Lambert on Henry Replacement: We Need to Look at That
Friday, 4th Dec 2020 10:52

Town Paul Lambert says the Blues will need to look at replacing fitness coach Jim Henry, who recently returned to his native Scotland and will see out the rest of the season working in a consultancy role.

Henry is understood to have departed suddenly a fortnight ago following ongoing friction having joined the club as part of Lambert’s staff when he took charge in October 2018, having previously worked with the Blues boss at Stoke.

Asked whether he had any plans to replace Henry, Lambert said: “We need to look at that because it's an important role, so I guess there's been that much going at the minute that it's something where we need to get our heads together and see where we're going. Again, a lot will be on investment and what's happening.”

In terms of who is taking on Henry’s role - officially head of athletic performance/sports science - in the interim, he added: There are a few lads who are mucking in, which you have to do in times like. A few lads are helping.”

Was it a big blow to lose Henry? “I think when you lose any member of staff, it's a blow. But that's the world I guess, and football is so unpredictable with what can happen when you lose people.

“Even when you sell a player and he's done well for you there's always a little bit of sadness there because you think he's done well.”

What can he do in his consultancy role? “I’m big enough and old enough now to look after ourselves. Jim’s going to do his own thing. We will crack on here the best we can. We’ll go with what we’ve got here and we’ll go with everything we’re doing.”

Reflecting on Town’s lengthy list of injured players, he points out it’s not just the Blues who are in that situation.

“The injury situation, even if you look at Liverpool where they’ve got all the best technology in the world and Jurgen [Klopp]’s having incredible injury up there as well,” he said.

“The number of injuries are going through everybody, it doesn’t matter if you’ve got the best surgeons in the world, best medical staff in the world, what’s happened in the last six or seven months will hopefully never be repeated again because it’s been so, so hard.”

A former Scotland international judo athlete, Henry has also worked at Bury, Rangers, Hibs, Sunderland, Aston Villa and Celtic.

Replacement of Henry.....” there's a few of the lads mucking in “....“depends on the investment “

And that fellas. Is the fundamental problem at this once great Club.

“I'm big enough and old enough now to look after ourselves. Jim's going to do his own thing."

So, as suspected, this "consultancy role" is just a load of flannel. Lambert has fallen out with him due to the injury situation and he's on gardening leave.

What a circus we have become.

Get Tom Rowson in from TMR Ambition Coaching/ Reflex 18/ Hadleigh United FC. He is young, relevant and has such a great depth of knowledge in performance/ physio/ injury prevention. You can see how passionate he is about educating and enhancing performance at a lower league level such as Hadleigh United and can thrive at a place like Ipswich

Trying to do stuff like this on the cheap is insanity.  Why not get the best medical / sports injury team we can possibly afford?  Having a squad riddled with injured players is damn well expensive and an inefficient waste of valuable resources.  We've had an assistant manager do the warm up (is he best qualified to do that?) and then we've had injuries later in the same match.

Why not ditch one of the long-term injured players like Huws and the money we save in wages put towards a top-level medical team that can get our players back to fitness faster?

If we pushed the boat out and got a really good medical / sports injury team then they would save us a fortune in haemorrhaging wages on long-term injured players.  They would pay their way many times over.  If they rehabilitated  just 1 player back 1 or 2 months faster then the money they've saved in wages is significant.

Injuries have been a massive headache at ITFC for as long as I can remember.  It's time to stop messing around and get in the right people as we can't afford to continually get it so long as it's hurting us year in and year out.

We are beyond needing a fitness coach, orthopaedic surgeons and and retired Army combat medics seem more appropriate

I'm sure there's a lot more to this that will come out over time it wouldn't be the first time there's been issues in this area as a youth teamed tried suing the club a couple of years back after poor treatment ruined his career. This I'm afraid sums up the club a very important role at the club and someone's been let go/left with no replacement or even idea of a replacement. This club becomes more and more of a laughing stock as the years go on under this ownership!

It just suggests once again that Evans has cut his cloth to the basic dimensions and to coin another phrase, there is no more fat left to cut off the joint.

So much flannel from PL here. I worry he has lost touchwith how a modern football club is run. And if he's out of touch, what is he tellingEvan's?
Paul, if you want to actually succeed you need to PREVENT injury, as much as possible, and PROMOTE a healthy lifestyle. More worrying comments a while back about PL not knowing what gym equipment or exercise the players are doing at home. He should know exactly what they are doing, eating, how much rest etc, or someone should, otherwise quite frankly they're a pub side.
