Thomas Relishing Promotion Challenge
Tuesday, 19th Jan 2021 15:57

New loan signing Luke Thomas says he’ll relish the challenge of helping the Blues win promotion back to the Championship.

The 21-year-old has joined Town until the end of the season from Barnsley this afternoon and looks set to make his debut when the Blues host Peterborough United on Saturday.

"I'm over the moon to have sorted a deal, it's been going on for a couple of weeks but it's sorted now," he told iFollow Ipswich.

"I can't wait for Saturday and hopefully at some point I'll be able to play in front of the fans.

"The ultimate goal is to achieve promotion. This is a fantastic stadium and I'd love to help the club get promoted. It’s good to be part of a challenge. I will relish it.

"I trained for the first time this morning and it went really well. It was nice to meet the lads and I'm looking forward to my first matchday."

Reflecting on what he will bring to the Town team, he added: "At Barnsley we weren't really playing a formation that suited me.

"I'm an out and out winger. I like to get the ball out wide and then try to get at my man, and cause problems for the full-back that I'm up against.

"I'm a player that works hard for the team and I'll always try and get back to do my work defensively as well.

"This is something I'm looking forward to and I know the next two games are big ones."

There is literally more chance of me winning Miss World than this group of donkeys who get spanked by anyone half decent, lose at home to Swindon and think a guy from Barnsley reserves is a coup getting promotion

We are WAY too inconsistant for the top 2 and while i can see us finishing 5th or 6th and getting in the play offs, to win them you need to be able to beat 2 other teams who have finished in the top 6 and weve not been able to do that at all in the (almost) 2 years we've been in this league

Sorry everyone ... just some reality :(

Personally I think we have had our blip, and now my belief is that with a couple of new faces, and shipping a couple out, we will start to average 2 points a game from now until the end of the season
...and get promoted
Time for optimisim, but with the squad we have, irrespective of what the detractors say, it should be straightforward...even with an undertalented manager

Pencilpete. What a load of tosh. I wonder if the lincoln and hull fans made comments like urs after they both lost at home to shrewsbury. Who our fans moaned we were lucky to beat. Or when hull lost to swindon? Only hull and us, in the top 7 have kept clean sheets against burton. No, things are far from perfect but just posting negative tripe constantly, is ridiculous. Cheer up, ur alive, and who knows, they might surprise us all in the next 3 months.

Could be a cracking signing this lad.
Can't believe the first comment is that negative.
Disappointing to see.
Sadly the miserable gits who assume we are in the 70s need to get real.

What it comes to when we sign a Barnsley reserve and everyone is excited. How this club has fallen. Evans you muppet.

Pencilpete, maybe the hierarchy at PR agree with you, that's why they're making signings!

Only a muppet can carry on moaning when we are continuing to add players. Nothing wrong with taking a couple of Championship players on loan. This is 2021 not 1978. Welcome lads. Most Ipswich fans are decent, honest, supportive and want their team to win irrespective of major misgivings about manager and owner. Some on here relish failure but that's their choice I suppose.

@blues1 -really don't understand your post- what has it got to do with pencilpetes point which is that we haven't beaten anyone top 6 this season or last -FACT
Nowhere does he mention Shrewsbury or Burton, and if your getting excited about us being one of two teams keeping a clean sheet against the league's bottom team in Burton then I think we should just give up
To coin a PL phrase, it really really worries me that we cannot beat a decent team which is absolutely shocking (as Shrewsbury and Burton have managed it -see what I did there) and I think us what PP is trying to say

When we got Hawkins I criticised the signing and I got heavily downvoted for it because I saw through it, this signing, I feel differently because he was actually involved in Coventry's season and Coventry finished top, he's also a right-winger, granted he plays, there, we should be good enough to get at least top 6 now.

I fear he will be coached so poorly the ability to pass forward, drive forward and play a direct style will be sucked out of him into a sideways and backwards passer.

We all want Town to do well and cheer them on each game.... spend our wages on them....use up our emotion on them. Being overly optimistic is just deluding yourself. We already have a manger that believes we have been playing "really really good" from the start of the season....watch the last three seasons......we havent.

Ok, PencilPete maybe a tad on the pessimistic side in relation to loan signings....but a lot of that opinion( im guessing)is based on Town performances to this point, the tactics and how these players are going to change that(a lot to shoulder).

As Bert previously stated, try having a balanced view. The team need to really improve and actually beat some of these top ten teams if we are to have a chance of promotion(and for me that will only happen if Shambert leaves or stops being so damned pig headed and changes tactics).......or dont........and just keep saying "bellllieevvvveeee"......like the England fans do at every tournament......and where has that got them....

Bert, no, some on here won't accept failure and demand better for ITFC. Others, the opposite.

Laughing at some of these comments suggesting that people being negative is because they think we should be competing as we were 40-odd years ago.

Err, no, it's because with our squad, regardless of injuries, a competent management team would be doing much, much better. We are at our lowest ebb in a lifetime. If we were a better-run club then we wouldn't be a mid-table third-tier side.

We're not asking for Champions League football, we're just hoping that we can have a club which doesn't treat its supporters with contempt and a team which is well-coached, well-managed and which can compete, not pass the ball around the back and barely muster a meaningful shot on goal. Oh, and maybe some 21st-Century thinking when it comes to looking after our players so that they don't have to go off injured after 25 minutes?

And welcome to Ipswich Town, Luke Thomas. Try not to get injured.

Lambert out.

Let's give the lad a chance..... with injured players mostly back now we should be able to push on and challenge for automatic promotion. We need to play forward more and get forward to support Norwood who will chase everything and get goals. We can do this !

We aren't sitting in the bottom 3. We do have a chance of a play-off place.

Anything can happen once you are in the play-offs. Don't think we will get promoted but do think we have a small chance this season.

Bcareful. A fair assessment. Which considering we are in division 3 is absolutely shocking. Evans should hang his fckin head in shame

Can we all at least try to be POSITIVE!

aT LEAST THE CLUB ARE TRYING TO DO SOMETHING------THEY COULD DO A LOT MORE----BUT IF WE WIN OUR NEXT TWO HOME GAMES THIS TIME NEXT COULD LOOK A LOT DIFFERENT!!

A promising signing and I liked his self assessment of what Town fans can expect from him:

"I'm an out and out winger. I like to get the ball out wide and then try to get at my man, and cause problems for the full-back that I'm up against.

"I'm a player that works hard for the team and I'll always try and get back to do my work defensively as well.

"This is something I'm looking forward to and I know the next two games are big ones."

If it wasn't for the Plymouth league game being cancelled this weekend, there would have been a chance of us sitting in the bottom half this time next week!

We had +11 goal difference after the first 6 games, way more than anybody else, but we're now only +4 which means in the last 14 games our goal difference has been -7. That's not promotion worthy by any stretch.
