Lambert Hopes Break Will Give Players Time to Recover
Thursday, 12th Nov 2020 17:51

Boss Paul Lambert hopes Town’s rare break from match action will give the numerous players carrying injuries time to recover before the Blues face three crucial home games in eight days.

This weekend’s scheduled match at Blackpool was played a month ago in the previous international break with Town running out 4-1 victors.

With no midweek game scheduled for next week, the Blues don’t have a fixture until Shrewsbury visit on Saturday 21st November with Hull City at Portman Road on the following Tuesday and Charlton on the next Saturday.

"We have a lot of knocks with the first-team guys," Lambert told iFollow Ipswich. "We have so many people injured and carrying things.

"Hopefully that will give us time to recover. We had 120 minutes at the weekend and a lot of niggly knocks there.

"We have three games in that week so we have to make sure everybody is OK for that.”

Midfielders Flynn Downes and Cole Skuse (both knee), right-back Kane Vincent-Young (achilles) and striker Aaron Drinan (thigh) are all sidelined, while James Norwood made his return from his hamstring injury against Portsmouth and Tristan Nydam is continuing his rehab from his broken ankle and torn ligaments.

Speaking after Tuesday's Papa John's Trophy tie at Crawley, Lambert said only a very few players had trained that day with a number of others suffering with knocks.

"We’ve got so many injuries back home," he said. "An unbelievably small group trained this morning."

Ideal opportunity during the break to show them film footage of how successful teams attack, create and score, in the oppositions half. Then go out and practice it.

jonwillpot: Wonder what the betting would be on Liverpool's players recovering quicker than our players?

4 players there that would make a huge difference.

A club that went through a full division one season and competed in the FA Cup/League Cup and European cup games. To now being a club that quickly exits every cup competition asap and struggling to get through a League One season with a full squad .

It is a terrible injury situation and we all feel frustrated, so never mind Paul with this injury crisis, have a tinker with what you have and maybe (after many defeats in league one) with all opposition teams being helped by match officials decision's you can try again for promotion and staying in ALL the cups for a bit longer next year but you are fully vindicated again because of all the injuries all the games and all the match officials....

Perhaps the roatation policy is to blame along with not playing enough games to get properly match fit.

Won't see any of thsoe palyers until 2021. Achilles don't heal overnight or knees. Bluff and nonsense from our "leader"

Never mind we won't win another game in November and Lamberty will have 2021 to look for a neew job with a "big" club.

Biggest squad in the division and more injuries than any other club. I'm not sure how they train them at playford Rd but they seem to crock one every week. Either that or they really are the wusses they seem to be. I've literally forgotten if KVY is that good a player or if it's just a myth it's been so long. At the end of the day, what's he actually played in 2 years for us, 12 games? Norwood has never got going from day one. Huws definitely is just a myth as he has done nothing from the time he signed a full time contract. Lambert saying we need a break for all the knocks, ridiculous, three quarters of them haven't played for 2 weeks now. Bunch of wet farts the lot of them.

Not saying that there hasn't been a lot of games lately but he did field a reserve side in the FA Cup and then the under 12's in the Pizza Cup. So the last time a lot of the first team played was on the 3rd November. You would think they were working down the pits for 12 hours a day the way they bleat on.

Surely we must see at least Jackson and Norwood next week!!!!!!

Can we have an APB for KVY please-----not been seen or heard of for ages.

Would it be possible to have a weekly bulletin from the club on injuries-----or have we got that long?

Lambert seems to luv it when we are not playing any excuse not to play. Bet his attitude would be different if we were on a winning streak.

All clubs suffer with a spate of injuries from time to time. I reckon that we have just been unlucky.

Even so, we could have played a few more first teamers against Crawley.

Betty blue. You really do talk the biggest load of bull. How are the injuries due to the rotation system? He hasnt been rotating the squad this season, othercthan for cup games. And they are picking up these knocks not bcse of lack of fitness but from contact within games. That's why these players hes talking about have "knocks", not muscle injuries. The only muscle injury we have right now is drinan, and that happened in the 1st game of the season. Downes injury is down to his impetuous tackling, kvys, is from last season , skuse has had a knee op. So instead of just spouting rubbish, why not get the facts 1st. Oh no, so called fans like you arent interested in facts, are u?

I am not sure that bleating every time you play more than one game a week really helps Lamberts (or any other professional football manager) cause any good.
They are in such a privileged position playing a sport for a living and getting paid pretty well for doing so.
They have fitness coaches, nutritionist to ensure they are fit to play, not like back in the day where they had to sprint up and down the terraces, or through sandpits towing tyres for fitness.
Let us not forget that only 2 of the starting XI from the L1 game played the 120 mins in the cup tie, and then only 2 of those played in the PJ/EFLT game with PL using 32 players...surely these professional sportsmen cannot be tired, if so they are doing something wrong in training !!!
Fans who have to work long hours for 5, 6 or even 7 days a week do not want to hear that these poor prima-donnas are tired !!!
That is not just this club but every professional club !!!
