Sears Returns as Hawkins Misses Out
Saturday, 17th Oct 2020 14:18

Freddie Sears returns to the Town starting XI in place of Oli Hawkins in an otherwise unchanged side for this afternoon’s home game against Accrington Stanley.

Hawkins, who has started the last three games, appears to have picked up a knock having not been included in the 18.

It's expected that Sears will start in one of the wide roles with Alan Judge playing centrally as a false nine in the absence of out-and-out strikers Hawkins, James Norwood, Aaron Drinan and Kayden Jackson, also missing from the 18, presumably due to a fitness concern.

Myles Kenlock again starts at left-back in the absence of Stephen Ward, who is out with an achilles injury.

Jon Nolan is back after his calf problem and is on the bench, alongside recent loan signings Mark McGuinness and Keanan Bennetts, and young striker Tyreece Simpson.

Accrington also make one change with defender Michael Nottingham handed his full debut following his recent move from Blackpool for forward Ryan Cassidy.

Town: Holy, Chambers (c), Nsiala, Wilson, Kenlock, Dozzell, Huws, Bishop, Judge, Sears, Edwards. Subs: Cornell, Woolfenden, McGuinness, Nolan, Lankester, Bennetts, Simpson.

Accrington: Savin, Nottingham, Hughes, Burgess, Sykes, Butcher, Russell, Pritchard, Uwakwe, Bishop, Conneely (c). Subs: Baxter, Allen, Cassidy, Barclay, Rodgers, Scully, Mohammed. Referee: Robert Lewis (Shrewsbury).

This injury situation just goes on and on. Getting ridiculous. Does any other EFL club come anywhere near us?

It is good to see a settled team selection. I assume that Hawkins has some sort of niggle to not be included. I am hoping for a good win today. COYB!

It's very tempting to ask again ‘ what goes on ‘ ? -but we have to accept the status quo, get out there ,play well and do justice to the Club and supporters .I feel sure that'll be the aim this afternoon and FS is nobody's fool wherever he's asked to play , and we know from past performances can well act as the foil for others ,and has shown he knows where the goal is .
Given the results this season we ought to be ebullient and confident whenever a game comes along !
Looking forward to another good result and pleasing reports .

Oioihardy. Many clubs have injuries. Not just us. Has nothing to do with sports science or anything. Fact is if u play sports u can get injured.

We could struggle for goal scoring opportunities today with that side, particularly if Accrington sit on Dozzell & block off Bishop's runs. Could be a very tricky game.

False 9 approach won't work. Expect Bennett on and Freddie or Simpson up top. Should be made for Freddie but actually Simpson is probably a better fit to the system.

Hope am completely wrong and judge gets a hatrick. COYB

We moan about our sports science, but someone getting a kick or straining knee ligaments or doing an acl in a game, or even training is hardly the fault of physio's etc is it. The time it takes them to get fit again - well that's another story.

Oh my word...No strikers !!!
looks like a 4-1-5-0 formation.
Need for a more patient and considered build up getting the ball wide and getting some of those players into the box to create the scoring opportunities.
Should still have enough if we play the right way

These injuries are getting a bit silly now. Yes, I know what with any sport there is always that risk, but we do seem to be getting a lot more over the past few years. Cold it be the surfaces they train on, their diet, too much/not enough training? Something just isn't right somewhere. Anyhow, we will win today, and that will be what matters. COYB

I'm sorry but Judge as the lone striker with Edwards dumped back on the right and Sears on the left??? Is Lambert for real??? A shuffle of that front line with Sears up top Edwards left and Judge right. FFS!!!!!
