Town Closing in On Parrott Loan Signing
Monday, 1st Feb 2021 10:54

TWTD understands Town are closing in on the loan signing of Tottenham striker Troy Parrott.

News of the Blues' interest in Parrott was first broken on the TWTD Forum earlier this morning.

Parrott, 18, has been on loan with Millwall since August and has made 10 starts and four sub appearances without scoring for the Lions, having suffered a knock early on in his spell, but is being recalled by his parent club with a view to joining the Blues today.

Dubliner Parrott started his career as a youth player with hometown club Belvedere before moving on to Spurs in July 2017.

Parrott has made one start and three sub appearances for Spurs - two games from the bench in the Premier League - in addition to appearances for the U21s in the EFL Trophy but is yet to net a senior goal.

The 6ft 1in tall frontman had made his debut for ex-Town boss Mick McCarthy’s Republic of Ireland prior to his first senior Spurs game in a friendly against ex-Blues defender Tommy Smith’s New Zealand in November 2019. He has since added another cap having previously played at U17, U19 and U21 levels.

The Blues have been keen to bring in a striker before tonight's 11pm deadline due to Oli Hawkins's knee injury, Kayden Jackson's suspension and James Norwood's troublesome hamstring.

Nottingham Forest's Will Swan had been linked but the 20-year-old was one of a number of players on Town's list of potential targets with Parrott the man the Blues have turned to in order to boost their striking ranks for the final months of the season.

My mate at Millwall says that he has been good, it just hasn't worked out for him. I've watched him at a number of youth games, and if he gets some form he will be devastating in League 1.

What about Simpson?

He's rated otherwise he wouldn't have earned 2 caps for the Republic of Ireland. Clearly things didn't work out for him at Millwall but that is in the league above us. Is he an out-and-out goal scorer or does he hold up the ball and bring others into the game?

It bewilders me some of the comments on here. How can this be seen as anything but positive?

Yes he hasnt scored for Millwall but Spurs rate him and they are no fools. He must have Prem level potential so we should be delighted. Spurs will have requirements in the deal and will have discussed how we will use him and develop him, so that will be interesting

Whether he can adapt to our system and do well with us remains to be seen, of course, but moving Jackson on and this lad in seems like a positive step.

Will he start in the first XI or will Norwood??

Could be a good digning if played correctly but I suspect Shambert will play him on the right wing.

10 starts and 4 sub appearances without scoring, should fit in nicely.

The reality is that none of our strikers seem to know where the goal is.
I have liked the look of Drinan but the only plus for his first goal on Saturday was he was in the right place when the ball hit him.

Therefore a young loanee with a point to prove has to be a plus at the moment.
If he is willing to come and Lambert gives him a chance and the lad gives it a go, what have we got to lose.

Jackson is hopeless, Norwood unreliable & Hawkins out so I am hoping this goes through.

18. What good is a kid who doesn't score goals going to do. We have kids of our own we could play. Pointless loan.

The most worrying thing here is if he is getting another loan in then he is staying and ME still thinks he can save the season... wtf deluded.

This is really a great piece of news and if we keep Jackson gives us some strength in depth.

We MUST now play 2 up front----get Nozza fit and play them together with Edwards and Thomas wide and lets not forget Harrop----we may still have a season.

Looking at Troy taking penalties in the scout clip! When did we last get a penalty? Genuine question. How few we get is, I'd say, as a result of how little pressure we pose in the opposition box.
I'd be very happy to see a striker of Troy's potential come to Town but as countless have said many other things have to change to make the move work. IMHO

Are we buying him on higher perches

This guy has potential but not in a team which is lacking confidence and under a manager who persists with one up front.

Things can only get better. Just not sure they will. I have respect for Paul Lambert but it's not meant to be

Have we swooped in for him yet?

Oldbri - I suspect first of all Lambert had to do a Google search to find out what a ‘striker' is!

Don't know why we are bothering with this guy as we have Tyreece Simpson and others from our youth team who should be given the chance to prove themselves. Waste of time imho.

Players are only given chances to prove themselves if they are outstanding in the u23s . Our youngsters constantly under perform when given there chance in the first team. We haven't produced a decent youngster since Downes and Wolfenden who both done well when out on loan.
