Lambert Facing Dressing Room Unrest - Report
Monday, 11th Jan 2021 19:23

Town boss Paul Lambert is reported to be under increasing pressure due to dressing room unrest.

According to Football Insider, there is “a dressing room mutiny” with relationships between Lambert and some of the club’s senior players “fractured”.

The Blues are claimed to be considering sacking the 51-year-old and are looking at potential replacements.

However, owner Marcus Evans released a statement backing Lambert just over a month ago and is not believed to be looking at making an imminent change.

Lambert has been in charge at Portman Road since October 2018 and signed a new five-year contract on New Year’s Day 2020.

After failing to prevent relegation from the Championship in 2018/19, the Blues finished 11th in their first season in League One.

This season, having started well, they have drifted out of the play-off places, just as they did in 2019/20.

Following Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Swindon, the Blues are eighth in the table, having lost four of their last five matches at Portman Road.

Overall, Lambert has been in charge of 103 Town matches with the Blues winning 33, drawing 25 and losing 45.

Earlier today, the South West Branch of the Supporters Club joined independent supporters group Blue Action in calling for a managerial change.

@RobsonWalk, so the man whose name is first on the team sheet is the cause of the alleged mutiny. If you are right then he will not be in the team at the weekend. If you are wrong as I suspect then your comments are ill thought out and baseless.

Michael101, every other manager has picked him. Maybe we're not the experts?

With Celtic now 22 points behind Rangers, the vultures are now circulating around Lennon. You never know they might do us a favour and take Lambert off our hands, would save Evans a fortune in compensation at the same time.

I hope there is some truth to these rumours however its unlikely our owner will sack him until the window has closed as any incoming manager may want some money to spend.... if I was a betting man Lambert will probably get a contract extension on the back of these rumours knowing our chairman...☹️

2 things

Shambert has to go. Problem is I have zero confidence in the tax dodger bringing in the correct replacement. And actually it doesn't matter if it's Pep if there's no backing in terms of signings coz the shower of s.hi£ we currently have won't get us promoted.

5 year contract (4 left on it) don't add that to what the club “owes” you when you have to pay him off.

I would actually do a straight swap Lambert for Lennon, couldn't do any worse and would be a lot more passionate

Don't usually give, similar, articles much credence. Need to fill column inches, or keep supporters engaged with low-grade scuttlebut, is what they're about.

However, taken together with Luke W's very pointed post-match comments, indications are that all's clearly not well at the heart of the club. Realistically, ME will ultimately end up bidding PL farewell: to save enduring more pain and torture, it might as well be sooner rather than later, when any glimmer of promotion hope has disappeared. It ain't working - fix it ME. But, please, make the right choice. Paul Cook would be a good start.

Like many others I'm not big on sacking managers hastily but this can't continue. We have a big couple of months ahead, make or break. I do think we have enough to get out of this league but surely Lambert has lost credibility with the players? Some of the situations with players not holding down a place in the squad are personal? Cornell over Holy? Dobra? El Mizouni? Downes (earlier in the season)? Maybe even Danacien was worth a run given our injury crisis? Refusal to play 2 up top must be "I won't be told what to do"? Surely he can see the issues with his experience but won't listen to opinion or admit his systems dont work. Time for a change. I didn't like what Hurst did, but find myself feeling far more negative with Lambert. Not since Roy Keane have we needed change more.

Paul cook, what time should I pick you up from the station?

Paul Cook? Would his name be coming up so often had he not been in the studio on Saturday? I suspect not.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Butcher and Dyer taking over until the end of the season. I guess they would only command relatively small increases on their existing contracts and it's likely to be a popular appointment with senior players and fans. It ticks a lot of boxes.

Not sure how a 4 year redundancy package would work with the salary cap etc - all pre-existing contacts are treated as a fraction of what they actually are (until renewal, whereupon the “real” salary cap hits) - so I'm not sure the club can afford a replacement of any calibre...

There is life after Lambert just ask Stoke, Wolves, Aston Villa, Wycombe and even the scum.

If sheff weds don't make Neil Thompson permanent manager then he's the man for us!! You will have to move quickly Evans no mucking about.
He's an ex player still loves the club & done a brilliant job for Weds as caretaker boss. Yes bit of a gamble but why not what else have we got to loose he could be another town legend if he's not already👍👍

No time for "a bit of a gamble" in my opinion planetblue.

If they did, hopefully they would promote the U23's to the first team. I'd rather watch them than that sh7te team we fielded on Saturday!

Very interesting, Some have mentioned the brave Wolfenden interview at the week end. Worth a look for those who not familiar. Main theme was need to play to our strengths. Lambert appears to be rigid and stubborn. He doesn't seem to be adding value. Lamberts contract extension was ridiculous in my view. Hopefully there are some performance related clauses in there. We must continue to foster our young talent.
What was the laughing and joking at the end of the game?
Lambert is not the answer.

Maybe go down the foreign route for a new manager. It hasn't done Norwich any harm.
