Lambert Facing Dressing Room Unrest - Report
Monday, 11th Jan 2021 19:23

Town boss Paul Lambert is reported to be under increasing pressure due to dressing room unrest.

According to Football Insider, there is “a dressing room mutiny” with relationships between Lambert and some of the club’s senior players “fractured”.

The Blues are claimed to be considering sacking the 51-year-old and are looking at potential replacements.

However, owner Marcus Evans released a statement backing Lambert just over a month ago and is not believed to be looking at making an imminent change.

Lambert has been in charge at Portman Road since October 2018 and signed a new five-year contract on New Year’s Day 2020.

After failing to prevent relegation from the Championship in 2018/19, the Blues finished 11th in their first season in League One.

This season, having started well, they have drifted out of the play-off places, just as they did in 2019/20.

Following Saturday’s 3-2 home defeat to Swindon, the Blues are eighth in the table, having lost four of their last five matches at Portman Road.

Overall, Lambert has been in charge of 103 Town matches with the Blues winning 33, drawing 25 and losing 45.

Earlier today, the South West Branch of the Supporters Club joined independent supporters group Blue Action in calling for a managerial change.

Really not at all surprising...the team looked unmotivated against Swindon, I thought something looked up.

Some interesting comments - the club clearly needs some action and in my view and LAMBERT needs to go. We almost appear to be in a Groundhog Day situation with him like we were with MM, same old same old but expecting a different result. The criticism of CHAMBERS in my view is also not unfair. Being a stalwart of the club and committed to it does not win games, good performances do. We need a total cultural change and that includes a new Captain who enthuses, motivates and organises the team on the pitch but above all else, who actually leads by example. Swindon's first goal on Saturday was an absolute embarrassment, you could have driven a tank down the centre of our penalty area and the defence would have barely noticed it.

Hmmm - could be true, could be partly true, could easily be complete rubbish.

If the Manager loses the Dressing Room, it's always the end for him.

I want the best for my club and on Saturday came to the decision that unfortunately Mr Lambert is not the man for the club in the same way I feel Marcus Evans is not a footballing man and only a business behemoth but I think some supporters should desist from abusing the man with vitriol. I am frustrated as much as the next supporter ( I came up thru the Sir Bobby golden period ) but we are renown as a decent club with good principles so let's avoid hounding Paul Lambert out of the club. I remember 10 years ago Evans sacking Roy Keane due to a breakdown in his relationship with the club and probably things will go their natural way and he will leave but let's cut out the hate.....

Celtic fans say no way to Lambert and the football world seemingly writing him off after a succession of disasters. I don't dislike the man but he has come to the end of the road and must go now. MM ? If Evans was to even consider bringing him back even I would consider joining BA81's facebook protest !

Butcher has experience but a lack of success (Inverness CT apart), but him and Dyer could be our answer for now. I'd even put Nash in there: our U23 and U18/19 teams seem consistently easy on the eye and players from there are coming through. Who wouldn't support these guys through thick and thin?

Butcher and Dyer in asap and Paul Lambert must be relieved of his job. The discontent of the fans and players has to be addressed and is/has affected the on field performances. Yes we have many injuries but the team tactics and motivation of however is selected has been poor for a long, long time. If player power is creeping in who better to recognise it and deal with it in the appropriate way than Butcher and Dyer. Players work under the manager not the other way around, Discipline and respect needs to be restored and asap. I believe given right team selection and tactics and motivation, this motley crew could be reguvinated, especially if a little help is given and a few leave and one or 2 of the right sort arrive. But time is ticking for this season. Mr Evans sort this mess out, it is of your making, not the fans.

Judge actually played well Saturday to be fair to him
He's been poor many times in the last year but this week he played well
The rest are finished with as players at town for me and need to hang up their boots
It's time for a new set of ideas

It is Evans who wants sacking if that was at all possible. Fumbling from one poor season to another. Signing cheap players or loan players trying to fill a gap and hoping for the best. Secretly hoping to cash in on any player who is potentially worth something.
Players in the team one minute and out the next. Then there is the injury list.
An ever changing team and even stranger tactics. Abysmal defending and limited goal scoring chances. Possession play going no where and little entertainment. It all boils down to a club owner who is clearly out of his depth. We can not even give a cup competition a go anymore and we don,t have the quality for a promotion battle!!!. So, who is up next if Lambert goes ? All i know is that we should release players who are not good enough consistently and that a clear out is long over due.

I dont like hearing that the players are not good enough because i whole heartedly disagree with that.

I honestly we think e do have a capable squad, the issue is there is so much rot in the core of the club that everyone is just fed up with the situation, the passion is just not there from those running the club to playing, and the buck stops with Evans.

Since he has taken ownership we have been on a steady decline, save for a play off season, but even then issues were obvious, the reliance on a certain player for example.

We also never seem to have a plan B or the willingness to change plan A knowing that for the most part it is not working. Add to this that the amount of injuries we get is outrageous, players constantly injured during training and whilst playing, there really is something not right with that. Whether it be the training facilities, over training, under training or the staff conducting the sessions but this has been a problem with many managements not just this one. Didz is a prime example, injured constantly for us, leaves and plays the most football he has for a while.

Id say there is some basis for these rumours because we dont play to our strengths, that is in part to injuries but even when we are in a good place, all be it not very often, we dont change a system that doest work.

This club will never change and improve whilst Evans owns it and that is the sad truth of it all, how many mistakes do you have to make before you finally learn, but i have seen no evidence he has learned from any of them.

Evans may be backing Lambert publicly but privately he probably has had enough, can see Lambert gone by end of January with Dyer stepping up with a mentor he gets on with. I am not saying this is the cheaper option but a sensible move to get an Ipswich connection back in charge. Hopefully then the senior players of Chambers, Skuse and co can be sidelined and the youngsters brought through being managed properly. I can dream can't I.

The managers position has been the issue ages ago & ME giving him an extension is clueless. I'm not a fan of player power either - I just hope something good comes from this, hopefully we can salvage something from this season. Still bloody love this club even with all the issues

Alongside the poor management (team selection, tactics and formation etc) there does seem to be something not right in the dressing room since the end of McCarthy's tenure. I am not a fan of Chambers but maybe there are frictions between the academy players who have made it into the team and the older deadwood, a lack of spirit and comraderie. That said we need to start with the manager and get the right one for us to make the best of tge resources we have.

At the end of the day Evans has to reduce the wasted wages and build a hungry squad that can handle a league season and COMPETE in cup competitions. So he has to get rid of the players clinging on to this club and recruit some quality. Time to spend some money Mr Evans. Bring back Kieffer Moore and admit your mistake ...lol.
