Banished Duo Angered By Manager's Comments
Friday, 19th Feb 2021 17:33

Banished-to-the-U23s pair Jon Nolan and Kayden Jackson are understood to be furious with manager Paul Lambert’s comments about them at this morning’s press conference.

As previously reported, Jackson angered Lambert with his red card against Sunderland, while Nolan expressed his frustration to the manager after travelling to Crewe and not finding out until shortly before kick-off that he wasn’t in the 18.

Lambert hit back at today’s press conference saying, “I won’t have a player [Nolan], any player come to me and say they’d rather be at home with the wife and kids. If that’s your mentality you’re better doing that."

He added: “They’ve let the club down, let themselves down, let their team-mates down.”

According to the EADT, the duo are angry that their professionalism was called into question.

Lambert made clear his frustration with Jackson for his 10th-minute red card for a studs-up challenge immediately after the Sunderland match.

Nolan played 70 minutes of that game and wasn’t named in the team which was due to play at Crewe but travelled and expected to be among the subs, only to find out he was the man left out via the teamsheet an hour or so before kick-off with no direct communication from the management.

The 27-year-old Merseysider approached Lambert on the Monday about having made the trip to be left on the sidelines when he could otherwise have been at home with his wife and six-month-old, leading to him joining Jackson in be ostracised, leading to an angry exchange.

Nolan is yet to make a public comment but Jackson defended himself on Twitter on Wednesday after suggestions that his exile related to the club rebuffing approaches for him on deadline day.

As previously reported, Huddersfield made a late loan approach for the 26-year-old, despite Lambert claiming earlier today that there had been no interest in the pair.

Nolan was understood to be interesting Rotherham, Wigan and Peterborough in the final hours of the window.

Happy days at ITFC. Can't wait until we can all get back into Portman Road and have these overpaid people hear exactly what the fans think of how they are screwing up our club. Don't care who said what or who said it to who. Grow the feck up or get out.

Don't blame the players at all, awful man management and deflection from Lambert as per usual. Why take an experienced player to Crewe only to then let him know then wouldnt even be on the bench. With a baby at home Nolan got every right to be upset about not playing, while loanees are ahead of him. This must happen all the time, but rather than understand the players frustration he calls him out in public. For the Nolan haters, at least he's got a few goals in him, more than can be said of Lamberts favourites who play week in week out in midfield.

Both Jackson and Nolan had interest from Championship clubs but not good enough to get in a squad of 18? Still when you have 6 loanees, always is going to be players to miss out, total shambles, the sooner he goes the better.

I think after defeat tomorrow the situation will become untenable, Lambert will whatever it takes to deflect the crap away from himself, why has Evans not acted already ?

I'm with Nolan on this, whether I think he's a good player or not. Ridiculous man management and Lambert continues to p' off players one by one. And players have great mates in the squad don't forget, they're only human, so when they get p'd off their mates get p'd off too. Lambert has lost it completely and utterly. But Evans won't sack him because it would cost too much. Debacle.

It would be interesting to know in what context Nolan allegedly made the remark. I suspect it was probably along the lines of if I'm not in the 18 I might as well have been at home with the wife and kids. Lambert is implying that he said I'd rather be at home with the wife and kids. Quite a bit of difference there I'd say if that was the case.

I get it that tensions are high with the current state of affairs at the Club and Lambert is probably unhappy with both Jackson for his horrendous tackle and Nolan for his interpretation of dissent but everyone needs to be focussed on getting us back to winning ways. The trouble is the problems at the Club have been going on for far too long now.

Tractorshark. What are u on about? Nolan has been one of our best players this season. And frankly,in the current climate, I believe to have travelled, and then only found out hes not in the squad by looking at the team sheet, with no communication from the manager, is poor. And I can see watched ratherxhave been at home with his wife and kids rather than have had to travel unnecessarily.

Broganonthewing. Think you've miscalculated there. Peterborough isnt a 500 mile round trip, and the team travelled up on the day. So no overnight stay. Ur right about Lambert cutting off his nose to spite his face tho.

I have said this in another post, no matter what business you are in it is very poor form to wash your linen in public. You would ever see any of the great managers doing this and starting a spat in the press, keep it all in house and sort it by being a decent human being.
Remember no matter how much they are paid, footballers are only human, it is apparent that Lambert is a poor man manager and very authoritarian.

I'm not pro PL he should achieve more .. but this could be a sign of what's wrong deeper within the club .. PL is right on both counts with these half hearted under achievers .. Nolan expects to get paid for sitting in his arse ? .. Jackson's ‘tackle' was atrocious .. both bang average at best

Lets be perfectly honest here. These two players are not up to Legaue 1 standard, but unfortunately PL inherited them, so he's a little stuffed really. can you imagine Nolan saying to Roy Keane, McCarthy or Sir Bobby, I could of stayed at home. Bless their little hearts.

If Lambert's intention was to create difficulties within the squad with a divide and rule approach he has achieved that aim. If Lambert wants to change the culture of the club this is not the way to do it.

Comments made about Jackson and Nolan are warranted.
Jackson sending off was reckless and cost us the game and if Nolan had performed to the required standard he would have made the squad at least and let's face it you don't have to be that good to get in our squad.

So...in 45 years old of following town this is the most embarrassing it's ever been. Obviously we (at our age) enjoyed the Robson era, but then suffered the Ferguson, Duncan times...
Nolan, you are a professional footballer. If you're asked to travel but then left out the squad, so be it. Don't throw toys out the pram. But this is clearly deeper rooted, it has to be....
Lambert, you have lost the dressing room, the supporters and hopefully on Tuesday your job.

I question what our director of football has to say on this matter. Why is he not mediating and stepping in to stop all this poor behaviour and unwanted poor press brought on the club.
Players need to be sat down with the club captain manager and everyone told what is expected going forwards and any matters like this will be dealt with without the whole world knowing. Dirty laundry should not be aired in public
Pull together and earn your money and deliver the performances required by this club on and off the pitch. What worries me is why Lee o Niell has not stepped in yet as this is not a good model to demonstrate to all our youngsters at the club

Yet another example of poor management by Lambert. Jackson did let everybody down with his red card but he has acknowledged this and made a public apology. It would have been appropriate to fine him but making him train with the under 23's and refusing to include him for selection is plain daft. I don't think Nolan is at fault at all. He is a senior player and as he was involved in the previous match he is entitled to expect Lambert to explain why he was left out of the 18 for the next match.

What a sad pr*ck Lambert has turned out to be. Nolan has a 6 month old baby at home, and Lambert drags him to Crewe to not even be part of the 18. Then gets upset at Nolan for being upset at him? The faster we can get Lambert out the better. Even if we just have Dyer and Butcher in charge to see out the season.

I'm sorry but these players are paid to represent our team and as much as I am not a fan of Lamberts formations and denial of poor performances. He is the boss and if he asks them to travel to the other side of the country then that's is what they should do. I am sure you would not have sympathy for a lorry driver with a 6 month old child having to work away from home.

If only Shambert had played at the very highest level, in some of the most high profile teams in Europe...........
