Lambert Facing Dressing Room Unrest - Report
Monday, 11th Jan 2021 19:23

Town boss Paul Lambert is reported to be under increasing pressure due to dressing room unrest.

According to Football Insider, there is “a dressing room mutiny” with relationships between Lambert and some of the club’s senior players “fractured”.

The Blues are claimed to be considering sacking the 51-year-old and are looking at potential replacements.

However, owner Marcus Evans released a statement backing Lambert just over a month ago and is not believed to be looking at making an imminent change.

Lambert has been in charge at Portman Road since October 2018 and signed a new five-year contract on New Year’s Day 2020.

After failing to prevent relegation from the Championship in 2018/19, the Blues finished 11th in their first season in League One.

This season, having started well, they have drifted out of the play-off places, just as they did in 2019/20.

Following Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Swindon, the Blues are eighth in the table, having lost four of their last five matches at Portman Road.

Overall, Lambert has been in charge of 103 Town matches with the Blues winning 33, drawing 25 and losing 45.

Earlier today, the South West Branch of the Supporters Club joined independent supporters group Blue Action in calling for a managerial change.

The players are good enough, they are just held back by a stubborn and inept manager. Get a new manager in who will get the best out of this group.

I'm very sceptical that Evans will take any action on the manager before it's too late this season. He's fundamentally a businessman so he will be weighing up the best time to sack Lambo based on finances alone.

Bet Woolfie doesn't get picked for the next match

I haven't a clue if there is any truth in this whatsoever but the time has come to act. Personally, I doubt there is a mutiny but surely the players must be making their feelings known about a system that does not work. For a temporary arrangement and to bring stability back quickly I would favour an interim management team of people like Butcher, Dyer and Klugg. Give them the rest of the season to play out the Ipswich way before cementing any arrangement.

He does not care, shows no drive or desire , too old and past it now also . He's done nothing since NCFC days , and was a bad pick from the start . That early PR BS was easy and not sincere .

It is nailed on from what I have told, does not matter what happens Saturday win, lose or draw he is gone next week, just one or two loose ends being dotted and teed.

It's like Groundhog Day with this club, change the manager blah blah, how many changes till we get it right? Never with Evans in charge. Why would any decent manager come to this outfit? Eddie Howe in your dreams it will be some other has been and or the cheapest option...and the Celtic are not daft enough to appoint Lambert they would set their sights a bit higher. Sad to say I don't think much will change at Ipswich until there is a new owner who feels for the club the way the fans do...

Hopefully he,ll take that useless excuse of a captain with him. That was the worst performance on Saturday by a so-called captain of ITFC l have ever seen. Can you imagine Mills, Butcher, Magilton,Mowbray or Holland playing that badly? Proper Captains & Leaders. Bloke is a disgrace.

People on Chambers back again, should realise that he might have had enough as well. It has been noticeable for the last few games that his profile is much lower during games. In the past he was always leading the team with encouragement etc. That doesn't seem to be happening anymore. Media calls haven't happened either. I think he might have lost the will, along with others, to play for the Manager. Usually, Managers have to go, once they loose the dressing room, even if the owner(s) of a club don't want to get rid of them.

Are you kidding me? He has been sh7te for the last 4 or 5 seasons with his poor marking (or should I say non-existance marking), mistake after mistake, doesn't know how to tackle. He has given up on blaming everyone else on the pitch for all his own errors and mistakes now that more Town supporters are finally noticing all his horrendous mistakes and not licking his arse for his fist pumps! One of the worst players we have ever had let alone worst Captain.

He always TALKS a great game but come match day he is ALWAYS our WEAKEST link on the pitch!

We can only pray that he has had enough and f#cks off from our club!!!

This group of players are good enough to finish in the top 6 - always assuming that the season can be completed. But they are lacking motivation and a more dynamic playing system. The difference on Saturday was that Swindon played with a spring in their step whilst we went through the motions.

There used to be the day when fans could boycott matches to protest to an owner. That's been robbed of us and the owner still isn't changing direction. Not sure what leverage is left that will budge him to replace Lambert.

He should have gone last season, yet we continue to drag this out! this situation just stinks the place out and puts off any potential new additions both managerial or playing.
GET RID, put Dyer and Butch in temporarily to oversee the 1st team until we make a new appointment!
I'm not a fan of his first name but apart from Paul Cook looks like a decent shout.

Senior players are part of the problem. They have had too much sway in the past few years. We need a manager who takes charge and gets a grip of these so called senior players and give them a kick up the backside.

Time for the EADT and Radio Suffolk to put the pressure on so this has legs.

Cannot afford to appoint another manager who's had a succession of failures.

Are we seeing a small chink of light through the darkness of the tenancy of PL.'s? The win rate of his time at this club of ours leaves me shocked that he is still here. If one of ME's managers in his entertainment industry had the same record of disasters he would have been sacked long ago. If PL is losing his dressing room too how on earth are we going to win on the pitch even against the poorest of teams in this league. The belief has gone in this club especially in PL. GO NOW by the Moody Blues " We've already said goodbye" etc.

The comment from Woolfenden about playing to our strengths gave a bit of a clue

If this does happen what's the betting that we don't appoint any of the suggested above?

I hate chopping and changing managers, it can be so counter-productive sometimes but the timing now just feels very right. There's no spark left in his fire here. I would join the gang looking at appointing Butch and Dyer. Ok, next to no experience, but the passion, commitment and love of the club will permeate through to the players day in day out I'm sure. Burley had a bit more experience before joining as manager, but nothing mind-blowing. It may or may not have the desired effect, but at this point it could well be worth a try.
