McCarthy Set For APOEL Nicosia
Friday, 30th Oct 2020 13:36

Former Blues boss Mick McCarthy is close to being appointed the new manager of Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia.

McCarthy, 61, left his previous job as head coach of the Republic of Ireland - his second stint in the role - in April. He left the Blues after five and a half years in April 2018.

A tweet from APOEL revealed McCarthy would watch their weekend fixture and hold talks.

“The company APOEL Football informs that it expects the Irish coach Mick McCarthy tomorrow in Cyprus, so that the discussions regarding the possibility of cooperation are completed,” it read.

“Mr McCarthy will be at the GSP Stadium to watch the APOEL-Apollon match.”

McCarthy was the one who had to pick up the pieces when the money was gone and all that was left was a shambles and an owner who had spent to succeed and failed. He turned us into an average Championship side flirting with the play offs on very little or no money. That was an achievement. The problem was once again with the owner who thought he could run a business with a puppet administrator and a manager. McCarthy went tilt because he wasn't being managed, nobody had the balls or the credibility to take him to one side and tell him his temperament and actions were unacceptable. O'Neill should have told him the football should be more entertaining and expansive but who would take any notice of the boy who put out the cones for the academy. Then when he leaves the owner goes on about playing better football. Mismanagement or non existent management is at the root of all our problems and the buck stops with one man.

Blimey there's some long mundane posts on here. The past is as it means, The past! I know it's tricky when most of us remember a lot better days. Got to move on though
