Blue Action Call For Lambert Exit
Thursday, 26th Nov 2020 09:56

Town independent supporters group Blue Action have called for the sacking of manager Paul Lambert and last night hung a banner across Playford Road’s gates to that effect.

The banner states “Lambo - Cheers for the beers but it’s time at the bar” with Lambo amended to Shambo.

In his first season at the club as he sought to build bridges with fans, Lambert bought pre-match pints for supporters in the FanZone ahead of a number of matches.

Lambert also invited members of Blue Action and other groups to the training ground to talk about improving the atmosphere at home matches.

Blue Action had been formed at the start of the 2018/19 season with the aim of enhancing the atmosphere at Portman Road via banners, stickers and the introduction of new songs and more recently have produced a fanzine. They outlined their position regarding Lambert's future in a statement.

Fans’ calls for a change of manager have increased in volume since Tuesday’s 3-0 home defeat to leaders Hull City with the Blues, who have lost six of their last nine in all competitions, having dropped to fifth in the table and fears that this season is turning into a repeat of 2019/20, in which Town started promisingly before fading into mid-table, growing.

Supporters have already begun to discuss who they would like to take charge at Portman Road on the TWTD Forum and on social media with former midfielder Kieron Dyer and ex-Portmouth and Wigan boss Paul Cook the names most frequently cited.

Fans, currently unable to attend matches, have also made contact with the club via email and tweet making their thoughts on the current position clear.

Lambert is contracted for five years having signed a new deal on New Year's Day.

Sorry but I don't agree with this, although I do fully understand why everyone is so anxious and agitated about the situation. I honestly think we'll be shooting ourselves in the foot and be more likely to end up in League 2 than the Championship.
The situation at the club is pretty dire, and that is largely off the pitch. I don't share the view of many that our squad is one of the better ones in the league. Neither keeper looks solid, the defence is shaky, the midfield can't stay fit for 5 minutes, and the forwards are hardly goal machines. Despite this we find ourselves in the play offs.
Yes we have been poor the last few games. Yes we have a tough run of fixtures. Yes for every brief glimpse of magic, there are 75 minutes of playing ourselves into danger at the back.
There are so many valid criticisms that can be made of Lambert's time here but I think the 'sack the manager' mentality is unbelievably short-sighted.
We're going to have to pay him and his staff off, find someone who actually wants to do the job, who can do the job, and then expect them to do it with no funds and no prospect of any meaningful additions.
Our road back to prosperity is a long and arduous one, whichever way we go with this. I know I am in the minority on this and will be delighted to be proved wrong if someone else comes in and turns it around, but I honestly think this is a turn for the worse.
Not everyone calling for the manager's head will be stubborn enough to admit they were wrong if it goes Pete Tong but a large amount of you will. There is a dangerous mentality of 'I'm right even if I know I'm wrong at large in the forums here lately and to be honest I find the standard of some criticism more depressing than I find our recent performances.
Again, I will be happy to be proved wrong but I truthfully think this a big mistake that will cripple us financially and not deliver the results we all hope for.

Danny Cowley for me - seems like a perfect fit for where we are & to take us forwards.

The trouble is at the top !
There is no doubt that Lambert has been very disappointing but he's had his hands tied by evans purse strings !
Who would want to come and what could they do ? I don't think our squad as it's made out ! Not the best in the league !!!!!

good for Blue action. Whilst Evans is ultimately responsible for the mess Lambert clearly is not capable of changing things on the pitch, he is ''flat'' .Devoid of passion ,devoid of ideas, and clearly cannot motivate the players. The excuses keep coming, players rolled out to tell us all they are hurting ,ect fact is the players are not up to the standard required ,fitness, skills ,passion, commitment all lacking. Lambert should at least be able to rectify some of those inadiquacies , but he cant. All the hope that he instilled has evaporated, He turned the fans around with all the talk, but when its come to whats happening on the grass he has not shown anything to back up the words. IT IS TIME NOW TO PUT HAND UP AND SAY GOOD BYE I TRIED BUT FAILED.

To everybody who posts on here.Be honest and ask yourself “ Do you believe PL will get us promoted this season if not how would you feel about us playing in division 1 next season.Enough said.I know where I would rather be.It's not rocket science.

So we have a major injury list, lose a few cup matches and a home match with half a team of youngsters against the league leaders and massive panic sets in amongst our so called supporters! Get real, support the team and the manager and you just may be pleasantly surprised how this season pans out.

Rfretwell,we are all well aware of the injury situation and the youngsters but the question here is promotion. If we don't get it this season how will the club we all love be next season with the wage caps etc. Will these brilliant youngsters we have want to stay another season in division1 and or will the owner be forced to sell them all.If that be the case how would you feel then.Promotion is the top priority this season nothing more nothing less.We love this club and if we feel the need we are all entitled to air our views.

well said Cheshire blue, be patient people all will come good. As for Eddie Howe, do people on here really think he would take that much of a pay cut to come here.

Word around the club is if we win against Charlton he gets the push.

However, if we lose he gets another 5 year contract.

If Evans has been savvy enough with the contract to have a get out clause (I'm sure he has) I doubt that clause would be anything other than the club being outside the top 10 by Christmas. Despite performances being below par, I doubt we will fall that far down the table in the next 4 weeks.

Its Danny Cowley or Joey Barton for me. If we don't act now we are heading for another season of mid table mediocrity and then our best youngsters will be sold in the summer.

Additionally I can't work out why we have so many injuries, it simply cannot all be done to bad luck, it must having something to do with training, rest, recuperation, preparation etc and this is another reason why we need a new manager.

Absolutely the right call, should never have been appointed in the first place. All spin and no substance. Prickly, rigid and stubborn, as a football manager PL is a busted flush. His post match interviews are surreal and often bear no rational relationship with the game of football. Act now or regret massively later.

Counago : I admire your loyalty but at what stage would you pull the plug or perhaps you wouldn't?? We are on the same decline as last season, the squad needs an almighty kick up the backside, and clear tactical plan(s)? What concerns me is that the team are just not motivated, there we were in the top 3 and played worse than the bottom club? That tells me something is fundamentally wrong! #coybs

Counago, a very level headed post. We are in this for the long haul. There is no quick fix, no manager with a magic wand, and no pleasing some people! We all want to see our team tearing up lge1, but didn't the majority of posters on here also want to see our youth developed? They may be talented but they are lacking experience and are far from the finished article. We cannot invest in new players, and all concerned would have something to say if we loaded up on loanees and our youth didn't make the squad. In terms of motivation, surely these players want to get out of this league? Surely they want championship salary? I've said it before, I'm no massive Lambert fan and the buck does ultimately stop at him, but there are many others contributing to recent poor form. All the names for potential replacement are change for change sake, either unproven or guys that have had their moments, mostly circumstantial. Who would have turned down PL after his Norwich success?

It's neither crass nor juvenile. They don't speak for you - fair enough, everyone entitled to their their own opinion, but they clearly do speak for a very large number of fans; the majority that are posting on this site & elsewhere.
Uou do realise that with no fans attending games over the last number of months, there has no been the usual opportunity for the fans to voice their disapproval & view regarding the manager's continuation in the job. The statement is fair & respectful of his efforts in my opinion, and in the opinion of many others. The fans have a right to be heard & these fans are representing the views of many.
Name calling doesn't help your argument either.

Difficult decision to make. Lambert has certainly failed to impress since he first arrived. There wasn't the new manager boost in performance and we fell from the Championship with barely a whimper. We were then playing in a league lower and all looked good from the start but as the season went on and became obvious that we struggled to beat anybody in the top part of the table along with a run of games where we couldn't beat anyone and the usual disappointment in all cup games. This season is now beginning to echo last season as we are now out of all competitions and still struggling to put on a performance against the better teams.
As many have said PL doesn't seem to have a plan B when his A fails and the ability to read a game and make positive changes. He says we can't play 2 up front as they are not very good, well one upfront is not good either as we don't score often and we certainly won't score many goals spending most of our possession football between the defenders and the GK!
On the flip side, I don't lay much at Marcus Evans door as he continues to personally fund all of this within the constraints of the FA, without him or a serious investor we are doomed. Those who continually moan about him need to remember tha Club runs at a loss and has done for years. He doesn't train the players, who must also take much of the blame too as many of them continually fail to step up to the mark and realise the importance of the shirt they are pulling on. Judge, Sears and Huws are all players that have played at higher levels and seem to be struggling for good performances in League 1. The level of injuries for the last few seasons is incredulous and continues to be amazing that so many suffer injuries in training that keep them out for weeks. This is either a training issue or extremely bad luck and without a doubt if we could play all of our first team we would be much stronger and am sure that the results would reflect this.
I feel that the time is getting near for PL if the performances don't improve soon and it may just be the likes of KVY, Downes, Dozzell and Drinian coming back that can be the extra bit of quality to turn the corner but it needs to happen soon as another season stuck in League 1 could condemn us to being here for much longer. PL, the clock is ticking.

This action shows much more care and love from the supporters to their football club.

More than a disheveled unshaven portly coach who can't be bothered to admit his and his teams misgivings from two awful games.

He's Billy big b*ll*cks from the big club. he's been relegated 5 times he can handle it ( and the money)

Well done BLUE ACTION>

BettyBlue added 16:40 - Nov 26
What's he still here for. He's proving weekly he can't handle the League div One.

He can't be happy with that.

Will he get a big job off the back of the last two years at Ipswich? Absolutely not.

No-one will touch him with a barge pole now.

So what is keeping him here?

Money. A payout and a bigger one if he doesn't walk.

He's proven he has no self respect or pride in what he does. Its just money. That's the limit of the "man"
