Town Down to Sixth
Saturday, 19th Dec 2020 17:28

Town dropped a place to sixth in League One following Friday and Saturday’s games.

The Blues’ scheduled match at Peterborough was postponed yesterday due to a positive Covid-19 test among the Posh players and other members of the squad reporting symptoms.

Last night, Portsmouth won 2-0 at Hull City to usurp the Tigers at the top of the table, while Lincoln won 4-0 at Northampton, who visit Portman Road on Boxing Day, this afternoon to climb to second behind Pompey on goal difference.

Hull are now third ahead of Doncaster Rovers, who won 3-1 away against bottom-of-the-table Burton Albion this afternoon.

Peterborough are fifth ahead of the Blues on goal difference with both sides now three points off the top but with a game in hand on Portsmouth.

Seventh-placed Charlton drew 2-2 at Swindon, while Accrington in eighth played out a 0-0 stalemate at Blackpool.

In addition to Town’s game at London Road, the Shrewsbury-Sunderland and Bristol Rovers-Oxford United matches were also postponed due to positive Covid tests.

Couple of last minute goals at Swindon and Fleetwood got us out of jail there. Table looks better than it would have done with Peterborough on 35 and 19 games played...

Those results were fairly good for us. This year the league table is a mess with all the postponements.

The table is a mess. You really need to look at the top 12 cause any of them can go up.....

Portsmouth look really strong. Doncaster also well in contention. Surprise package for me is Lincoln who I thought would fall away after a good start. It's any 3 from 12 but this league is going to create a few surprises between now and the end of the season so we just need to stay in touch.

Just watched Walsall v Port Vale. Walsall have a forward on loan, 20 years old, on loan from Bournemouth. What a player. He came on as a sub. and caused trouble in the opposition half plus he scored a brilliant goal - watch it on either YouTube or EFL on Quest. Would not cost the earth if anything but definitely an asset. How about it?

Well still only 3 points off the top two and the return of some of our better players edging ever closer. Lets look forward to moving up the table once we can get Bishop, Edwards, Norwood and Downes back on the park.
I would be surprised if some of the clubs with smaller squads will be able to hang on in the top 6 when they have a few key players out injured at some point.

Not to play yet maintain a top six place is a bit of a result without even playing. We can drop a couple of places if games in hand are won by teams below us but some yesterday used up their games in hand and dropped points. I'll settle for that.

graham 2408 Just because he's on loan doesn't mean Bournemouth want to sell him might be getting game time as we did with Downes and Wolfenden.
