Blue Action Call For Lambert Exit
Thursday, 26th Nov 2020 09:56

Town independent supporters group Blue Action have called for the sacking of manager Paul Lambert and last night hung a banner across Playford Road’s gates to that effect.

The banner states “Lambo - Cheers for the beers but it’s time at the bar” with Lambo amended to Shambo.

In his first season at the club as he sought to build bridges with fans, Lambert bought pre-match pints for supporters in the FanZone ahead of a number of matches.

Lambert also invited members of Blue Action and other groups to the training ground to talk about improving the atmosphere at home matches.

Blue Action had been formed at the start of the 2018/19 season with the aim of enhancing the atmosphere at Portman Road via banners, stickers and the introduction of new songs and more recently have produced a fanzine. They outlined their position regarding Lambert's future in a statement.

Fans’ calls for a change of manager have increased in volume since Tuesday’s 3-0 home defeat to leaders Hull City with the Blues, who have lost six of their last nine in all competitions, having dropped to fifth in the table and fears that this season is turning into a repeat of 2019/20, in which Town started promisingly before fading into mid-table, growing.

Supporters have already begun to discuss who they would like to take charge at Portman Road on the TWTD Forum and on social media with former midfielder Kieron Dyer and ex-Portmouth and Wigan boss Paul Cook the names most frequently cited.

Fans, currently unable to attend matches, have also made contact with the club via email and tweet making their thoughts on the current position clear.

Lambert is contracted for five years having signed a new deal on New Year's Day.

Maybe we could firm some kind of fans "coalition to run our club? I'd like to propose BA81 for chairman and Bettyblue as head of Public relations. Sorry Betty, couldn't resist fighting sarcasm with sarcasm!😂

Chuck in Dyer and Butcher as they are already in the building. Let's face facts here, if they win 4 in 10 they will have improved on Lambert

no bluearmy.... to use your example of a 250k house... its like getting the house for 200k because you cant afford the 250k, leaving nothing or very little for the restoration!

Oh Bluearmy, how much is the club to buy? i assume as you have an opinion on the asking price, you must know! If you dont know the asking price and the relevant facts it makes your original post all the more bizzare, again if you dont know it proves one thing, you just want Evans out. we all would like a better owner, but change for the sake of change? Its not the way forward!!!!

One more thing about the new owner, i want someone in who wants to own ITFC and will gladly pay the asking price because they love the club, they can afford the price and the restoration costs, not someone who wants to own us on a budget!!!

The biggest question regarding Lambert is this! can anyone see progress on the pitch? If so please point it out to me. There has been no on pitch improvement its the opposite in fact!

I wanted Lambert to do well here, but its now time for change!!!

PutneyBlue While I agree that many fans are far too short sighted, I still think that we are playing some youngsters is an excuse. A lot of teams in this division plays younger teams than we do, and still appear to be more organized, more hungry, have game plans. I think it´s too early to sack Lambert (we are not a million miles away, and we have been playing some good stuff as well, albeit with no consistency). But I don´t buy all this "we have so many young players/injuries"..many teams in this division are envious of the width of our squad. We need to step up and get on with what we´ve got.

bluelodgeblue - I can understand that people find his press conferences frustrating, but do you not think that they are all mind games? I think he is just trying to keep the players protected. I am pretty confident he has layed into the players in the dressing room on numerous occasions. If you tell everyone exactly what you think in front of a camera then the opposition also know exactly what you think. If the interviews bother you so much, just don't watch them - most managers wouldn't do them if they weren't obliged to. It's all corporate BS.
Which players are you concerned that he is playing out of position? I can see Sears, as he is not a winger, but we've been saying that since the days of Mccarthy. Who else is being played out of position at the moment? I could maybe see Judge, but I thought the consensus on here was that he shouldn't be playing full stop... Maybe Gwion or Lankester? I know they have been here a while now but Gwion has been a pro since 2011 and started less than 200 games - that's not particularly experienced for a 27 year old, not to mention Lambert has played him in position this season. Jack Lankester is 20 and has played just 25 games, so he's certainly not experienced. But perhaps you meant others? I'm not sure who though.

I don't think you can complain that Lambert keeps the same side when A) last year he was accused of being the tinkerman and B) we have injuries everywhere. What would you like him to do? Magic up some quality players out of the ancient burial ground Playford Road is clearly built upon?
Oh an with regards to playing one striker at home - we are playing a 443 system, which a lot of fans were calling for last year/happy to see this year. Unfortunately because of injury, we have only really had more than one striker fully fit at the very start of the season. I don't think anyone would have predicted Norwood would be starting games when we heard about his drink-driving, but that's the situation we're in because Drinan is not fully fit, Jackson is not fully fit and doesn't seem to want to be here, and Hawkins for all his hold up play, is not a prolific goalscorer.

I hope its not going the same way as last season. The next 8 days will tell. A month ago these 3 games were all we could win, but now i wonder. Injuries dont help but games are won by scoring goals. To score goals you need to play in the opponents not in our half. Play our 2 best strikers ie Jackson & Norwood. And please Lambert tell us the true story of Vincent Young

@stiffy501 and Bryan Hamilton who was a really good coach. Nostalgically Burley took a few years to get us out of the Championship having taken the club into free fall. Even then we had a soft underbelly as we couldn't seem to win play off semi finals or just missed out on a top six.

George was a good manager but the best piece of work he did for Ipswich was managing to sign Marcus Steward who I believe was equivalent to our Messi for 2 seasons and one of the main reasons we got promoted . I have watched the town through the Crawford, Johnson (Jonny), Mariner years - all 3 superb Centre forwards and I love hearing Ray speak on the radio now the man still has passion for our club at a rip old age. Marcus Stewart though is the best striker in my mind that I have seen at the club in 57 years of rocking along to Portman Road.

Anyway I am straying off the subject. But currently we do not have the steel to win important matches so unless we can seal 1st or 2nd I can't see us winning a play off semi.

Possession football is all well and good if you can play at different tempos and playing across the back as we do all to often is ok if you are say 2-0 up and time is on your side, you can draw and tire the other side out to go on and pick them off more. However as most teams now seem to play us is they let us have the ball in the areas that are doing no damage to them and repeat further back up the pitch to congest and then disposses us and attack us on the break.

As an earlier poster aptly put we either need to play our way out of this league or punch our way out, and he was correct in his observation that we were doing neither. So we either have to do much better with the current style or adapt to a more effective approach to get results at this level.

4-3-3 doesn't have to dictate that 2 of the 3 up front have to be touch line hugging wingers. Look at Liverpool. Again as many have already pointed out we are playing more of a 4-5-1 at times. But quite frankly to much is made of line-up formations. Reading an article on Guardiola, he adopted a training regime of 5-5, 5 defensive minded players and five attacking minded player, both blocks of players worked as units with both units needing to ensure that no gaps or space appeared between the two blocks. In essence the formations were dynamically changing throughout the match between 3-4-3, 4-3-3, 3-5-1 regardless of how the starting line-up was displayed on paper.

There are a lot of varying views concerning our current plight, who is to blame and the possible changes needed in attempting to address the situation we find ourselves in... yet again!

As I see it, and it is only my opinion based on what I see and hear, our beloved club has become a bit of a circus akin to the US Presidency of Donald Trump.

Trump, the Commander In Chief (or The Supreme Leader) and his sidekick, VP Mike Pence (read: any manager employed by The Supreme Leader).

Firstly, Trump is certainly no politician (or Club Owner), who sows the seeds of division (Division One?) and malcontent through the constant repetition of bold-faced inaccuracies (the 5 year plan), stating something over and over and over until it becomes a virtual truth in the eyes of those who know no better. Mike Pence, the VP, quietly smiles in the background, trying not to let anything fluster him and toes the President's line, even though he must be embarrassed to do so.

Next season is going to be great... truly great... really... it'll be the greatest season ever... so great... we're going to do things... lots of things... and it'll be great!

The majority of people are tired of this trash and would like someone else in charge but Trump is stubbornly determined to hold onto power. VP Mike Pence quietly smiles (perhaps more of a wince) in the background, still toeing that Presidential line, trying to look unruffled, even though he must be sorely embarrassed to do so.

Perhaps the cure for all our club's ills might be an intravenous shot of some sort of strong isotonic sports drink? Maybe that's possible... I don't know... is that possible? Perhaps you could look into that... It would be so great... truly... so great! (Only joking... no really... it was a joke, honest!).

Ahem!

Under Trump's tenure as (fake) President, at least the stock markets have rallied to an all time high, just like ITFC's current net worth... uh... ah... oh yeah... ummmm... I mean ummm... no. Damn... and it was all fitting into place.

All joking aside, someone here posted that the buck stops with Lambert. It doesn't!

The buck stops with one Mr M Evans.

I agree change is needed but just how much change dare we hope for?

As I said, just my opinion.

We're rebuilding our club
Our style of football is much much better
We have lots of our youngsters coming through now, more than for a long time.
We have a blueprint from the Academy up.
One leaves another one comes along.
It will take time and we might not get promoted this year.
Does it really matter?
I want to be a force in football again.
I don't want to get promoted, buy more older players, and then get relegated again.
We are really enjoying seeing the youngsters so it will take time.

In 2-5 years we will start doing it again if we stick with the plan.

If we change manager now he will try for immediate success and potentially break all the good work that is happening from the academy up just for a quick fix.

No Change for me.

Bluearmy81. Same old rubbish from you. Its all very well saying that if Evan's goes and we get a new owner things will improve. They wont. Any new owner will be under the same constraints that Evans is now. And it has nothing to do with transfer fees. Even if we were to offer, say £1m for a player, we couldnt sign him bcse of the salary cap. Unless we were to sell around 4 or 5 players at least to free up wages within our budget. What are really need right now, is a manager who can get the best out if the players we have. As it appears, clearly that Lambert cant.
