Blue Action Call For Lambert Exit
Thursday, 26th Nov 2020 09:56

Town independent supporters group Blue Action have called for the sacking of manager Paul Lambert and last night hung a banner across Playford Road’s gates to that effect.

The banner states “Lambo - Cheers for the beers but it’s time at the bar” with Lambo amended to Shambo.

In his first season at the club as he sought to build bridges with fans, Lambert bought pre-match pints for supporters in the FanZone ahead of a number of matches.

Lambert also invited members of Blue Action and other groups to the training ground to talk about improving the atmosphere at home matches.

Blue Action had been formed at the start of the 2018/19 season with the aim of enhancing the atmosphere at Portman Road via banners, stickers and the introduction of new songs and more recently have produced a fanzine. They outlined their position regarding Lambert's future in a statement.

Fans’ calls for a change of manager have increased in volume since Tuesday’s 3-0 home defeat to leaders Hull City with the Blues, who have lost six of their last nine in all competitions, having dropped to fifth in the table and fears that this season is turning into a repeat of 2019/20, in which Town started promisingly before fading into mid-table, growing.

Supporters have already begun to discuss who they would like to take charge at Portman Road on the TWTD Forum and on social media with former midfielder Kieron Dyer and ex-Portmouth and Wigan boss Paul Cook the names most frequently cited.

Fans, currently unable to attend matches, have also made contact with the club via email and tweet making their thoughts on the current position clear.

Lambert is contracted for five years having signed a new deal on New Year's Day.

martin587 we would of only been one div below premiership if the numbskulls hadn't hounded MM out. Keep changing managers achieves nothing Keane, Jewell ,Hurst the only person who got anywhere achieving anything was MM he got what he could out of bang average players. We lost the playoff at Carrot road because of a disastrous clearance by Mings that lead to Berra sending off. Mings made the same schoolboy error the other night for England.
No i am afraid we all have to accept that barring a miracle the great ITFC will never reach the giddy heights of the halcyon days of the 70"s in fact its not long odds against ITFC still existing in 10 years time.

Personally, I feel sorry for any manager tasked with the job of getting us promoted.

Paul Lambert doesn't seem able to get the team firing at a level needed to win promotion but let us not forget, he is not the WHOLE problem here, merely a symptom of Evan's tenure as owner.

Yes, the financial fair play rules can be cited for Evan's lack of willingness to invest at a level to guarantee having a really good go at the league, but, the reality of where we once were to where we are now speaks for itself. History doesn't lie. Since Sheepy and the board sold out to Evans, it has been one disastrous move after another... a slow and painful demise into the depths of League One and I fear it doesn't stop there.

Unless we can find a genuine miracle worker who can generate the spirit, togetherness, that overwhelming desire to win at all costs and a great footballing ethos on the pitch, we are dead in the water.

I don't see any light at the end of the Evans tunnel.

Len, no fans and only 1 home defeat in the league? Coincidence? Maybe.

Putneyblue - I'm more gutted that the ‘toy shop' has been closed down this year. Had many good nights in there. Lol

Oh God!

Not the MM argument AGAIN!!!

He's gone, he's curled up his toes, he's singing with the choir invisibule, he is an ex-manager!

Get the hell over it.

He was a footballing dinosaur who turned on the fans when they demanded more and were getting less.

Good bleeding riddance to him.

End of story!

Saxon you basically beat me to it I agree with you, I am also no great PL fan but there does need to be some realism.
The call for several seasons from a lot of supporters has been to bring on our promising youth, MM was criticised for ignoring our young players, PL has played them in abundance and it is not surprising to see performances up and down.
I don't pretend to have the answers and I would love to see the team top of the league playing in all the cup competitions, expressing themselves as top quality footballers but that only comes with experience and I'm not sure who else could do any better.

I could less what you think.

Dragging up McCarthy at every opportunity is a pathetic waste of your time and ours.

Can remember back to the Burley era, there were times when we were stuttering in form, the club bought in extra help in form of coach's e.g. John Gorman and i think Stuart Houston !! just a thought !

Maybe it's no coincidence that, with no fans in attendance, we have only lost 1 home league game this season, as you imply.
Having said that, might it also be no coincidence that besides Hull, the other clubs we have played at home in the league so far this season are Rochdale, Accrington, Shrewsbury, Crewe, Gillingham & Wigan?

I'd love Eddie Howe or Pearson but why on Earth are some fans so deluded to think they'll come to a club that's lacked any ambition for years now!?? It's great that the fans finally protest but it's at the wrong guy it should be the owner HE hires and fired managers and the clegg s of this club who have gradually bought us to become an average league one team he's the one who has taken us from a 30 million debt a good squad challenging in the championship with an ex player as manager to the absolute dross we have now he also gives contracts to the type of players who have bought is where we are but everyone wants to blame yet another manager!? The players are not good enough or can't be ars&d whichever it is. Yes lambert is an issue but until the top of the pyramid realised what an absolute mess he's made of this club and do more to attract decent managers we will continue to get the old farts of the game like McCarthy and lambert 🙄

Unfortunately your opinion doesn't seem to consist of anything more than 'somebody disagrees with me, so I'll insult them'.
There's not much value in engaging with someone like that. Good evening to you Sir.

Maybe some of the ‘fans' should take a bit of responsibility for the state of things. Your lack of brains when you comment and boo at the games shatters players confidence. I bet they were glad when they heard most of you can't attend games.
You talk like Lambert came in and ruined a good side, we were awful and have been for years.
He's having to teach them how to pass a ball again, it isn't going to happen straight away.
Those who would have kept McCarthy definitely have no knowledge of football unless they were previously Wimbledon fans.
The passing does need to be quicker but the basics are coming through finally, rather than hitting the ball in the corners to nobody we move it back then across to keep possession. Bloody England have done the same thing for the last 10 years.
Yet somehow you worship the likes of chambers and skuse who have been the two most regular players in recent times. Maybe they should be sacked.
Those mentioning Eddie Howe are in dreamland. It's laughable. Even Allardyce, who would honestly want to come and manage a team with you lot behind them. It's sickening, I can put up with the team losing its all of you lot that make the club crap.
Sheepashanks ruined us financially Evans saved our arse.

Let's be blunt - wins against poor sides like Shrewsbury and Crewe papered over the cracks. We didn't deserve to win either game. Lambert isn't up to the task and must be sacked.

bluelodgeblue - That's a fair question, and a difficult one to answer. It will sound defeatist to some, but I personally think he should be given until such time that it becomes clear we're not challenging for promotion. No doubt some will think that time has already come, but the season does not end in November and there are a lot of games left to be played. Fans are justifiably using last season's collapse as a yardstick for how things will go, but I think he deserves time to bounce back. Stranger things have happened than a team losing to the favourites to win the league mid-week before going on a run of results. The last few games in particular have been a hard watch, but I have said it before - I don't care how we play this year, I just care about results. If we go unbeaten for the next 3 or 4 games, suddenly things look more promising again. I'm not sure about looking like the worst team in the league - we just look bereft of quality at times for me. I said at the start of the season we would be lucky to make top half with the squad we have. Last year I said we would be lucky to make the top 8, and I wasn't wrong. My point is, Lambert is working with what we've got - a squad of players that aren't good enough for the Championship, some of them ageing and seizing up, others too young and inexperienced to make the difference. There is a lot of work to be done - I don't feel changing the manager will magically remedy that. COYB

Fans who believe the likes of Eddie Howe will take this job are living in an alternate reality. He's out of our league plus ITFC is proving to be a graveyard for any manager with a decent CV.

*If* Lambert is shown the door - and I don't think he will be until at least May - then we're looking at a tried-and-tested-at-League 1 level type of manager. Think Paul Cook.

Saxonblue74 - Completely agree, it does at times feel like some posters go to the kitchen to fetch their knives and sharpening kit just before kick off.
That's exactly right, every one of us wants nothing but success for our club, else we wouldn't waste our time posting on here, but it seems that if you dare to think in the long-term and talk about patience that you are accused of not being passionate about your club.
I care immensely about the Town, and if we lose it can ruin the rest of my Saturday.
The thing is though, when you put things into perspective, about the financial constraints we have suddenly been put under by the wage cap, or about the bad decisions that Evans has made in the past, or the never-ending injury crisis we find ourselves in, you can see that this was always going to be difficult for a club that hasn't tasted any form of success for two decades.
Ultimately, as you say, the buck stops with Lambert, that's the way football is - but a lot of the issues we're facing have been around a lot longer than he has, and will remain as a fog around the club long after he's gone.

Spot on from Blue Actuon.
We are only going one way under Lambert and it is not up. Any replacement needs to be given the maximum amount of time possible to get us promoted this season. My fear though is Evans will wait far too long before pulling the trigger
