Blue Action Newspaper Banner Hits Out at Evans and Lambert
Saturday, 23rd Jan 2021 23:50

Town independent supporters group Blue Action has attached a newspaper-style poster to the Portman Road gates expressing their frustrations with the way the club is being run.

The banner, in the style of a newspaper, ‘The Fail’, takes aim at owner Marcus Evans for his running of the club over the last 13 years and reiterating their call for the exit of manager Paul Lambert.

Blue Action accuse Evans of remaining “hopelessly out of touch” after “13 years of neglect and decline”.

The poster also makes reference to TWTD’s Phil Ham, whose ban from club manager and player press conferences has now been ongoing for almost three months.

This isn’t the first time Blue Action have draped their thoughts on the Portman Road perimeter.

In December, they hung a banner at the ground urging Evans to take action: “Tick-tock Marcus, the future of the club is at stake”, having previously hung another on the gates at Playford Road which called for Lambert’s departure: “Lambo - Cheers for the beers but it’s time at the bar”.

They had planned a demonstration at the Swindon game a fortnight ago but postponed it due to the latest lockdown.

Early on in his time at Town, Lambert invited members of Blue Action along with other groups to the training ground to talk about improving the atmosphere at home matches.

Blue Action had been formed at the start of the 2018/19 season with that in mind via banners, stickers and the introduction of new songs and more recently have produced a fanzine.

Fans widely want a change of manager - 83.2 per cent in a TWTD poll - with the Blues’ form having dropped away alarmingly since winning five of their first six matches and topping the table, much as they did last season before dropping away and finishing 11th on points per game.

Today’s 1-0 loss to Peterborough was their fifth defeat at home in six games, while Accrington are the only side they have beaten while in the top 10 this season.

Relations between Lambert and the local media have also become strained with Ham banned from press conferences after the XI for the Lincoln City match in October was posted by a forum user on the moring of the game, while other members of the media were accused of stoking and feeding negativity after December’s 0-0 draw at Oxford.

We need change. And at the moment we cannot voice our concerns at the matches. So, good on you Blue Action. Our club is seriously broken and needs a new direction. Evans has crippled it over 13 years. What was once a well regarded football club has become a laughing stock. Up until now Evans has largely gotten away with it. But enough is enough, he needs to see that our patience has finally run out. We need change. Evans you muppet.

Blues, precisely, which is why all this "if he walks..." talk is scared hysteria. We could end up with a worse owner?!! He'd have to try pretty hard to pick a worse owner than himself... More uber extreme "better the devil you know" , could be worse could be Bury... 🙄

BA81, firstly an apology. My fat fingers accidentally up arrowed one of your post. Secondly, I'm sure there would be a queue all the way down PR and beyond should Evans walk away and hand over our club for next to nothing......none of whom would have deep enough pockets to service a loss of around £10m per year. Once more, lots of noise with no realistic answers offered

Well done Blue Action
Time to up the anti, bill posters around Ipswich would work well, Evans hates publicity if you made a public appeal to fund I and suspect many others would respond.

Evans has been a disaster from day 1,would we actually have been in a worse position without him? Is there actually a worse position?, the Club would have continued in some form, other backers would have been found, majority share ownership would still be the community and not one individual, who knows?.
The debt is not his, it`s a Marcus Evans Ltd debt, he can sell and go, the debt would disappear, would not cost him a penny personally, so Blue Action and all Town fans put the pressure on and bring this nightmare to an end.

Need to get back to reality a bit here. The bloke shouldn't be involved with a football club but he's keeping the club afloat financially at the moment, where a fair few will eventually go under. That's the main thing to consider at the moment. He and Lambert must know that there are angry fans out there and there will come a time very soon if results and performances continue as they are that enough will be enough. That's what happened with Hirst as it just became untenable.

Aas, best to put your point of view across without the playground name calling. Everyone has an opinion, that's all they are.your opinion yesterday I seem to recall was that a player with covid is an "injured" player? Could have provoked some reaction, but just an opinion.

A club with no assets on or off the pitch.

Slowly heading towards the 4th division.

Running costs of a rumoured £15 million a year.

Am I the only one thinking that Ipswich town football club could disappear?

I can't stand Evans but should he decide enough is enough, even if he wrote off his debts, where would it leave us?

And please understand, this is in no way an Evans support post.

Just a realisation.

# I posted this last night on the match report.

I genuinely believe there is a chance we could become a Bury.

I'm really frustrated by all things ITFC, but....
I agree, Lambert should go, originally I liked the way he tried to get us to play football when he first arrived, the engaging with the fans and community, but I also thought he had plenty of time to keep us up. Yet failed miserably!!!
The football has been boring and turgid crud, game after game.
I still don't understand why these 'professional' players can't kick a ball with both feet, or head the ball without a clue in what direction they want. From corners and free kicks we seem lucky if we see an ITFC player actually manage to connect let alone direct the ball..... But back when I played Saturday and Sunday football, with mates and some players (very good ones compared to most of us) who could fire in shots, head goals, and defend with fabulous skills..... Why the @#?%: can't these useless professionals manage it?
I have some simpathy with Evans, as frustrating as his manager choices have been, he has handed money over to a number of them, he covers the annual losses every year, he is keeping us alive when so many clubs are on the brink. Yes we'd like to see investment, and there is some of sorts. But we need to be real in the current world we all live in.
It does seem but for those bad breaks during the first few months of Paul Hursts reign, the penalties, sendings-off, things may have been very different..... But we will never know!
I am so frustrated watching ITFC, the number of times we break from our box, have most of the opposition out of position, but then turn the ball back towards our own goal, pass it about a bit (a lot!), waiting for the oppo to all get back in to a defensive formation, then we try to break them down with our lightweight and not particularly skilful team, and a seriously ineffective attack.
Why is Dobra not trusted more, to run at players. Why haven't we gone out and found (another loan would do it for me), a right back to do a proper job.
I've been watching these FA Cup games and we'd be stuffed by all of Chorley, Cheltenham, Marine etc.... They play with heart, desire, organisation, attacking intent and 100% commitment!!!!
And Blue Action, good on you to stir things up. I agree with most of your efforts. Lambert must go. Absolutely. Am waiting to read next of a Blue Action rep being arrested or fined, what with lockdown and only out for one bit of exercise a day, not sure how putting a banner up at a football ground constitutes essential movement but hey Ho, just feel that sort of publicity would become a negative!
(having typed all this up on my mobile phone I have no idea what it'll look like, but here goes)

What have we become since ME took over? There has to be a positive somewhere doesn't there? We thought it bad under Mick but it's getting worse minute by minute. The club has deteriorated from top to bottom. ME seems to appoint the wrong managers for the task. Looking presently at the situation it seems as though a curse has been thrown over the club. We are Ipswich and we can't beat a top club in league 1!! Our history does not deserve this. The stars on our shirts were won with hard work and guts to win them. PL needs to go because he certainly has not brought us anything of note and that is what is needed at this time and I don't want him part of our great history. He has become a loser not a winner. The way Chorley played this weekend totally out shon our effort against Peterborough which was there for the taking. That indicated to me the heart has gone out of the team. Marcus, never has there been a more important time to dig deeply into your pockets and take advice from other owners to secure the future of this club. It is slowly bleeding to death before your eyes. Do you want to be remembered with affection or disgrace? If it's affection do something with intent and change this direction fast or you will never be remembered with regard.

Jas0999. Of course its affordable to sack him. Gor 1, there are clauses in the contract, as there are in all long term contracts. And 2, Evan's may be many things, but hes not stupid. He wouldn't have given Lambert a contract that he couldnt afford to pay off if necessary. Dont think theres one town fan who doesnt think Lambert needs to go. And I actually believe that time could come should we lose on Tuesday night. At least, I hope. Trouble is, knowing Lamberts luck, we'll win and thatll save him for another week or 2. When it's would al ost certainly be too late for us

Excellent. However, nothing changes until Evans goes, and he won't be going anywhere for a long, long time as who would want to buy us?

Yes , ok , poster is fair comment, but who on earth is going to buy the club and its £90 million debt from Evans in its present state?
The squad is obviously 3rd division standard, has won about one cup game in last 10 years, and we are stuck with a manager whose best results are almost 10 years ago .
Will be hard for any new manager to make a difference with present Covid issues , our only chance of getting up any time soon is with a credible younger manager who can re motivate the squad , Eddie Howe for eg , would be great , but is Evans prepared to shell out , so often beed burned in the past !

The ‘what happens if Evans walks' argument is wearing very thin. It's what happens if he stays that worries me! He is slowly killing our once great club, it's as simple as that.

Well done Blue Action, time fans kicked back against what has happened over the last thirteen years and showed this charlatan his time is up!

Blues1, the very fact you are commenting on this means you have seen it and so will many other people via news websites and social media. Evans or Lambert won't have to drive past it to know it was there, even if it is taken down. The biggest question is how has Evans managed to build a debt of £100+M while descending into League 1? Other clubs in the Championship and below have managed their balance sheets and therefore debt to a fraction of ours. A businessman like Evans just won't want good money going after bad unless there is an upside. Of course, we don't know what that upside is, we'd need a team of international accountants to explain how it could be tolerated or even be part of a long term strategy. Do we really think Evans is throwing money into the running of the club, knowing it is impossible to get it back, without some positive influence on his businesses? And before all the part-time economists come on here to try to refute that remember this is a complex, international group of companies he runs. Do any of his other businesses, of which there are many, carrying this level of debt? Highly unlikely. This isn't running the corner shop, there are much bigger forces at play.

Well done Blue Action. As was raised on Radio Suffolk last night - please step up Radio Suffolk and EADT!! Whilst stadiums are closed we have no other voice which is another reason why Evans and Shambert can hide or spout total rubbish. At a time when we have little to no fun in our lives we have never needed success on the football pitch more. Would be happy to pay for Blue Action to display one of these posters at a bus shelter display board. How about it from others? Could we pay for one at every bus shelter around Ipswich?

This is really so so sad! I have supported the club for 63 years and each day, each week and each season my love for the club diminishes just a little more. I just don't know what else us fans can do to stop the slide into obscurity. I despair that this club that has given so much to the history of the English game is now just a little town in Suffolk. If those in power really cared we should not need the action group but thank god we have. I agree with everything they do but will those who need to listen actually listen. My heart is broken, the soul has been ripped out and I can't see an ending to our misery. We deserve so much better.

There is still some mistaken understanding that a few keyboard warriors on TWTD / Blue Action represent the majority view of real ITFC SUPPORTERS.

Cheshire blue - Blue Action cant speak for all supporters........but you are commenting on a website where currently 83.4% (of those that voted) feel there should a change of manager.....that is a majority. I agree this does not represent the view of supporters(on the website) regarding Evans......that would be an interesting poll
