Blue Action Call For Lambert Exit
Thursday, 26th Nov 2020 09:56

Town independent supporters group Blue Action have called for the sacking of manager Paul Lambert and last night hung a banner across Playford Road’s gates to that effect.

The banner states “Lambo - Cheers for the beers but it’s time at the bar” with Lambo amended to Shambo.

In his first season at the club as he sought to build bridges with fans, Lambert bought pre-match pints for supporters in the FanZone ahead of a number of matches.

Lambert also invited members of Blue Action and other groups to the training ground to talk about improving the atmosphere at home matches.

Blue Action had been formed at the start of the 2018/19 season with the aim of enhancing the atmosphere at Portman Road via banners, stickers and the introduction of new songs and more recently have produced a fanzine. They outlined their position regarding Lambert's future in a statement.

Fans’ calls for a change of manager have increased in volume since Tuesday’s 3-0 home defeat to leaders Hull City with the Blues, who have lost six of their last nine in all competitions, having dropped to fifth in the table and fears that this season is turning into a repeat of 2019/20, in which Town started promisingly before fading into mid-table, growing.

Supporters have already begun to discuss who they would like to take charge at Portman Road on the TWTD Forum and on social media with former midfielder Kieron Dyer and ex-Portmouth and Wigan boss Paul Cook the names most frequently cited.

Fans, currently unable to attend matches, have also made contact with the club via email and tweet making their thoughts on the current position clear.

Lambert is contracted for five years having signed a new deal on New Year's Day.

I shared the optimism expressed by Blue Action last season and loved the way they orchestrated a better atmosphere in Portman Road. I welcomed the way Lambert related to the Town fans and thought he did an excellent job in this respect.
However, I agree wholeheartedly with Blue Action's message and believe that we are inevitably stumbling towards failure once again this season. Something is wrong with the coaching, we have young players with potentially bright futures but they are being put under pressure by unnecessarily negative comments from the manager. The inflexibility once we take the pitch and things start to go wrong does not help. For instance the situation against Hull was crying out for another striker to play alongside the excellent Norwood.
We have been extremely unlucky to lose a whole midfield plus other key players through injury. One must have some sympathy for the manager on this point. Nevertheless, we have reached a stage where we know, if nothing changes, we will face a future of wallowing in the third tier of English football. Action is needed and fast.

Prob is people who will we get in instead evans doesn't want to spend any money so won't get any one on relatively big wages and will be no transfer kitty for them and we aren't exactly an exciting proposition For anyone are we no decent players will sign for us anyway what can he or anyone else for that matter do to really change
Things ??

There are plenty of free agents out there: Danny Cowley, Eddie Howe, Nigel Pearson, Sam Allardyce (maybe not), and that's just a few British managers without looking overseas. We need to either play our way out or punch our way out of this league and right now we are doing neither. Evans (once again) needs to make a tope level decision and maybe he will get it right this time.

Plenty of good available managers available at the moment. Eddie Howe, Pearson, Crowley - just a pity that we are a L1 club with an owner who has a reputation for not funding.

Having joined the call for Bobby Robson's dismissal in the early 70s, I am always reluctant when it comes to sacking managers!
Having said that, it does not look as if PL has what it takes to make us the force we should be at this level - he's had time.
Like others I think the 'no fans' scenario has saved him, it's getting more like the end of MM's time with the gap between manager and fans widening.
I can't see ME changing anything but at least he, PL and the players will be more aware of the discontent among many fans.

Here we go again.
We had Mickma, Mick McCarthy and Terry Connors turning into McCarthy Out! Before that, it was Paul "Breath of Fresh Air" Jewell, Keano... At the first game I went to, the shout was "Robson Out!" The only managers who weren't hounded out were Burley - who got us up to the Prem but didn't know how to keep us there, Magilton, who was using us to learn how to manage, and Royle, who came close but most of the players were on loan.
Do people not understand that the long term future of the club depends on bringing through young players, and inevitably they will find it difficult at first playing against older, more experienced pros.
The future is Lankester, McGavin, Downes, Nydam, Bishop, Wolfenden, Simpson, Dobra et al, but if they made up our team now, we'd be slaughtered every week instead of by the league leaders.

The new five-year contract after a poor season would suggest that no decision will be made while we could still get promoted. I wasn't aware that Cowley was available. We would have been much better signing him up when MM left. I don't usually call for managers to be fired, but I would like to have a manager who doesn't BS the fans all the time and I would take Cowley above the guy who played for Bayern Munich in a heartbeat, but I don't just want Lambert sacked.

Lambert has to go but changing manager is like rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic. Until Evans drops his price and sells up to someone who can take Town forward the club will continue to fail and continue to fall. Surely in hindsight fans can see that should always have been the focus, for the last 6-7 years at least...

Who will want to come? Inexperienced young squad many who will want to move on if we are not promoted this year, wage cap coming in...massive debt; no money to spend. Do not belittle other clubs in our league. We may have a large stadium for League One but many other teams have better training setups and are currently better run/managed.

Seriously, Eddie Howe, Nigel Pearson...would not consider ITFC in its current predicament. ITFC may be dear to our hearts but in the real world, we are an average midtable League One club.

Usual old story. Haven't they learned anything from the sack McCarthy campaign and where that has landed us ?
Surprised TWTD gives it space. What we need is some real support not sack everyone including the stadium cat every time we lose a couple of games.
Onwards and upwards.

Good work Blueaction.

Eddie Howe coming here? What are people smoking? He wouldn't touch us at the moment.

I don't think its just Evans's funding that's at issue entirely so much as his general disinterest. He clearly sees the club as a chore having failed with Keane and Jewel despite giving them millions. Now he just keeps the club afloat and just wants a manager to keep the club ticking over quietly until he can find a buyer. He has no ambition for the club anymore and no passion. This makes the manager and players too comfortable. There are only so many managers to sack before you have to accept there is a necrosis affecting our club. It will take a passionate manager who can shake and wake the players, inspiring the youngsters whilst roping in the odd experienced pro like Stephen Ward to help out.

Think Blue Action have been quite restrained in their criticism of PL.

In regards to MM - the correct decision was for him to leave. The two subsequent managerial appointments were wrong. And the campaign against MM was wrong and wasn't orchestrated by them.

I agree with WhoISJJ- Im over the fact that we're pretty much over the idea we'll be getting significant funding - but Evans being disinterested and trotting out lines and promises he has no commitment to facilitating needs to change.

Bluearmy81 dropping the price is a recipe for disaster, selling to someone who cant afford the going price, we need someone who can afford to buy the club and invest. If someone hasnt got the money to buy they havent the money to invest!!! Its seems as though you want him out so bad you would have anyone!

Lambert out!

Razor,Eddie Howe is a good shout ,but I think he was on about 7million a year no way will Ebenezer evans pay that.I don't think he will pay Lambert off either.

The only thing that disappoints me is the mention of ‘his previous connections'. That should have nothing to do with it. Until we are in a position to compete with ANY other club, other clubs need to be forgotten and we must concentrate on ourselves.
