Town Reject Bournemouth Bid For Jackson - Reports
Tuesday, 8th Sep 2020 14:59

Town are reported to have rejected a £2 million offer from AFC Bournemouth for striker Kayden Jackson.

According to Football Insider, the Cherries see Jackson, who was Town’s joint-top scorer with 11 goals last season, as a potential replacement for Callum WIlson, who has joined Newcastle United and have tabled a £2 million bid - although the offer is reported to be £1 million elsewhere - which has been rebuffed.

Town are said to want a bigger fee for the 26-year-old, who is contracted until next summer with the Blues having an option for a further season. Over the summer Jackson turned down the offer of a contract extension.

Since then, various Championship clubs have been linked with the striker, who joined Town from Accrington Stanley for £1.6 million in the summer of 2018, including Coventry, Stoke City and Birmingham City.

As previously reported, Blackburn showed interest in January when League One Peterborough were also said to be keen, while we understand Luton Town have also been monitoring the Bradford-born frontman’s situation.

Town owner Marcus Evans is understood to have no plans to sell any of the club’s prized assets this summer, however, both he and manager Paul Lambert have previously admitted that offers can be received which the club can’t turn down.

The situation is complicated by the constraints of the salary cap which would make it difficult for the Blues to recruit a replacement for Jackson were he to be sold.

Jackson missed Saturday’s season opener against Bristol Rovers due to a groin problem which he picked up during pre-season.

Joke. Expect him to leave and having not completely proved himself, £3m would be nice !

Problem is we cannot reinvest, so is any money worth it ?

Wouldn't sign a new contract and now an offer comes in. I'm not expecting to see Jackson in a Town shirt again. Will Grigg on loan anyone?

Jackson seems to getting a lot of interest from other clubs, even though he's not rated by some of the numpty experts on here, must be worth at least 4 million, Evans will be rubbing his hands.

He won't play for town again. Maybe we can play Freddie in his preferred position. Much better goal scorer. Step up freddie.

Under normal circumstances I'd be happy to let him off for the £1.6m we paid for him, but the salary cap complicates things big time in terms of replacing him. He is not a centre forward, not a great finisher &, despite his pace, has not shown any potential as a wide striker in 4-3-3, which I thought would have suited him.
He will score goals at League 1 level, just not as many as he should, & Bournemouth will be in for a huge disappointment if they think he is the man to replace an excellent finisher in Callum Wilson.

PortmanTerrorist that's the stupid issue with that salary cap! Could sell for a decent fee but whoever came in would be on the minimal budgets.

I hope they come back with another bid–this is decent money for a player who hasn't torn up any trees.

hasnt set the world on fire, .I would not be too sorry if he went elsewhere, Norwood same IMO . Freddie is capable of a good goal tally,if used properly.,if players are not 100% up for playing for Town , move em on .

As others have said I doubt he'd be missed if a bigger offer were to be made. For me he has not exactly set the world on fire since his arrival. My only worry would be if he were to go does it leave us short up front.I doubt very much Norwood will be here come the end of this year.I just hope PL is searching for another frontman.

No loss if he went.
11 goals in L1 is hardly pulling up trees.
Alot still to prove.

No point selling as we can't replace him, even with a big fee !
If it wasn't for the salary cap I'd say 4m and he's yours !
Cue time off to clear his head !

Im normally all for players being given the opportunity to move onwards and upwards and make the most of their careers......Terry Butcher and Super Matty Holland being examples. But......this is normally on the basis a player has proved their ability and worth (and hopefully shown a bit of loyalty in the process). Downes and Jackson have done neither. Given the current circumstances with the salary cap etc.....i think the club are well within their rights to hold onto the players, get them to put their best foot forward or sit it out in the changing rooms. Far too many spoilt pandered professionals out there who need to get to grips with the real world

The salary cap is the thing. Otherwise I'd snap their arm off. Think there may well be stong loan options out there.

If Freddie plays up top and you add the emergance of Drinnan do we need Jackson? See both sides on this but i havent seen anything from him that suggests he is worth 2 million quid

I'd definitely take 2m, but as others have said, no point if we can't replace him, especially with young Morris injured and Lankester only just getting fit.
Who's to say he wouldn't have ended on 15+ goals last season? There were games left I'd have fancied him to score in.

He's got pace but have to say he's average in league one and nowhere near good enough for the championship. Sell him for £2m. Hurst overpaid got all his lower league journeymen. There are players like Folami, Lankester, Simpson et al who are potentially better and at least as good.

Some eminently sensible analysis here ; salary cap needs scrapping entirely ( let clubs prove they know how to handle their business properly , if they fail etc !) and Jackson hasn't unfortunately looked terribly aware or even technically good on or with the ball .
We DO need goals however ,and however they come along ,so the sooner we can be convinced the youngsters are fit and developing their potential the more real options become available .

He will probably suit Bournemouth. Fee of 5m + and 15+ goals and if promoted add ons :-)

For once we are sitting pretty with money as they have just got in 40m for Ake and 20m for Wilson all banked.
I see that clubs are involved in a bidding war with 20k being on the table for Josh King as well, so they are desperate for a striker.
If ever there was an opportunity to make over the odds for an unproven striker its now.

So lots of scouts have watched him and recommended him to their clubs and serious investments considered. However, because fans have seen him in a struggling team devoid of creativity we write him off based on 11 goals last season. Perhaps it's Ipswich and PL not getting the best out of our players? I think we should keep hold of anyone decent as we cannot replace and any cash will be off-set against losses. As for the "Freddy can do it" comments, whilst I'd want Freddie to do it, he can't on his own and may get injured again leaving us with Drinan & Hawkins as our only options for those wanting rid of Jackson & Norwood. Difficult times ahead with unhappy players needing motivating by PL as it's our only option.

Monkey Blue - I think the salary cap works in that as he's already on the books his salary is £100K in the calculation although it's highly likely he's on a lot more but any new signing would have to have 100% of wages counting. So if we paid 10K a week that's 20% of our budget on one player and squad would need to be trimmed further. I only think that's how it works. I'm no expert.

I would take the money , not good enough for championship League 1 his level , he doesnt want to be here and we are making money - absolute no brainer . With the four strikers we have in Sears , Drinian , Norwood and Watkins have cover , Judge / Lankester can also play in a front two and if not get a good youngster on loan with the money

take it.... a lot of money for a donkey

Why do we always get mugged off with offers for our players

I'd sell him for 2-3 million. Bournemouth will get a shock at how cr@p he is compared to Callum Wilson. Has never looked much here. Well over rated. League 1 or 2 at best. Nothing more. Trouble is we can't reinvest the money. What a stupid bl00dy rule this cap is. Can only get sh!te in for sh!te money. It's ridiculous.

i'd say we need Norwood and Jackson, if one goes ok but we can't afford to lose both.
They both had a reasonable goal to game ratio in the shortened season.
