given the limits of the salary cap.

Despite turning down the new deal, the striker is understood to be happy at the club and in no hurry to move on.

Similarly, Town owner Marcus Evans is understood to have no plans to sell any of the club’s prized assets this summer, while the constraints of the salary cap would make it difficult for the Blues to sign a replacement.

With the salary cap coming in, and existing players having been defined a wage of £2k a week, it would be terrible business to sell any player earning more at this stage.

I was in favour of selling Jackson and getting in a centre forward more suited to playing up front on his own. But this salary cap nonsense means that makes no business sense now so I'd hold on to him.

Sell him he's well overrated, first touch is awful. Get around 3 mill, bring in Danny Graham on a free and the Bristol Rovers guy for around 1 Mill and bag 2 mill profit, sorted. Oh and spend the change on a centre half, providing Mr Evans allows the moths to escape his wallet first !

Gforce... so you're saying he is overrated but you want £3M for him? Double what we paid for him? I personally want Jackson to stay and form a constant, consistent partnership with Lambert. That's why I think he is very coy on his future, as Lambert's rotation policy is ridiculous!! He works hard, albeit isn't the most prolific finisher, but I would rather give him another season. 1 season is nothing to judge now, look at Kieffer Moore for example!!

I obviously meant form a partnership with Norwood😂 ^^^

Iantaylorx.... If it was Peterborough doing the selling they would probably demand 10 million. But I agree with the Kieffer Moore situation, even if he is a poor man's Peter Crouch

Sell him for whatever we can get for him. As soon as a player has his head turned by a "bigger" club they're worse than gone anyway!

Seems to be a lot of clubs interested in him even though he's not rated by the majority of numpties on here ,but still there's always free scoring Freddy Sears.

We're in a bit of a mess, aren't we? Maybe with a dose of humility we can morph into the little club that bucks the trend à la Fleetwood, Wycombe et al. Sad days, but Naarwich are now in prime position to cement a spot as the premier team in Anglia - not that I'll ever grant them that title of course.

I'm not sure if anyone who's not being positive bout Jackson have actually seen him play? Great energy and enthusiasm, good assists and 11 goals. Who are we going to get in to improve things? If the statue of the clubs who are apparently interested is anything to go by, then is he really that bad. Think not!

When Freddie actually plays up front rather than wide left he scores.

If we got our money back on Jackson I'd sell if we haveb replacement lined up 1st

Freddie went over 30 games without scoring which is poor by anyone's standards. That's why he was given a different role in the team. I know he was coming back from injury last season but he looked a yard off the pace. We all luv Freddie but there's no room for sentiment in football.

Keiffer Moore could have been here 7 years and it would not have worked out well. Certain Players are suited and thrive at certain clubs. Only top notch players do well wherever club they find themselves at. Not many of them about. Most Footballers find distractions and it weaken them. Once strong minds are then less hungry to improve. Some think they've made it way too early and never really do.

We can't afford to sell anyone as can't replace with salary cap.

The reason that players play well at certain clubs is because they play them to the player's strengths. You can't just buy a player who scores 40 goals a season and put them in your team and expect them to score 40 goals a season if you don't play them the way they want to play. You need to look at why they scored the 40 goals and play to their strengths and feed them the ball how they want it so they can score the goals.

IT'S SIMPLES!!

In terms of the salary cap - the only players we could afford to move on would be one of our plethora of midfielders as no replacement would be necessary. For this season, we have £1.3m in cap space but it would be a risk to fill it, fail to get promoted then be screwed and have to give people away next summer.

I like Jackson. If he wants to stay then I hope we get even more out of him this season. If he wants to go, I hope we make a profit on him

Why bother selling him if we can't reinvest the cash because of the salary cap? Makes no sense. We'd be better off hoping he scores 15-20 goals and gets us promoted.

woodster added 12:03 - Aug 11
Spot on BlueBlood - the club may have excess cash from bigger crowds (than our peers) & sale proceeds of our best players but can only buy players on a fraction of the wages now - the whole salary cap should be based on a % or revenues, not the lowest common denominator - it's crazy (might be great for Evans tho - he can use the excess revenues to collect the £80-£90m of debt owed to himself!

Jackson would look at whole lot better if we created more, I've watched Toney a few times and if you think he bangs in every chance he gets then you'd be hugely mistaken, but they create a lot more than we do, this is what we need to address, then you will find Jackson will relax more in and around the box and look more confident..
