Dozzell Red Card Appeal Unsuccessful
Thursday, 5th Nov 2020 16:26

Town’s appeal against Andre Dozzell’s red card at Sunderland on Tuesday has failed and the midfielder now faces a three-game ban.

The 21-year-old was dismissed by referee Peter Wright in the 72nd minute of the Blues’ 2-1 defeat at the Stadium of Light for a challenge on former Town skipper Grant Leadbitter.

Town boss Paul Lambert was furious about the decision - as well as the award of the penalty which won the Black Cats the game - and vowed to appeal after the match.

The Blues supplied video evidence but were unable to convince the FA’s Regulatory Commission that a wrong decision had been made.

Dozzell will now miss Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Portsmouth and the league games against Shrewsbury and Hull City.

The former England U20 international is available for Tuesday’s Papa John’s Trophy tie at Crawley.

Jon Nolan, who was red-carded in the League One game at Lincoln, is available from Saturday having completed his three-match suspension.

Very unfair..the FA never go against the ref !

As expected. It did look a little wreckless, although impossible to tell exactly from the one angle we saw. He picks up a lot of bookings, something to be looked at..

Why would they and make them confess that they had made a mistake. Absolute joke!

They can't admit it was wrong! Maybe they should be able to limit the ban to say one match if its marginal.
I'm sad for Dozzy but it will give him a rest and see what Huws or Nolan can do in his place.

Unfortunately the FA only intervene if the disputed decision went against a big PL team.

I don't think his reaction helped him. He should just have helped Leadbitter up and got on with things. All pretty silly, though.

Absolute joke of a decision. You have to fear for the future of football in this country with such an incompetent governing body and piss-poor standard of refereeing in the lower leagues. Kills any enjoyment from watching the game.

Such an absolute f*cking joke, this appeals process. Why is it even an option?

At least they didn't lengthen the ban...

How very unusual !! it's a group conspiracy , let's all protect each other's backs ; with ANY scintilla of doubt then set logic aside , support the status quo – and on no account discuss the detail or logic of the decision .either the original OR that of the panel !
Having watched it time and again , admittedly only via the You- Tube , it's exceptionally difficult to see it as a red card ( but was the Ref tired of whistling against each side , and felt compelled , rightly or wrongly, to re - exert his influence ?)
It's all shrouded in mystery ,and shouldn't be ; we live now in an educated , interested and intelligent world : controversy is part and parcel of football ( and sport ) , but the PGMO seem determinedly set in their ways !
Bad luck AD and ITFC ; however AD you do need to improve your fitness and timing ,and control the emotions generally ,focussing always on the very best contributions you can make and the influence you can bring to ITFC and your performance .

Arc. What are you on about? What reaction? The only reaction he showed was astonishment when shown the red card.

I wonder if the FA are also running the US election.... unorganized, chaotic and can't come to the right decision

Waste not a moment's more time chewing over the incompetent ‘suits' supporting their inept employee.

Learn any lessons and move on; it's the future that matters. But we shouldn't be totally surprised if we fall victim to future bizarre officials' decisions. Hopefully, over the course of the season, they will even themselves out. Expecting the FA to admit that the standard of Div 1 officials needs attention/improving is a misty-eyed dream!

The EFL blazers closed-ranks with their inept referee. Bumbling incompetent amateurs. It's no wonder English football only became successful when the top-flight split and formed the Prem. Can we move to Premier Leagues 1-4 instead?

No bad thing that Doz rests up a bit. Hes played alot of football since the season started following massive downtime recovering from serious injury.

Not surprised.

Gives another player a chance to make their mark on the team but Doz will be a big loss.

Joke of a decision yes it was a card but a red really. Saying that the penalty was probably even more ridiculous 🙄

How sad to have to travel all that way and then
be on the end of those two appalling decisions.

In isolation it maybe was a red card but no yellows for the 13 fouls before committed by Sunderland quite obviously were not taken into account. The referees a w*nker !

Everyone watch the incident again. Dozzell is blatantly shoved from behind by the Sunderland player. There is no way that was a red card. Admittedly the ref only gets to see it once, and could make a mistake, but the FA get to see it as many times as they want. If they didn't overturn the decision it means they didn't even watch it. I doubt they take any appeal seriously if it is by a League One club. If that had been Liverpool or Man City it would have been overturned in an instant. This incident is absolutely ridiculous and the FA should be ashamed.

I'm a thick sod and knew it wasn't worth appealing. We haven't been a moaning club in the past (Well to a degree) Let's not start now we are below blooming average!!!!!!

Like the ridiculous Nsiala sending off against Wednesday a couple seasons ago, the appeal wasn't successful because “the referee saw the incident” so there was no dispute to be had. As if that's a valid reason!

There's no point ever appealing a red card, unless somehow the ref manages to give the wrong player the red card or something even more bizarre.

An ex player who seems to dislike us now dived and made most of it then scores a penalty that should never have been given... They were never going to overturn it and agree they Ref WAS SH.. ITE

Leadboots wasn't play acting. Dozzell has a lot to learn. Putting it about and being a hard nut means going in for the ball on a fifty fifty with eyes on the ball, not hurting the opponents with niggly, nasty back handed moves. He's a good player but will get booked and sent off regularly until he learns.
