Town Among Clubs Linked With St Johnstone Striker
Tuesday, 23rd Mar 2021 09:43

Town are reported to be one of a number of League One clubs eyeing St Johnstone frontman Guy Melamed.

According to Football Insider, the Blues, Portsmouth and Sunderland are keeping tabs on the 28-year-old, who has scored five and assisted three further goals in 10 starts and five sub appearances since joining the Scottish Premiership side in October from Maccabi Netanya in Israel.

Born in Ra'anana, Israel, Melamed, who is out of contract in the summer, had played all his career in his home country prior to his move to Scotland featuring for Hapoel Kfar Saba, Maccabi Petah Tikva, Maccabi Herzliya and Hapoel Be'er Sheva - with whom the 5ft 8in tall striker won the Israeli Premier League in 2017/18 - prior to his two years with Maccabi Netanya.

Town manager Paul Cook will be looking at potential summer recruits with it appearing likely there will be an exodus from Portman Road during the close season with 25 players now out of contract following Barry Cotter’s departure yesterday.

Well, either Town will sign him & he'll score 20 goals next season as we sweep to the 3rd division title or we'll never hear of this one again. You decide!

I remember seeing the Norwood video before we signed him, it's not all about the individual player it's about what's created around him and the standard of football he was playing. Not getting excited as we still have this season to see out yet, some think it's already over, I disagree.

Looks good, and we need fresh ideas up front, but the spine of our side needs a refresh: from GK, through centre half, midfield and striker. I'd say a hardworking, midfield goalscorer is more valuable to us than a striker right now.

Looking at the video why would he come here? He looks brilliant and would fit into any premiership set up. Oh well, you can only dream.

Melamed is class, any Town fan who has watched Scottish Premiership football this season will have been thinking to themselves 'Oh, I wish we had a scouting network that could have found this Guy...'

I watch 'A View from the Terraces' every Friday night on BBC Scotland and he has had some rave reviews on there. Video clips suggest a worthwhile investment.

Thats the problem someone used the word investment, something ME doesn't seem to do any more so chances of this happening is quite remote. Great if it does as he used both feet and a nightmare for defenders something we don't have at the minute.

Sunderland will probably go up, in which case he's got Championship football. Even if they don't, they will no doubt outbid us. But at least we are looking around.

Too good for us in L1. Notwithstanding the opposition didn't look that good he is quick and clinical.

Evans won't spend .

He looks far too good for us, gets into good positions, can score from 30 yards, has poise on the ball, can spot a pass....Would not fit in !! - Suspect the rumor will be nothing more than that sadly.

With the injury list we have he's got the right name.

Let all 25 OOC players go, they've had their chances.

Could be a good signing shouldn't cost much and wages shouldn't be a problem clearly a good goal scorer and great through balls but we do need creativity from midfield in the ilk of magilton otherwise we could have Aguero playing up front but without the service it won't mean anything. We need a good back bone a decent keeper, commanding captain type centre half in the I'll of de vos or Mowbray and a striker like this guy

Strikers are only as good as the service they get provided. Norwood is very capable of scoring 20+ goals a season if our midfield create decent chances for him. Most people are quick to moan or slate him for not banging goals in when we have a static midfield and a lone striker all alone expected to work wonders and do everything on his own. The reason he scored for fun at Tranmere is because their midfield created a lot of chances for him to score.

Looks as sharp as a razor inside and outside of the box. Just look at the crosses and passes he gets playing him in though. Never in a million years can our midfield do that. We need a complete new midfield who can win the ball back, break up play, pass, create and link up play. Ours just strut around, can't play with pace and are lightweight. Love to sign this striker but can't see someone with that quality wanting to join our club.

Sign him up, he looks decent. Alot better than Jackson. He'll cost a fee though, so thats rules Town out. Not to worry, I'm sure there'll be a few released League 2 players available in the summer to rummage through.

Nice little watch that video footage.. I remember some of the past gone days when we used to watch strikers running, scoring and creating opportunities for fellow strikers.

Can't remember the last time I watched a 'striker' performance for us. Havent seen a single game this season where a striker has done a job...!

My mistake, He will be free in the summer, gives Town a chance then.

I hear a lot of the Portsmouth team are out of contract, a couple of their midfielders looked worth a look
