Fitness Coach Henry Leaves Town
Monday, 30th Nov 2020 09:57

Town’s fitness coach Jim Henry is understood to have left the club.

Henry, 68, whose official job title was head of athletic performance/sports science, joined the Blues just over two years ago when manager Paul Lambert took charge at Portman Road having previously worked with the Blues boss at Stoke.

The sudden departure is believed to have come as a result of friction with the club's football management over recent weeks.

Following his exit first-team coach Matt Gill has taken on Henry's warming up duties at the last two matches.

A former Scotland international judo athlete, Henry has also worked at Bury, Rangers, Hibs, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Celtic.

1 down, 20 to go.

Sack the lot of them. None of them are fit to be associated with our club.

Well perhaps the management do actually listen/ read what the fans have been saying for such a long time. I think there is much more to this than we are reading here. This problem has been going on for a long time. The fans are not stupid we have been voicing our observations for some time now well before this guy was appointed. Sack the lot if needs be and get some new staff in. However PL cannot have not made himself aware of this problem in training methods otherwise he would have done something before this. There is good fitness program technique and sadism has no place in training. PL is still not off the hook in my opinion. If he turns things around by Christmas I will be the first in line to acknowledge it.

I heard from a reliable source that he's quit saying “I just can't keep this lot fit, it's impossible “

Get Tom Rowson in from TMR Ambition Coaching/ Reflex 18/ Hadleigh United FC. He is young, relevant and has such a great depth of knowledge in performance/ physio/ injury prevention. You can see how passionate he is about educating and enhancing performance at a lower league level such as Hadleigh United.

Well I too am 68 and still out-perform many in their 20s and 30s at the gym and keep mentally in shape studying for a PhD as well as holding down 3 part-time jobs.
Jim has clearly had a lot of experience and should know what works and what does not. Before being quick to slag him off we need to know more about the differences behind the scenes.

We should also note that our injury list problem long pre-dates Mr Henry.
I recall posting on it several years ago and the issue continues to pop up. Given the frequency of hamstring and groin injuries I wonder whether the players spend enough time on stretching exercises.......

So the "unfitness coach" has gone but being Ipswich he will still receive a full salary for doing very little----like a lot of the players.
