Grimsby Confirm Hurst Appointment
Wednesday, 30th Dec 2020 19:39

Grimsby Town have confirmed the appointment of former Blues boss Paul Hurst as their new manager.

Hurst, 46, has signed a deal until June 2023 at Blundell Park and is joined by his Town assistant Chris Doig. Hurst, who watched last night’s 0-0 home draw with Oldham, was previously in charge at Grimsby between March 2011 and October 2016.

“It's a bit surreal to be back!” Hurst told the Mariners’ official site. “It brings back a lot of nice memories too. It's great to see a lot of familiar faces here still and I have enjoyed it.

“Not much has changed, many of the faces are still the same but that can be a positive. In terms of getting to know people that's easily done, I already know the people here so that'll be an easy transition.

“No one wants to see the club where it is [22nd in League Two]. There is no doubt that it is a perilous position.

“There is no point in hiding away from that fact and after being a big part in helping the club get back into the League, I can hopefully play a big part in making sure that we are still there come the end of the season.”

Hurst was in charge of the Blues for just 149 days between May and October 2019. His most recent job prior to today's appointment was at Scunthorpe between May 2019 and January 2020.

Felt for the bloke at Ipswich looked well out of his depth. Maybe with a different coach things might have been different. Indeed the rumour was the club wanted to keep Hurst and dispense with Doig but Hurst declined this. Hope things go well for him.

I think his main problem with us was Chambers who has far too much influence at the club.

aas1010....Yes 100% serious
Footballers today have too much influence and not just at our club
AVB at Chelsea was a prime example where Terry, Lampard and co did not want the changes that AVB was proposing (rebuilding the club) and therefore made sure he was not a success. Chelsea were in the bottom half of the table and AVB got sacked. Di Matteo came in, allowed the senior players to do what they wanted and subsequently won the CL.
Senior players allowing a club that pays them handsomely to fail until they get their way is totally unacceptable !!!
It happens at a lot bigger clubs than us !!!
Therefore again I wish Paul Hurst the best of luck !!!

He wrecked the club in 8 weeks with his dreadful signings. With any luck he'll take whats left of the players to Grimsby, which is their level.

Heathen66 . But the players we had with McCarthy didn't buy all the players that hurst brought , they didn't say oh yes mr hurst you buy div1 players did they . He was rubbish just admit it . Evans got him in ( not doing proper homework ) on this bloke . If evans put his mind to it better we could have had lampard , ok we would have lost him to Chelsea and then got a few Bob out off them in compo . Or stevie gerrard , but hurst still remains our worst manager whether you or others says he's great , look at Wikipedia and stats off all our bosses ( not including temp ones) ! He's 💩
