Town Among Clubs Linked With St Johnstone Striker
Tuesday, 23rd Mar 2021 09:43

Town are reported to be one of a number of League One clubs eyeing St Johnstone frontman Guy Melamed.

According to Football Insider, the Blues, Portsmouth and Sunderland are keeping tabs on the 28-year-old, who has scored five and assisted three further goals in 10 starts and five sub appearances since joining the Scottish Premiership side in October from Maccabi Netanya in Israel.

Born in Ra'anana, Israel, Melamed, who is out of contract in the summer, had played all his career in his home country prior to his move to Scotland featuring for Hapoel Kfar Saba, Maccabi Petah Tikva, Maccabi Herzliya and Hapoel Be'er Sheva - with whom the 5ft 8in tall striker won the Israeli Premier League in 2017/18 - prior to his two years with Maccabi Netanya.

Town manager Paul Cook will be looking at potential summer recruits with it appearing likely there will be an exodus from Portman Road during the close season with 25 players now out of contract following Barry Cotter’s departure yesterday.

Sounds like he's got an agent,so he'll want wages that counts us out or will we have money now we're getting shot of all these silly signings

looks good.Trouble is we have lost the '' Big Club'' image now, that gave us a chance when trying to sign decent players, we are now just an average Lge 1 club, with an owner who dosnt invest and only pretends to be interested in the football when dung enters the spreader. If another club is interested that has any real ambition we will just be bystanders and he will go elswhere. This is the way its been going with Evans,Look back at some of the good players weve had , all moved on and never replaced in terms of quality. We always sell up and buy down .

Would be more interested if we looked at midfielders that can create something. instead of just passing sideways. Alright Andre?

I think the most important signings we need are a striker and a winger.

Looks decent on the showreel, but so did Adrian Paz and Jay Emanuel Thomas!

Certainly an interesting period coming up, thats for sure.

I would say our priorities are to identify a manageable sized squad of players and get rid of most of the rest.
Hopefully those savings will fund some quality - I'd like to see an experienced leader to go in midfield or central defence and another striker.
Having watched some of the videos of Guy Melamed playing for St Johnstone he looks good.

And who knows perhaps Tottenham would loan us Parrott for another season!

Irrespective of the standard of football Guy has been playing, from the video footage he clearly demonstrates; ability, touch, positioning, poacher instinct and set piece ability. I think that he would be a great addition to our team. I just hope that it happens

Amazing how I got 10 mark downs
Get real
He is 28 ... probably 29 if by some strange sadistic reason he would come here
All career in israel intil he was snapped up by the mighty St Jonstone....please

I like MickeyMills summary of the skills shown on the video. I would also add penalty taking to the list. He gives the keeper no chance unlike someone we have seen trying to be too clever and literally nudge the ball past the keeper with it being saved.
Melamed paired with Norwood would be a combination that would be too good for League 1 defenses and be competitive in the Championship when we get back there. Add to that a central midfielder in the Magilton mould, to pair with Downes and a dominant cb and we should be on an upward path .... coyb
