Training Suspended Due to Blue Action Protest Fire
Monday, 15th Feb 2021 21:51

The Blue Action protest at Playford Road this morning led to a small fire which caused training to be suspended for 10 minutes.

During the protest, which Blue Action filmed and posted on social media, signage on the perimeter was hit by a flare and began burning.

The flames were kicked out by a member of the coaching staff, however, the smoke led to training being temporarily halted for the safety of players and staff. Police are now investigating.

A club statement reads: “There was an incident at the training ground this morning where flares were thrown over a perimeter fence adjacent to the players.

“The flares caused signage on the fence to catch alight and in doing so put our staff at risk.

“The police were called and are investigating the matter. The supporters' group concerned have apologised for their actions.”

Maybe the club should apologise in turn for alienating and frustrating its loyal supporters to the point where they feel this is the only way to make their point.

90% of the fanbase, along with itfc legends such as Mick Mills, Russell Osman, Jim Magilton and Darren Bent can't all be wrong.... I wish Marcus Evans would wake the fcuk up and get his head out of his ar$e and put everyone out of their misery

Any of you who condoning throwing flares and causing a fire, albeit not a major one, need to take a long hard look at yourselves. Its irresponsible and endangered the players. We all want Lambert to go, and I'm sure wed all like to protest to try and achieve that aim. But that kind of action is unacceptable. Even apart from the fact they shouldnt even have been there in the 1st place, with us still in lockdown.

Well said blues1....not many sensible posts on this site nowadays.

Embarrassing behaviour and I don't call anyone involved in it ‘fans'..... merely bored twenty somethings (maybe early thirties now) or younger throwing their toys out of their prams because they are not getting their own way! Adult life and business doesn't work like that. You know and I know that Sir Bobby Robson would tell fans to support the team, players and club - today's pathetic action does absolutely nothing to help the players at all. With ‘fans' like that any of our younger talent would just want to get away from that toxic ‘fan' behaviour. Ironically BA will be the first to cry and moan when ME ‘sells' young talent when in truth it will be young players wanting to get away from the moaning minnies who let flares off at training ground and create aggro on social media (older players may ignore social media and the morons but younger players WILL trawl through social media and read all the rubbish affecting their mindset on and off the pitch.
and TWTD can't wait to get PL gone so they are back in their press conferences - rather obvious with their negative spin when they can

These are not Ipswich Town Fans, disappointed, frustrated but violent not Ipswich own fans. They are wanted far less than Lambert.

BA you need to keep your actions peaceful and within the law, otherwise you will lose "middle of the road" voters. A lot of these "middle of the road" voters strongly support a change in management at ITFC but you have to operate within the law to keep them onside.

Put in an appearance in person Mr Evans – as Delia would say ‘ let's be havin yer !'
This is NOT the ITFC we all expect or love ,but there are problems ,and resolution must involve mutual understandings and an acceptance that drastic change must be wrought : mostly in damaged relationships and behavioural displays which are testing the patience and loyalties of supporters far and wide ,and of all ages and background .
PLEASE ME step in ( no letters or statements) ,be a very visible presence and a voice of reason !

Children. Actions like that only appeal to the like minded. They've now apologised so what did that achieve apart from negative publicity for the Club, as if we didn't have enough of that already,
If this toxicity continues much longer it could be the tipping point for a lot of older fans, who have put decades into supporting the Club, and wondering if it's worth it anymore.

Blue Action - the clue is in the name - does stuff. They didn't endanger anybody and those who think they did can't even see what a crushingly overregulated place England has become with or without the pandemic. Some of the commentators on here sound like they'd be more comfortable supporting smug, affluent, shiny Norwich who perfectly embody the well-behaved middle-class all-seater virtues of the modern game. It remains to be seen what effect the BA78 protest will have but hats off to those with the guts and passion to demonstrate. They're even doing Evans a favor by alerting him to the probability that if he doesn't change things, next season's ticket sales will plummet and the merch in the shop will collect dust.

Sorry but although I would like to see a change in management, I don't want this kind of thing getting my support, moronic behaviour belongs at other clubs maybe but not at Ipswich Town!
What happened today doesn't take guts or passion SonofSonner it devalues the argument completely.

What an utter embarrassment. I'd rather keep Lambert than idiots like these, and that's saying something.

Don't make non essential trips and keep on top of your homework kids

I hope the idiots involved in this flare throwing never have anything to do with our club again.
They are a disgrace to us and a disgrace to themselves.

As for the post from SonofSonner , just go away. Comments like yours are absolutely pathetic. Grow up.

Whilst I do feel Lambert must go, there are ways and means and this isn't it. Up until now Blue Auction's protests have been well thought-out and given the circumstances, impactful. This one was impactful in all the wrong ways.

Although the club may be pushing the truth in suggesting players' well-being was endangered, the use of flares so close to where training was taken place was far from sensible.

In addition, whilst many of us would like our voices to be heard, breaking lockdown rules when there are far more important things going on (it doesn't make anyone less of a fan to acknowledge that!) is simply stupid. All they have now done is hand the moral high ground back to the club which let's be honest, really shouldn't be in any kind of position to thumb its nose at the fan base at this moment in time.

All of the above obviously also overlooks the fact it was pretty embarrassing. Four or five lads with flares and flags isn't going to make Lambert walk or Evans take action, it just looks lame.

But, moggasnotebook you are out of line and wide of the mark with your last paragraph. Phil and Gav have remained incredibly impartial given the circumstances. You may or may not have noticed, that unlike other local media they haven't done any opinion pieces, only balanced reporting of facts. In the context of an organisation unfairly (and with some of the club's tactics, boarder line illegally) trying to stifle your right to make a living, I am not sure you would show the restraint that Phil and Gav have, I know I wouldn't. If you believe that the reporting on here is negative then by all means don't read it and go elsewhere, otherwise please have a little more respect for those putting together decent content despite the unfairness of their position.

What an absolute disgrace, to see some posters condoning this action on here is obviously disappointing, although sadly not surprising.
It is even quite shameful to see some of the appalling language used on TWTD aimed at players, management and even some supporters,.
I was amazed when I commented on the article from L O'N my comment read (copied and pasted)

"Jumping to personally insult individuals is both unwanted and cowardly, it detracts from the relevance of this excellent site and I'm afraid being a youth is no excuse."

Even this comment was marked down by some posters, which I suppose, shows the level of their mentality.
Talk Sport did a programme on the disgrace of such on-line abuse and the affect it has on those targeted, I hope TWTD does get to grips with it, although I do understand how difficult this could be.

I do not agree with this type of protest. It is damaging to the club and will not (I'm pretty sure) make a difference.
I do think that Evans needs to be more visible and acknowledge that there is a great deal of unrest amongst the supporters. The whole situation is turning very toxic, which is sad and unhelpful. A clear head and strong leadership is desperately needed to turn things around. Unfortunately, I don't think PL is the man with these attributes. But, it is Evans who has the power to act.

A line needs to be drawn under this whole saga now. In more ways than one. We are becoming a laughingstock. More like the Carlisles and Lutons of this league than a classy club.
It's not worth it.

Certainly not condoning the throwing of flares, but Evans could put a stop to all this heat by doing the right thing and change what is happening in front of our eyes. I'm sure it might hurt his pocket (the fans didn't ask Lambert to be given a 5 year contract) but this once proud and famous club is hurting badly right now.
