Town Seventh After Boxing Day Fixtures
Saturday, 26th Dec 2020 17:24

Town have dropped one place to seventh in League One following today’s fixtures.

The Blues were due to host Northampton at Portman Road, however, the game was called off earlier in the week due to Town’s positive Covid-19 tests. The match has been rescheduled for Tuesday 16th February.

Charlton Athletic drew 2-2 at home to Plymouth Argyle to move ahead of the Blues on goal difference and into the final play-off place.

Lincoln thrashed Burton Albion 5-1 at Sincil Bank - having won 4-0 away at Northampton last weekend - to go top of the table ahead of Portsmouth, whose home game against Swindon was postponed, also due to positive Covid tests.

Hull City’s match at Sunderland, Doncaster’s home fixture with Accrington Stanley and Peterborough’s trip to Gillingham were similarly called off, as was the Blackpool-Rochdale game.

Town’s Tuesday match at AFC Wimbledon is also off as are the Peterborough-Charlton, Bristol Rovers-Portsmouth and Hull-Lincoln games.

The Blues are next due to be in action on Saturday 2nd January when they’re due to travel to Fleetwood, however, that fixture is also in doubt.

Heathen66 Huws is never going to be the player he was, injuries have caught up with him one of many players who must be released in the summer. We must stop thinking we are some big club from the championship and get players in that can adapt to this league. I think questions have to be asked about the ability of our scouting network to spot good players. Hope you had a good Christmas let's hope 2021 is going to be better for I T F C .

Assuming we don't have too many fixtures to fit in thus inviting more injuries I think this break is a blessing in terms of getting key players back..... if and I know it's a big if, we get KVY, Bishop, Downes, Edwards and Norwood back we can definitely climb the table .... keep the faith!

We need to get evans involved in a LIVE debate with supporters and not a manufactured one where he will explain openly his plans and how to arrest this 14 year slide from protagonist club to also rans in the 1st division and not read from a pre-taped script where he sounds like he is reading a company balance sheet.
Sheepshanks had his faults but he was a business man and a fan to the core.

I think this enforced break could be a mixed blessing. Yes it will give some players the opportunity to return from injury but all the players may be a bit slow to get going again in the first few matches (although that seems usual for us anyway).

I don't see us bringing in any new players in the Jan transfer window so I think our fall in the table is likely to continue in the short term before hopefully things start coming together for a sustained push in the second half of the season.

one wheel was already off the wagon, the Covid infections is another wheel about to fall off.

there is not one sign and I've searched, there is nothing to look forward to for ITFC in 2021.

except maybe getting some fans back in eventually.

and when will people realize the injured players are never coming back.

one achilles kyv, bishop the hairdresser, downes "I'm so good I'll never have to play for Town again", edwardes the headless chicken and fatty tatty norwood do not add anything to our promotion chances.

particularly as they all refuse to leave the treatment room and haven't kicked a football in three months.

Bettyblue, "nothing to look forward to for ITFC in 2021"? I wonder, do you ever look forward to anything? Your comments are never anything less than unconstructive and debilitating! Why on earth would our injured players "never come back"? Are you suggesting all of those players are to retire? I hope you had a merry xmas and may I be the first to wish you a happy new year!🤣

Saxon , Its fine trying to be positive, but Betty is right re some of our players, they are a waste of space, people keep saying our ''best players ''are all injured, but they are clutching at straws, how are they our best players ? they rarely play . I agree with BB i dont see anything to get excited about, its a re run of last season .

Clinging on to hopes of a turn of fortunes when players return from injury is futile.

We haven't been any good for the last two and a half seasons regardless of who is on the pitch.

Bishop has never got a season in him, Downes similar, Norwood is a bad joke. KVY had a couple of games and suddenly the promised land was in his hands in the eyes of many, he has been absent since and cant be relied on to come back and meet expectations after such a long time out.I find it odd that we cant get anywhere with those that are playing, but people rely on those that cant or dont .Just step back and look at all those players weve signed in last few years that have spent most of their time ''on the sick''.

We are only three points off second place, half the season to play and lots of players due to return from injury. Do not despair!

Bettyblue - the players you are slagging off are (like it or not) our best players atm so we have to hope that they will return from injury and start performing soon but if they don't, you will be right and this season will be another write off.

You have to cling on to some hope and positivity (however small) otherwise you might as well give up being an Ipswich fan and take up another more positive hobby instead.

People who think that we are going to get everyone fit at the same time are living in cloud cuckoo land im afraid. There's players at the club who will never be fully fit they might play the odd game now and again. Time for massive changes to the playing staff in the summer the facts don't lie we haven't been good enough for years. We also haven't got youngsters who can come in and make an instant impact even in this poor league sounds harsh but those are the facts.

exactly Linkboy, its a tall order for the youngsters but with no prospect of any decent signings now thats how it is.

Hush hush. Evans is preparing another speech that all is well. Keep banging the drum. Remain positive. The season is not over yet. If anyone really believes this club is going to make progress under this one man band , think again.

All to play for if and when we re-start in the New Year. If we get some players back from injury and up to speed, we could be among the front runners. Equally, with teams like Plymouth and Shrewsbury getting decent results. we could quite easily drop down to just above the relegation zone or worse if things go badly. 50-50 I would say. COYB!

ChrisR added 11:03 - Dec 29
What are the odds on promotion ? Certainly less than 50-50 I agree , and PL certain to stay until end of season , whenever that would be , and utterly no chance of any headline player signing. The long term injured will struggle to get up to speed , so we must hope that PL can inspire the players he has....and that's the problem , he sounds just so dour when you can understand what he is saying , for heavens sake brighten up , it may just rub off ??

I think there's something wrong with our medical department, how many players have we had over the years who spend more time crocked that playing?? Mcgoldrick a good example watched him on motd the other week and he sprinted 25 yards after the ball he never ran that far in all the years he was at ipswich.plenty of other's who have done the samew.

WhoisJimmyJuan added 14:44 - Dec 29
Michael101. Its about lack of motivation. Managers, players and coaching staff have been too comfortable in their roles for years due to a disinterested owner. No morale, no passion, no ambition in the club apart from amongst us fans.
